How long did you work up until you had your baby?

Quote  |  Reply
I have about 6 weeks left to go.  Wanted to poll people to find out how long they worked up until their Maternity leave.  I only get 12 weeks; so obviously will try to work as much as I can.  The problem is; is that I'm just so tired!!  I can't see myself making the 1 hr 15 min commute twice a day for the next six weeks.

Your comments are appreciated.

I personally made the mistake stopping work too early with my first.  He was due May 15th and April 16th the doctors told me I was 2 centimeters dilated.  I stopped working and he came May 29, induction and then a c.

However I believe if you are tired of aorking you should stop and get rested up for the new baby.

CONGRATULATIONS!

i was really lucky. My DH let me quit when i was 2 months. I was a cashier and i knew i wouldnt be able to handle 8 hours standing... and then smell of fried chicken was making me sooo sick.. i had to run off the registar to throw up! lol. Im not sure they ever believed i was preggo tho.. i have very wide hips and when i would come in shopping (this was at 7 mos) looked a me and said... i guess you could be pregnant lol!

anyways.. if you only get 12 weeks (do you mean paid or unpaid btw?) id see if you could work part time or do more telecommuting. Best of luck!

I lived and worked in NYC when I had my baby, 17 years ago! I was actually in labor at work. I took a cab home that day! But I guess it depends on how far out on the Island you are. Don't want to break the bank to have a cab ride home.

Don't overtire yourself, but I'd work as late into it as you can. Depends on what you do. I am a professor, so I can sit and I have down time between classes. I get bored sitting home, but that's me. I don't relax well. If I were home, I would start some projects and not rest, so I figured, just go to work.

But if you already telecommute, maybe you could talk to your boss about doing more of that.

My two cents for what it's worth!

And best of luck! Congrats! babies are great!!

My first was 3 weeks late and I worked until I was 2 weeks late. I took off the week before because of a lot of testing and getting ready.

As you get closer to your due date they are going to be looking at station and dilation and all that will give you insight. I agree work as late as you can stand it and enjoy the most of the time off after the baby comes. [which will still be a lot of work but you can chill with the new baby much of that time]

Till I was in labor with both girls.

I went on leave 2 weeks before my due date...I actually was hospitalized the day before I was to go on leave so I didn't get any rest ahead of time.  Working was a necessity and I took a total of 8 weeks off for leave.  I had complications...was planning to go back after 6 weeks but didn't work out that way.

Tanya

my daughter was born aug 18th i worked till aug 1st .

she was due the third

I had a scheduled induction for my 1st child. I worked until the day before my induction date. I too worked in NYC but lived in NJ. I worked at the hospital where I was to deliver. I was better off being at work than being at home.

Since I was a 1st time mom I wanted to spend all my allowed time when she came out.

GOOD LUCK!!! Enjoy your baby!!!!

Yes, the nap is key.  I worked full time up to 39 weeks with both my babies and went into labor within 48 hours with both of them.  I work on my feet so I attribute going a little early to that.  Both times I actually wanted to be out by 38 weeks but stayed a little longer to accomodate my employers.  I remember well counting the days until my leave.

Glad I am not the only crazy one working past my due date!

I worked a week past my due date (up to 41 weeks)  Daughter was due on the 16th of January, I worked until the 22.  She was born on the 27th.  I would have been TOTALLY bored waiting at home to have the baby. Especially when she was overdue, if I hadn't had work to keep my mind off the fact that I was pregnant FOREVER, I might have gone totally mental (was about to go totally mental anyway being in my 42nd week of pregnancy).  Finally went into labor on the day I was scheduled to be induced.  DD just liked to take her time with things... she is still like that at 2.5 years old.

I worked until the day before I had my son.  I left work early for a Dr appt and found out he was breech, had a scheduled c-section the next day on my Dr's lunch break, guess he had a busy schedule that day.
