How long did it take you to get pregnant after you started trying?

Quote  |  Reply

Just curious.....

Not trying anytime soon!  Kennedy is only 2 months and I now have a 10 year IUD I plan on removing when she is potty trained.  I want to get pregnant within 6 months after removing it and am curious about how long it took others once they started trying.  She was a pure accident, I was on birth control but got on antibiotics and oopps!

Let me know....

I've not had an IUD but I've been on BCPs for over 10 years. My first pregnancy was not planned and happened because of my poor pill-taking. My most recent pregnancy was planned and happened on our first try. I stopped taking the pill on January 6th, 2008 and my son was born on October 10th, 2008. We figured it would take several months.

I would imagine it would also depend on if you have a hormonal IUD (Mirena) or non-hormonal (Paragard). If I remember correctly, Mirena is only supposed to be used for 5 years so I'm assuming you have Paragard. If that's the case, it shouldn't effect your ability to get pregnant like a hormonal IUD might.

There have been some previous topics about this, too. You can check them out:

I had the paraguard IUD for 3 years before TTC.  I got pregnant 3 months after having it removed so it was pretty quick.  It was a nonhormonal IUD so if you are using the one with hormones it may be different.  I loved the IUD and think it is a great choice for birth control.

Trying?  People try?

Well with my first I wasn't trying, so she doesn't count.

But for the second, I got off birth control pills and tried not to for about 2-3 months.  I think the first time we weren't being safe I got preggo with my son.

I had the Mirena IUD prior to both my pregnancies.  After removing it in May 2007, I was pregnant by July 2007.  This time around, I removed it April 15th, 2009 and was pregnant by the middle of May!  Lucky, perhaps...maybe just super fertile, but my point is that I don't think you necessarily have to worry about your fertility taking longer to return after a hormone-based IUD.

from the time I went off the pill after my first to getting pregnant took 18 months!!!!

And back then I never thought it was an issue b/c I already was pregnant before

Both times it was super quick. The first time maybe 2 months, the second time, maybe like 2 weeks?

I was on the pill. Didn't miss any days, took it at the same time every day, wasn't on antibiotics... just one of those things.

Yeah I am on Paraguard because I hate hormones!  Thank you so much for the replies, I love thinking about having a big family!  If I could I would have 5 but sadly can only afford 2.

It took my husband and I about 5 years of not being on birth controll. We didnt monitor cycles just didn't use bc. But I had surgery on my cervix and he had mumps, so we had issues.

my first pregnancy was a surprise and unplanned and didn't work out.

when we tried again, I was pregnant on the first try.  I watched my cycles for a couple of months.  I didn't keep track of temperatures or anything, but I did know when I was ovulating.

Good luck to you!

Hi, My doctor told me anywhere from 1-2 years is average for people to take to get pregnant, but I got pregnant within 8 months of starting to try.
