Do I look too thin??

Most of you might know that when you begin to suffer from an ED you lose such a sense of reality but some people have said some negative things to me recently about being too thin. I just wondered whether they were just being bitter or whether I do actually look too thin. I trust people here more than the outside world. Please take a look. Thanks and hope you are all well

yes

i think youre body looks good except that your stomach looks like its about to collapse within itself or something. thats the only thing that looks unhealthy, to me anyway

I think more important is are you at a healthy weight,are your calories adequate,do you get a period and do you have other health problems? Sometimes people say things out of concern and they come

when I used to actuvely have an ED I would ask this type of question all the time. I wanted people to say yes.  When they said yes I'd get a good feeling inside knowing that I was soooo thin.

It is hard to tell from your pictures, you are hunched over (which give your stomach that caved in look mentioned by someone else) in both that show your body. Eat the recommended calories with a healthy diet and you will be fine. Some body types are just thinner, don't obsess about it. You mentioned an ED and if you are recovering from one just eat healthy, you certainly don't need to lose any weight but if that is the natural healthy eating size of your body enjoy it, most people have to struggle to stay thin.

Keep in mind that what people see around them in general is what those commenting on your size are comparing you to and the average American is not necessarily at a healthy weight. I split my year between the US and Asia and every time I come back to the states I am shocked by how much larger people tend to be here.

Not sure why you picked the name "insecure", you have nothing to be insecure about. You are beautiful and look healthy to me.

i hate these posts. these questions are loaded. no answer is the right answer. yes you look too thin means "victory" in the head of an ed-mindset and no you look fine means "**** im still fat"

you know yourself if you are treating your body in a bad way. you know if you have lost your periods that you are stressing your body. it doesnt matter if you look normal, its about how you are achieving that "normal" look

I would say personally that you look super normal. Healthy. Your stomach doesn't look concaved but it isn't flabby either. You look healthy, and toned.

Seek help if all else fails. A little bit of counseling never hurt anyone.

You should be talking this over with your counselor, therapist or doctor and not here. I agree with Fidget, there is no correct answer we can give you.

Health is not just what you weigh. Some people might be healthy at your weight; you might not. You will know if it is the right weight for you if you are eating good amounts of real, nourishing food; feeling satisfied; feeling able to treat yourself; feeling pleasure and not fear when you are eating or thinking about food. If you have enough energy and feel vibrant and well, then your weight is probably not an issue.

I think you look gorgeous!Unfortunately this doesn't mean that your body feels comfortable at this weight...if you are at a healthy BMI you could try to eat maintenance calories and see if your body can adjust to this weight.

You have to be sure that you're a healthy weight (BMI between 20 and 25), that you're getting a balanced diet and sufficient calories (typically 2000 or so a day), that you're not overexercising, obsessing about food, living in fear of gaining an ounce, losing your periods or other physical problems....   If you can be sure of all that then you may not be too thin.

Initially a BMI of 20 in recovery is important. However, if you reach BMI of 20 and then naturally drop slightly below that, then that is also fine too as long as you have not had to restrict to get there (I.e - you eat normally to maintain that weight)

A medium or large framed women usually needs a BMI of 20 or higher, but a lot of medium - small built women are healthy at 18.5 - 20 too.

 

 

Look - yes you look thin, but in a healthy way. Your stomach is super flat which looks great - and I cannot see any bones that poke out and look unhealthy.

If you look that slim, and you have no bones sticking out that show that your weight is too low for your body frame, then you would be healthy.

In my opinion - you can tell if some one is too unnaturally slim if it is obvious, and they look emaciated/their bones poke out too much etc.

From your pictures - yes you are slimmer then the average girl/women and you do not look emaciated or unnaturally thin from the picture of you in your swimming gear.

You are not too thin, you're just right. People who can count their ribs in the mirror are too thin.

In all honesty, I think you look great, although in the third photo your thighs look a bit thin (in the second one they look fine, however).

Just a word of advice, in addition to the very helpful tips everyone else has shared. I think you should try to trust people more, or surround yourself with more trustworthy people. This mindset of turning to the internet whenever you need an honest opinion sounds pretty unhealthy to me. And also, be careful not to assume and judge too quickly. Sure, some people might be bitter and envious, but others could be genuinely concerned, especially if there has been an ED or some tendencies of the likes in your past.

but u dont have to be dangerously underweight to be suffering either, eds are psychological.

I think we all know which one of those is better.

I'm not even going to look at your pictures :) But I do want to say I know where you're coming from. My brother continues to tell me that I'm too thin, and other people that never met me before I lost weight have never made any comments about it. Some people think its a compliment to call you thin. Some know that is just as bad as being called fat.

It depends on your bone structure of what body weight you should be. Ask your doctor if you are at the right weight for your structure. Also eat healthy, your recommended calories (fat/protein/carbs), and if you're getting your period and not getting dizzy or have health problems (low blood pressure - gets cold all the time) then don't worry. Stay active. You will NEVER be a size that is accepted by everyone. It took me a long time to realize that :)

Actually, not every body like more toned women some people would actually prefer this girl the way she is. If she chooses to improve her fitness and build some muscle, some people will like it better, and others will prefer her how she is now

 

Sorry - I just thought it was a little narrow minded of you to assume that EVERY BODY prefers more toned women.

 

Personally - I think this girl looks toned and slim enough. Her stomach is flat and I do not think it would look and better or worse if she toned up/improved her fitness.
