How long are your workouts?

Quote  |  Reply

Hey ladies,

I'm new. I just did my first Workout B today, and I felt as though I was done pretty quickly, even though I worked really hard. The time didn't go by fast, but when I looked at the clock it seemed like only 20 or 25 minutes had gone by. Is this a normal amount of time? How long do the workouts usually take you?

Thanks!

All of the stage 1 workouts took no more than 30 minutes.  The fastest for me was 27 minutes.  If it is only taking you 20 min, make sure you are resting for the full 60 seconds.  If you feel like you don't need the rest time, then you might not be lifting heavy enough.  I have heard that the workouts get longer in later stages...

Thanks, Ash. I'm not entirely sure how long it took me today... I'll keep better track next time. It just felt a bit short. Probably because I'm used to doing 45 minute classes. I'm alternating the workouts and HIIT on an elliptical on days when I don't have spinning. I'm hoping that makes for good fat loss and muscle growth.

The workouts will get longer as you progress.  Some of the later stage workouts took me as much as 1.5 hours.

Make sure you are getting your full rests, and make sure you are lifting as heavy as you can.

Oof! Okay. I may not have been taking full rests. Then again, I may have done it just right because I hadn't actually timed myself. I am just not sure what time I got to the gym today... The weights I chose were, I thought, very challenging. I struggled, but was able to maintain pretty good form. I have terrible balance so my lunges probably looked a bit sloppy. I know people here pull a lot more, but 60lb deadlifts were hard for me... I had to lessen the weight on the lat pulldowns because I couldn't do a full set of 15. I promise I'm not wimping out intentionally! I want to lift heavy.

Anyway, thanks!

You are doing fine!  60 pound deads is good to start.  You will get heavier as you go on.  I started NROLFW with only 50 pound deads and it felt very difficult for me.  I can now deadlift 120.  I started lifting around this time last year.

Just make sure to challenge yourself with the weights for YOU!  15 reps is alot of reps too.

I believe it is important to watch the rest periods and try to keep them with what is in the workouts.  Congrats on starting!
