are there any?
i'm mostly afraid of the habitual part... how i'll eat like this forever.....
and..... is it true that the stomach can be stretched out permanently?i think it is. it just keeps getting bigger and bigger and it can hold more food and i'll eat so much more..
please help me control my eating.... i just can't seem to stop. like this morning, a breakfast was 1300 calories just b/c i couldn't stop....
and are there other side affects? long/ short term?
Hello there, well usually the consequence of binge eating is that you put on weight. Being overweight significantyl increases risk of diabetes, cardiovascualr diseases and many other things. I think I also read that the stomach expands. Reduced portion sizes make it smaller again, to an extend.
I see you are new ! Welcome to CC :-) Your are here, this is a great. CC and the people on here are helpful in becoming or carrying on to be healthy & happy.
about the streching...i think u can strech it alot, but u can also de-strech (?) it with a proper diet. alot of people say that after they began dieting they got used to eating less and found that they were satisfied with less.
besides gaining weight, the long term effects would also vary depending on what you binge on. it might affect your cholesterol levels, or blood pressure, etc. but if you binge on super healthy stuff (i bet thats not the case, but possible) then you have less chance of having negative health effects besides weight gain.
I can talk from personal experience...usually depending on how long you've been binging on, the side effects vary. The first few times, I only noticed a physical change in my body from the excess weight. Over time with my continued habit, I developed severe constipation, heartburn, and lack of energy. This is aside from all the emotional problems that come with binging (ie. self hatred, disappointment, fear, guilt). However, it is my personal opinion that most of the phsycial side effects will go away after the binging stops. If you are still worried, you should see a doctor and maybe get your blood work done (it might be effecting your thyroid, etc).
On a side note, I understand your pain; it does become a habit where certain places you feel wired in your brain to overeat. But it doesn't have to be like this forever; start looking at the emotions behind your binging. Journal, call people who can understand your problem, read, make a plan for eating in advance so you are aware of what portion sizes and what foods you can have, etc, etc. My binge episodes have drastically reduced by doing these types of things but sometimes it's still really hard. At those times, I just sit with the urge, and wait, minute by minute, for it to pass.
Good luck, I believe you will be just fine.
My doctor says it affects your liver, causes acid reflux, parasite infections, and chronic constipation - all of which I have, and now realize that not only has eating this way ruined my life and happiness, now also my health :(
Please stop as soon as you can. I'm on all kinds of meds and programs to try to fix all these issues. it's also screwed up my hormones, slowed my thyroid, and caused adrenal fatigue, which in turn causes a host of other things. Sorry to say it, I wish I knew sooner - maye woulda helped me stop easier?
Hi Jambee!
I found this link to the mayo clinic website and I think it gives a good concise overview of your question
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/binge-eating -disorder/DS00608/DSECTION=complications
It also has other links in there to other questions about binging.

hey, thanks for the reply you guys....
i tried chewing gum (sugar free), but it doesnt help that much.... i actually think it cramps up my stomach worse. could it be the asparteme?
i'm just scared ..... about my stretching stomach part. is your sto mach like rubber band? keep stretching it, wotn be as elastic anymore?
I don't have a scientific answer for that one but I can say from seeing a real one a stomach does act like a rubberband. However, if you can slowly and successfully get your eating habits under control in a healthy way your stomach will be able to cope. Since I am losing weight I had to "shrink" my stomach to get used to less food intake. Now, I can't eat the same way I used to because I get fuller faster. But this doesn't mean it happened over night either. It took a good few months to get my stomach to settle. It is amazing how big the stomach can get but it does go back to its regular size once the food has passed.
Just start slowly and develop a healthy successful eating habit. If you need any help at all please let me know. I'll be happy to offer what I can give.
