How long for the new prez's honeymoon?
Any guesses on when the new prez's followers will float back down to earth?

I thought Ms. Lewinski's drycleaners took care of most of Clinton's mess...

...Obama is already shutting down Guantanamo Bay...
Where did you see this? The only thing I've seen reported is stopping the trials and closing down the detention camp, not the entire base.

You are correct, as usual, Santo. :)
edit: And good for him for doing it.

I mean, really, who does that?
Who does that? Besides any pretentious little climber who ends up in the Oval Office with one of the most powerful men on earth? I am suprized that she didn't put more things in her scrap-book.....

HAHA...sorry that WAS funny! And closing down the jail, camp, whatever you want to call it, shuts down many jobs on the base....sorry I meant to say the camp not the whole base....but when they shut that down....what else will they shut down?

Let me get this straight: You're considering job losses as a greater evil than than what has occurred in that detention camp?
And I would expect President Obama to shut down anything in his legal power that pushes, exploits, or violates human rights and the law.
on edit: Besides, it being a military compound, the people working there are US Military. They'll just be transferred to a different duty/post.
Let me get this straight: You're considering job losses as a greater evil than than what has occurred in that detention camp?
When it comes to my family uhm....YEAH......if my husband loses his job, and we are out on the streets using YOUR taxes to pay for our food, shelter, school.. etc....I guess you wouldn't mind then huh?

Excuse me, but since your husband is employed by the military, you are already paying for your food, shelter, clothing using my taxes.
*boggles*
Guantanamo turned the United States into a nation that does practice torture, and have commited war crimes. And you're worried about the job losses from cleaning up that particular mess?
Well, he could always get a new job as guard for the people who will be convicted of war crimes for having participated in the unlawful use of torture on military prisoners. Lynette England and the others from Abu Ghraib were thrown under the bus by the Pentagon officials and CIA interrogation specialists who ordered them verbally to commit the abuses - the convictions should have been a lot higher up the chain of command, but it's probably going to be the enlisteds taking the fall for the officers yet again.

If your husband has a job at Gitmo, then he's not losing it by the shutdown of the detention center. He would get reassigned - it's a military base. And for the record, no, I wouldn't mind supporting the family of military personnel who are displaced because of the shut down of places like Gitmo - actually, as pointed out previously, I already do.
Do you mind that your family's food and shelter is tied to the abuse and civil rights violations of other human beings?

UHM I NEVER said he was employed by the military.....I said he works ON military bases....we get NO benifits WHAT-SO-EVER from the gov.....he is an electrical supervisor and 100% civilian, and the ONLY jobs his company gets is ON military bases, that's what his company does....if things shut down, that base gets less grants...less grants ...less buildings to build...less buildings to build...NO JOB....hope I made it clearer.... I'm not trying to advocate Guantanamo Bay's torture chamber, I would hope no one would, but when it comes to my family, I have to start worrying...I was just giving an example....of closing down that...cutting the military in half....etc....the fact is, usually when a dem is in office, the military gets tight with money, cut off, when Clinton was in office, his company almost went under...thus effecting those who work on the base, civilian or military.....the construction side did, but the electrical side stayed affloat....barely...we had to do what we had to do to stay alive with the company and that meant move around state to state...even getting small jobs off of the base ....which the pay scale goes wayyy down....I don't want to bore you, all I'm saying is, he made promises I hope he keeps....but it scares me to see the past repeat itself.....it's hard to understand unless it's your livleyhood it effectc...
Anyways...it's been fun giving and speaking our opinions and reading all of your comments...but I'm done with this topic, I said my opinion, and some facts...it's funny how ya'll pick on the military comment but nothing about how he had the lack of experience, I guess everyone agreed on that....I'm off to play with my youngins....Again....God Bless....

YOU need to go back and read my original post because your comment made NO sense what so ever....funny though...thanks for the chuckle...

Lack of response does not imply agreement.
I'm sorry for your situation, I really am. But I simply cannot see how the continuation of an abhorrent practice can be justified by economics. That detention facility needs to be shut down.
With the infrastructure projects Pres. Obama has planned, and if they pan out and are approved, I truly hope your husband's company has some better prospects for increased business in the future.
Best of luck to you.

I did read your post - it indicated that you were more concerned about jobs than human rights violations. However, I do understand your concerns.

Look~ You can't possibly think that that's what I meant.....but hey that's the bad thing about messages....you can't see past the letters....I never indicated that, that's just what you wanted to pick out of it.....NOW, I'm done with this subject....it's getting boring....but thanks for your concerns....I appriciate it....God Bless

Doesn't anybody think they'll just practice interrogation or torture (whatever you want to call it), somewhere else. I mean really, aren't they just going to detain these guys anyway. Is it just the name Guantanomo that gets everyone so excited? I honestly don't understand why the entire place needs to be shut down.

This was your post #90 that led everyone to believe you put economics first over abhorrent practices. Please explain to me why you think we misunderstood what you said.
And I will repeat myself a little more clearly. If your husband's employment is a result of government contracts, then you are already buying your food, clothing and shelter with taxpayer dollars.
