How long did it take you to get pregnant?
My husband and I have been trying for 4 months with no luck.
I have been doing BBT, tracking fluids, using ovulation prediction sticks, the works. However, I did just go off of Yasmin in early January after being on it for 6 months. Anyway, I am 28 (a month and a half shy of 29), have a normal BMI, eat healthy, and exercise. I am on Metformin ER for PCOS, but have not had fibroids and I do ovulate. My husband is 33.
How old were you, when you tried to get pregnant? How long did it take?
Did anything specific help? Does anybody have experience with PCOS and Metformin?
Any advice is appreciated.
four months isn't long. i'm sure you'll catch soon!
I guess it does take time, and 4 months isn't really all that long. Just relax and enjoy the time you have together as a couple. Baby will happen when s/he's good and ready and not a moment before.
Good luck!
Ahahaha...I always wondered that myself. What is it they are doing that I am doing wrong? It is hard to see it when you and most people you know have been trying for months (some for years!).
A friend once told me - "stop trying, drink a bottle of tequila, and have random crazy sex. The next day, you will see a pink plus sign!" ;-P
But anyway...
Thanks!
My sister tried for nearly a year before she got pregnant- no experience with metformin, sorry. She is a pharmacist, though, and said that it should not affect getting pregnant, but you should not use it while you are pregnant. So, maybe talk to your doctor about this.
Thanks! We've been married for 3 years and together for almost 8. We are ready...I guess baby just isn't! ;-)
I also have PCOS. I was able to conceive without Metformin for my 1st child. I think because my weight was somewhat lower at the time and my PCOS in better control because of it. With my second after trying for about a year again, I started taking Metformin. It worked for me after about 6 months. My doctor had also recommended Clomid if the Metformin didn't work after a period of time. I never had to take this though. Good luck to you!! I know it's hard to wait, but I wouldn't get discouraged yet. I found having good communication with my doctor helped a lot during this time.
I forgot to mention one thing in my last post. I have found the website called soulcysters.net very helpful with PCOS info. There are a lot of women with PCOS who are trying to conceive on these message boards.
According to statistics, it takes about 18 months, on average, for couples to conceive. That's for the general population. Because some people get pregnant at their first try, others have to struggle 3 years... Conception has become a little harder because of the general use of contraceptives. It appears there are more women having to wait a bit longer for conception after having stopped the pill, because their system first needs to get back to "normal" mode.
But again, it's just statistics. Anyhow, I would recommend you stop worrying. I have known so many women that got pregnant after they adopted a child - after years of trying in vain - that I am sure stress and too much focus on the pregnancy tests/lab results/consultations/hormonal treatments play a large role in delayed pregnancies...
Just enjoy life and your husband. Get your life and mind ready for that coming child and I am sure it will come when everything looks cosy!
I was 20 when I got pregnant. What it took was one wild night, a concert, and a few beers. :)
My DP and I were kinda not worrying about getting pregnant. We left that up to God and the rest of the Universe to decide.
Now I chart to avoid and it really does not feel right to get pregnant.

If you really want a pregnacy and maybe even multiples try this....
I have PCOS and did not believe in all the drugs and things out there to help, but was raised around a lot of homeopathics and such. I did my research and found other women who have used the same techniques to get pregnant and it worked. I got TWINS> only tried twice. IN a week I was pregnant! I was taking VITEX..Chastre Tree Berry supplements three times a day, and raspberry leaf to tone my uterus and balance hormones. I have suggested this to other couples trying and they have had success too. IT really works. It has also helped me with my PCOS, now that I am not trying of course, and since my boys were born two years ago, I have not had any huge painful cysts! I truely believe this is what worked for me. Give it a try for a month or so. And track your ovulation on Pregnacy.com they have a nifty calendar that will help you determin your best time. IT worked for me, maybe it could work for you too. Good luck!
The metformin is used in PCOS to help more with insulin sensitivity and weight loss -- not so much with fertility. It certainly does not help the ovarian cysts. You should consider stopping it (talk to your doctor) if you are actively trying to get pregnant. Since your ovaries are cystic, it is more difficult for you to produce an ovum for fertilization. That is where drugs such as clomiphene can be helpful -- by increasing egg production/ encouraging ovulation.
Even though I'm a pharmacy student, I also appreciate more 'natural' approaches. Raspberry leaf can be good as a female tonic, before and during pregnancy. I don't know much about vitex (chaste tree berry) as the other poster. From what I just read on a high quality resource -- it is most helpful in women with progesterone deficiency.
Best of luck to you and your spouse. From everything I've heard, the less you worry, the easier it is to conceive.
never use birth control but when i did become pregnant the first time it was a tubal pregnancy. 6 months later i had another tubal pregnancy. 3 months after that i went back to have the tube removed they said i had pcos. i had 16 cyst on each ovary. they drilled holes in my ovaries to airate them and drain the cyst. they put me on low dose of clomid and 3 months later i was pregnant again. my daughter who is now 10. went back on clomid almost imediately nothing happened. they up the dose. still nothing... 6 nonths later, without drugs or "trying" i was pregnant.. but it was a belighted ovam, i miscarried. sold all my baby stuff considered myself blessed with my daughter. moved to VA and 3 weeks later i was pregnant.. again.. my son who is now 6. withall that said. i truely feel no doctor, meds or procedure can determine if you will get pregnant.. God above is charge of that. remain faithful and he will bless you.
It took my BF and I one year and 9 months of no protections plus charting to conceive. He has low testosterone and I have irregular cycles. But it actually happened, we are really excited we thought at one point we would have to invest a bunch of money into infertility treatment.
Good luck, when you least expect it it will happen.
Hi, I too have PCOS and was told at age 13 i would never have children without help, and to go back to my clinic after 2 years of trying for assistance. So my husband and I started trying. i had been told that i needed to loose weight as this would also help, to the doctors and our suprise we concieved within 6 months, at this time I was having NO periods at all so it was completly random luck. We then went on to have another child 4 years later, this time it took a bit longer (9 months) and I was recommended clomid by my doctor but as luck would have it I found out I was pregnant the day i went to pick it up.
It just shows you, not all doctors are right, I found the Fertility.friend website helpful, Keep trying, Good luck x
i was 20 and my husband and i started "trying" the month after we got married it took us 6 months! but my co-worker has been trying for 3 years so i guess it just depends. missionary is the best method according to my co-workers dr.
about 1/2 hour... :-) my sister never could get pregnant...why we are so differnent. I always hurt for her. She adopted 2 wonderful boys though and we are thrilled!
With my 1st it took me almost 2.5 years. I also have PCOS and took metphormin to control insulin levels and help to lose weight. I also took prometrium for a year to start my periods up, because I hadn't had one for a year after I went off the pill. When I started the metformin I lost weight and started having periods on my own, I lost about 45 pounds in 3-4 months on the South Beach Diet and was pregnant. I had basically given up on getting pregnant and concentrated on losing the weight. Now I am pregnant with my second and it only took about 5 months and 12 pounds less to get pregnant (w/o metformin). There is a website PCOS worldwide support that may interest you also (www.pcosworldwidesupport.com).
Me and my husband tried for 3 months for our second and then life got crazy with illness in the family and we decided to stop trying and that's when we got pregnant. My daughter was conceived the first time we tried.
