no longer counting

Quote  |  Reply
Ok so ive desided not to count calories - generally, and especially not log them on here - ive had enough! lol it doesnt seem to impact upon how much i eat anyway, so by now i have a good idea as to how many calories are in what, ill still weigh things and try to keep things simple. im going to try for 3 weeks and then weigh myself and see what happens - if ive put on weight i will go back to counting because obviously i havnt learned enough, if im the same ill kick myself in the butt and if ive lost weight woohoo! Ill still be around here looking at and posting stuff, just no longer loging food

Now all i have to do is weight and see!!

Any advise for those who either are doing this or have done would be greatly appreciated!

When I started on cc (june 17) I was counting calories. I got lazy and quit counting and have not lost since. I am starting back counting again
thats depressing lol well i hope your weightloss kicks back into place now!
I've done it before. You'd be surprised how many calories are in some things that seem healthy, you'll be especially surprised if you don't find out how many calories you consumed until after you ate it. If you stop counting all your calories, keep looking at the nutrition info and just see how many calories there are. Just be careful. Don't eat to much and eat lots of fruits and veggies.

I did it...  and then just kinda fell apart...  well... one or two cookies isn't so bad...  I'll have a snickers bar for a snack...

before long I was feeling lethargic... and I didn't want to work out anymore either... what's the big deal.. I'll get back into it...

Three years later (more than 60 pounds heavier)... I'm back into it  OOPS!!! not counting didn't work for me!

I did it and have had success. I know what to eat and to eat 6 small meals per day and all that stuff. I still get a rough estimate in my head, but the counting was consuming my life. I have lost a couple of pounds not counting and focusing on workouts! Who knows, maybe you just need a break and will get back at it again soon!

I do this. I kind of figure it out in my mind but for the most part I really watch what I eat and workout.  Then every once in a while, more when I'm having a bad day I log it and that keeps me on track.

i like counting calories to keep track...

but it's kind of discouraging when i don't know how many calories something has. like the grilled chicken my brother will bbq, or flipino recipes my dad will cook.

so i stopped. but now, im counting calories again, since i am eating only foods i know how many cals are in it. for now.... ha. ha.
i've stopped counting, because i did for a while and i pretty much know what i should eat and what i should avoid. i also find that counting calories causes me to stuff myself some days and undereat on others. but if i start to gain weight i'll definitly count again!
i've stopped counting.  it's all pretty obvious to me: chips and beer, bad; balance, good.  but i don't have a huge appetite, so it's not hard (yes, i'm still losing, slowly but surely).
the counting is all sort of cult ish.  that phrase has taken upon a new meaning in my small town, so sorry, i dont mean to offend anyone.

the point of calorie count, to me, is to re learn healthy portions and eating tips.  life isnt about food.  its just one of the many struggles i'm slowly conquering.
I will stop counting next week - at least temporarily - as I will probably be away from the Internet most of the week while out of town. I am nervous, as counting has really done wonders for me. I am also nervous as I will be provided three meals a day for 6 days so God only knows how much heavier I will be when I return. I ultimately do want to stop counting, just not yet, not til I have firmly hit and embraced my goal weight.
thanks for all your comments and advise, i think it should not be too hard for me at the moment seen as im limited as to what i can eat anyway - beakfast weetabix with milk or yogurt and raisins if i want a fruit, lunch 2 slices of italian bread or a hamburger roll or a hotdog bun with turkey slices, cheese or ham in with half a cucumber and 14 baby carrots. afternoon snack is either some wheat thins, cheese, yogurt or an apple and dinner is either soup, leftovers from the family im with, another sandwich or a frozen meal. i think as long as i watch the weekends when i eat out or at least am out morei should be ok. i hate having such a limited diet at the moment but i dont want to be spending more then $10 a week on food, so everything else has to be suplimented by the family - and they dont eat fruit or vegetables!! grrr
I'm hoping when I get to my goal of 165 that I can stop counting.  When I've tried it on weekends I do not lose.
I ,myself, don't know what to do. I have been counting for 20 days and have lost 1.9 pounds. thats not so good.
I started back in June and the counting definitely helped me learn portion control, but as soon as I stopped counting calories, I started letting the little extras slip back in.  I think by actually logging the calories it makes you aware of the little things that add up in the end.  I haven't lost any weight with either method though.  I don't know if I am at a plateau or what, but I am starting to get a little frustrated.
I stoped counting in July, and didn't lose a pound all of that month.  It's just so easy to accidently eat a little too much, and that's all it took for me to go from losing to maintenence.  I started counting again a week ago monday, and I've lost 5 lbs!  Now, I didn't mind the break, I needed one, but I know that if I want to lose I have to count.
HA well its been what 2 days? (cant remember todays date) and i couldnt do it! lol how funny, ive typed in everything i ate today and found out ive only eaten like 900 calories!! - makes up for yesterday at least - where i had an entire chicken calzone - sooo yummy!! so ive oficially failed at my quest, nevertheless i guess its a good thing, ill just keep counting - whast i might do is add everything up at night to see how i do eating 'on my own' so to speak... time will tell.

thats for everyones imput i really apreciate it!
If you're on a plateau, i think its a REALLY smart thing to do! i was on a plateau for a month, then stopped counting calories and literally binged. but i upped my exercise a lot because i was on vacation. i was walking at least 1 1/2 hours a day, and dancing 3 hours at night. I came back from the 6 day vacation and lost 5 pounds!, have been at 129 since.. and i doubt it was any water weight or muscle mass. ;)

since then ive stopped counting calories and just exercising and walking more. i just eat when im hungry now and dont do the whole 3 hour things anymore. i was so obsessed with food while calorie-counting.

thank god im over it :)

but to give where credit is due, it did help me lose the first 11 pounds
