Check out my profile default pic.....do I look fat? I look in the mirror and feel like a fat slob :0( I dont ever seem to be satisfied with my body regardless of my weightloss! Anyone else feel this way, like they will never be satisfied?
Reason: Locked due to Inflammatory Posts
not at all, you actually look quite thin, but i will warn you that you will likely get some inflammatory responses because people hate when they think people are fishing for compliments (myself not included) but please be warned that you might get sarcasm and rude comments.
Thanks, I want to know mainly....is anyone ever truly satisfied with themselves? I am sure there will be rude people on here. I am well prepared for their nastiness!
So you look like you carry your weight up top -- your legs were slim to start with. At 145 you look nicely proportioned and slim.
And can we ever be satisfied? Well, once we stop taking things for granted.
We're trained from girlhood to view our bodies as parts that are either too big, too small, too flabby, too scrawny, too paunchy, too thick, too saggy...
We never learn how to interact with our bodies based on a) they are us and whole, not separate and a bunch of parts and b) they are amazing in what they do and put up with. Here are some of things I marvel at:
- Women's bodies carry an extra layer of fat than a man because if they didn't we couldn't bring ourselves and baby healthily to term. It also protects us in famine (not an issue at the moment in North America, but still!)
- We have two X chromosomes so we are far less likely to suffer from serious genetic illnesses (we've got full chromosomal back-up) unlike men.
- We have a more robust immune system than most men -- we could have a half dose of many vaccines and become fully immune as a result.
- Our limbic systems (the emotional center of the brain) take in many more data points for distressing events than a man. Double-edged sword in that it can make us more prone to anxiety disorders, but it can also enable us to see danger faster and protect ourselves and those we love as a result.
- Our vision centers in the brain allow us to distinguish subtle shades of green and red that completely elude men. (maybe we really do enjoy Fall colors more?)
jayz...
Like hedgren mentioned, you look like you carry your weight up top and in the middle. You don't look fat, you just want to dress your body to flatter your shape. In my experience the best thing any woman can do is to start with a bra that is very supportive (especially us busties)...that can change your figure dramatically. Also, don't wear something because it's trendy...wear what really makes the most of your best features. You've got outstanding legs! Show those suckers off :)
You could lose about 10 lbs.
what do YOU think?
Are you happy with your body?
do you like seeing pictures of yourself?
do you like to wear a swimsuit?
are you comfortable in your own skin?
and most importantly are you HEALTHY?
if you said yes to all [or even most] of this, primarily the last question.. then this post and this question is irrelevant
Err. You also have a couple of pictures of women on your profile from the 50's who you wrote as your ideal. They wern't rock hard or stick thin.
Everyone has to find a place where they feel happy and healthy with themselves, and realize their body will never look like x (insert skinny celebrity here). You cant force yourself to grow 3 inches taller, or have smaller bones, or whatever it may be. I think when reality sets in and you stop the idea that looks are a competition... it's a lot easier to be happy with yourself, or at least know what is a reasonable and healthy place to be satisfied.
You aren't fat at all. You do NOT look fat. Just ignore the person who says you could lose 10 pounds. You don't need to lose a thing - you look great.
I get worried too, thinking I look huge at 142. But my friends think I'm insane whenever I say that.
And in turn, I think you're crazy to think that you're fat!
Ever since I realized how hard women are pushed to hate themselves and be dissatisfied with their bodies at every turn, I don't feel as conflicted about the issues I have with my own body. We're encouraged to compare ourselves to other women and find that we come up short, to fear getting fat as the worst possible thing that could happen to us, far worse than starving and dying, so that eating disorders have become as horrifyingly prevalent as they are.
I think a lot of people would be sorry if most women were happy with their bodies. Think of the man who hits on a woman and angrily calls her "fat" (and by extension "ugly") when she rejects him. If he thought she was fat and ugly, would he have been hitting on her? He wants to hurt her pride like she hurt his, and calling a woman fat is a nearly guaranteed way to make her feel bad about herself. If I had that power, and any desire to use it, and no conscience, I might not want to give it up.
You are absolutely fine as you are, sweetie!! You are gorgeous. =)
But, I know exactly how you feel. No matter how skinny people tell me I am... I never seem to be able to see that when I look at myself in the mirror. All I see are my flaws and they always seem to overshadow the good parts... -sighs- And yes, no matter how much I seem to do... I'm never satisfied...
Sadly, life goes on. The only thing I do is try to satisfy my hunger for satisfaction. How? By trying harder... =/
But don't beat yourself down because you feel that way! It doesn't mean that you look exactly how you feel. You are gorgeous! Embrace your body, carry it with pride and celebrate your femininity!

People WANTED to be "fat" "back then." Fat is a great, beautiful thing to be when food is scarce.
If you honestly think you and most average people you see are fat, the "truth" is that you have a seriously twisted image of yourself and reality.

She's 5'8" & 145 lbs. Please tell me how that isn't a healthy weight? Her BMI is 22.0. That's healthy.
And that's not why people wanted to be "fat" back then. If you were plump that meant you had the money to afford food. It meant you were wealthy. If you were thin that meant you were poor.
P.S.
Please learn how to spell. It will probably be useful sometime in your life.
:O I'm in shock over some of the comments on this thread! The poor OP!
A mod needs to do something about this.
I'm new here and i need to put in 2 cents in this situation.
1) 22 bmi is definitely not fat but people have different perexpectives/opinions and we must all respect that. Especially people who grew up with skinny people, they tend to judge themselves and others harsher weight wise. What happened to respecting people's opinions? Ralph Lauren recently fired their 5'8, 110 pounds model because she was "too fat".
2) Being mean was totally not necessary (everyone here).
3) You don't look fat but, but I always feel fat too even though everyone say i'm not. So i know how you feel.
Please take this type of talk to another website. Thank you.
The original poster is at a healthy weight. But the thing is, it doesn't matter at all what other people think of your body, it is all about what YOU think of it. Instead of looking in the mirror and thinking negative thoughts think positive ones! It helps, I promise!! Don't let these other people get you down. Their opinion should mean nothing to you. You look wonderful. Promise. Tell yourself that everyday! And if you do feel like you need to lose a little then do it! But do it the healthy way :)
I usually don't make any comments on threads like this, but for some reason I had to.
