Ok So I've been trying to grow my hair out for awhile. It doesn't seem to grow past a certain length (shoulders) Before I've heard about vitamins that help hair grow.. does anyone know if that type of thing works?

Oh, you'll hear from BOTH ends of the spectrum on this one. I do not believe that they work. Your body only needs/can use so many vitamins/minerals at one time. The ONLY way hair vitamins would work would be if you were deficient in something, which IS possible, with stress, bad eating habits, pollution, etc. But personally I think they're a waste of money.
Try measuring your hair and then checking on it every month. Then you could figure out at what rate it's growing. Maybe it's just slow. Hair DOES have a "terminal length" but I've never heard of it stopping at shoulder length. I suppose it's possible -- I just don't know for sure.

try massaging your scalp each time you shampoo. also brush your hair alot, the stimulation on your scalp will speed up hair growth. also invest in a hair mask, Ojon or Frederic Fekkai are good (they sell them at sephora). hair grows about an inch or so per month, hence roots and getting your hair done each month, it just doesn't seem to be getting and longer because the ends are breaking off. the hair mask can help strengthen your hair so that it can grow and not break off
hair can stop growing?
I used to use some traditional herbal tonic (cant find it in US sorry) to improve the health and growth of my hair. It works but I been using it for years. I also find that for me, washing my hair at least every other day helps promote the hair growth. It could be from massaging the scalp, and or cleaning the folicles from all the 'stuff' a gal put on their head... . When my hair is dirty/oily, hair tends to fall off much easier.
But if you wanna try, I believe vitamin E, also found in mung bean, may help hair growth.
another note, trimming your hair even by 0.5 inch every now and then might make it grow faster. Passing the shoulder length may seem forever, because your hair kinda follow the curve of your shoulder first, until its long enough to just fall straight down. So be patient too.

your hair can grow to a certain lenght and then stop growing! its just something out bodies do.
thats why when you cut your hair it seems to grow faster, but when it reaches a certain length it slows down again

I'm not a hair expert or anything, but I always thought hair tended to grow slower in the winter months. I think that the speed that your hair grows maybe has something to do with how healthy it is (ie: getting regular trimmings, not coloring it every month, no harsh treatments, etc), but I'm not sure. I haven't, however, heard that hair stops growing at a certain length (I've heard your nails and hair even grow for a short time after death...not sure on that one), it just may seem that way because there's a noticeable difference between a buzz and chin-length hair vs. the many varying degrees of shoulder-length hair.

Just my two cents. Again, I'm not a hair expert, just giving my thoughts. :)
Happy February!

I've grown out my hair several times (down to waist), and I've found that trimming and not conditioning my scalp helps it grow faster.
I only condition the tips of my hair. And I massage when I use shampoo. Also, I will occasionally give my hair a break on the weekends from any product (no hairspray, blow dryer, shampoo, or conditioner). I do this about once a month. During that weekend I will rinse my hair, but I will not wash it.
Also, be gentle with you hair while it's wet, because it's really fragile, and can break easily. Comb your hair while it's wet, and use the brush while it's dry.

Trim your hair according to the moon...read the farmers almanac and find out when the moon is waxing (getting fuller but not yet full) and especially if it is waxing in Leo...
Seems to work for me...and I have had a thinning hair problem due to hypothyroid so taking my meds helps too.

I'm with stacye on this one. I only wash my hair 2 or 3 times a week. the only products I use are ones that will help moisturize the ends and keep 'old' hair healthy and hydrated. I get my hair trimmed about every other month or around 8-10 weeks. I rarely color, and when I do I go to an Aveda salon. Never hairspray or blow dry. Always comb when wet, brush only when dry.
Currently my hair is almost to the middle of my back. Few months back I cut off 7inches cuz it was dehydrated. 7inches took off all the bad stuff. I miss the length sooo much! I'm growing mine out too. =) I've heard that prenatal vitamins are supposed to help, but that only works if you're already experiencing vitamin deficentcies. I know GNC has a women's vitamin for hair, nails, and skin. I just bought some recently just cuz with the winter dry air my skin and nails are really taking a beating, plus I want my hair to grow!

So here's what I think. I tried to grow my hair out for years.
Then I realized that it never would grow, because I always wore
ponytails! I didn't have split ends and I got my hair trimmed,
but I didn't realize that it was pulling it out from the roots!
So I just stopped wearing ponytails (which now sure takes a lot more
work that just putting it up!)
I've grown my hair waist-length a number of times, too. Here is what has worked for me:
HOWEVER... if you really do want long hair, you can buy extensions or wigs. I own a few just for play. :-)
- Colour your hair just for kicks. Nothing makes your hair want to grow like the ability to show your roots.
- Go broke OR become a full-time student. Both mean that you can't afford a decent hair cut.
- Make sure you have native blood. I'm part Metis and Mic Mac. Our hair grows really fast. You want to get certain ancestors out of your family tree, like anyone from the British Isles or Africa.

Hair has a 'natural length'.. once it gets there it can't grow any longer. but try taking biotine or get a hair, skin and nails vitamin.. you never know what will help
When I asked my doctor how to grow back my thinning hair, she suggested a) stop smoking (if you do) and b) the hair nails and skin vitamin from GNC or wherever.
Oh try Formula 37, it's a whole plan with vitamins you take and Shampoo and Conditioner. It's kinda expensive, but it really works. If you cant afford the whole thing, skip the vitamins and buy the shampoo and conditioner, it's so great. Then buy folic acid and your local drug store and take 800-1200 mg/ day. Oh and try to keep up with regular trims, every six to eight weeks to keep those ends from splitting. Hope I helped a little.
pre-natal vitamins!! they are great for your skin and your hair. And it doesn't matter if you are not trying to get pregnant or if you are not pregnant.
I lost a lot of hair within just a couple of months from a medication. It was falling out in clumps and after I stopped the medication, my doctor prescribed prenatal vitamins and I have been taking them for a couple of years now. I also am on BC pills. They are prescription but unless you have underlying health issues I don't know why you couldn't get them.
Your hair can also break off from over-processing (straightening, coloring, blow-drying) and from not eating right. If you've lost a lot of weight your body might need some time to re-adjust and that could be why it's breaking off and not seeming to grow...

I just had ten inches cut off. Two years ago I had six cut off, and three years ago I had 12 inches cut off. I wear a pony tail and a hair net every day at work. I wash my hair about twice a week with tea tree oil shampoo.
I think that genetics play a big part with your hair.

- wash 2/ week
- use masks
- trim when needed only and very little 1/8 inch
- wear in single braid when wet, until dry, the weight helps
- braids period help with health and growth.
- use elastics without metal peices
- DONT brush too much
- DO massage scalp
- use "main n' tail" look it up
- Hair DOES NOT EVER stop growing.
- I've been growing my hair for years. went from spiking to shoulders in two years, it's down to my butt from my shoulders in four years. so six years from very short.
Ok, how can you manage to only wash your hair 2 or 3 times a week nymo? if I don't wash it every night it just looks REALLY oily.
Depends on your hair type i guess.
As for how you can wash your hair only 2-3 times a week... I've done much less. My hair/scalp are very very dry and my hair actually gets damaged when I wash it every day.
