My Longest Plateau Is.....

Quote  |  Reply
Given there are a few threads of people scared they have not lost in a 7 day period I thought a thread to raise the issue that will inevitably hit the majority on here was in order.

So... What is your longest plateau and what appeared to break it for you? (patience, food, exercise etc...)

I am lucky in that my longest plateau was

3 months

and it eventually broke after I changed my meal structure and exercise routine

2 months and I got over it by increasing my food intake.

8-9weeks, I broke it after upping my cals, I was eating 8-900 (I know, I know!) and got up to 12-1300. I'm still trying to up it to 1400 or so, one day at a time & all that but I'm still losing...slowly but surely.

A couple months, and it was broken mostly by patience, but also being a little more careful not to creep over my calorie target.

About a month.  I was mildly annoyed, but I had confidence that it would start coming off again eventually, and it did.  Seems like as you approach goal weight, it slows down a bit.

Also, as I've gotten closer to my goal weight, I've been slightly less strict and increased my intake by 100 cal per day.  I still have a calorie deficit, but I'm not in a huge hurry and would rather ease into maintenance than try to suddenly shift to a new calorie intake.

During that 1 month plateau, I did have one day (my son's birthday) where I pigged out and ate like 5 pieces of b-day cake and a couple of small bags of chips in 2 days.  It was WORTH IT.  Smile

Eight months. It was... frustrating, at best.

Six months.  Admittedly I wasn't always good as gold, but I'm just now starting to lose again.  What broke through it was a combination of patience and lifting heavier weights and adding in outside running now that the weather's warmer.

1 month, which may not seem like a long time compared to the rest of you, until I tell you that I've only been counting calories for 3 months!

Adding weight training and more exercise broke it for me.

7 weeks and counting!  *sigh*

To be honest I am pretty fit and pleased with my appearance so it's not a big deal, it's just that I have been busting my butt weight training and running so I was hoping to have at least lost some body fat even if the scale stayed about the same (145 lbs), but no such luck.

Oh well.

I guess I'll just have to wait it out.

3 months here too :(

I thought I broke through two weeks ago, but it was false hope.  I have started more intense runs, though so that's probably partially the cause.  I gave up counting for awhile in there, and that surely didn't help.  I think I need to cut out more calories.

Great question... about 2-3 weeks for me. Yeah I know not a long time...but. torture none the less. For me it was just really watching my calories more closely, varying my intake and exercise routine and increasing the intensity of my work out. I know eat in a range 1500-1750... and my 15 minute mile is pretty intense... I hope am dreading a plateau like the ones people talk about here. Do you think there is a way to avoid one? It seems that everyone admitted to not being so strict during that time. I know I was tempted to fall off the wagon when the scale was not moving.

Currently on one now AGGGHHHH!! I have been all Cardio and Resistance training since January, and hit a plateau a few weeks ago. I have stalled and my weight is floating around 171.6-172.8lbs. Today I was 170.8 that is the first drop in 3 weeks, so I hope it is the start of a dropping trend.

I have had many Drill Sargents in my life, but I am by far the toughest on myself. I am a adrenalin junky so there are no issues working out for me; I beat myself up for just thinking I may miss a day. I did switch my routine from Cardio and Resistance to Strength training hoping that the muscle will help burn the fat. My daily goal is to burn 1000+ calories per workout, and I don’t think it would be healthy to do much more. We will see if this change in strategy has helped.

two months and counting... I am at 167-170lbs. I am ok, getting a little frustrated. Trying different things to try and break out of it, no luck just yet but i'll keep on trying!
