Looking for advice.
Hey. I'm currently concerned about how little i eat and the fact i'm underweight. I'm just looking for a little advice on how i could go about putting on some weight and how worried i should be about how much i eat.
I'm 17, almost 18. I'm 5ft 11 roughly and weigh about 133 pounds. I've been around this weight for a fairly long time now. My eating routine is pretty much the same day by day:
Breakfast: A bowl of cereal.
Lunch: A cheese or ham sandwich followed with by a mars bar and finished with an apple. Sometimes i stretch to a mini sausage roll. Lately i've gone off chocolate snacks as they make me feel slightly sick just thinking about them.
Dinner: Chips, jacket potato or sometimes mini potatoes with a meat of some kind or a pie with a portion of vegetables.
Dessert: I used to have a yoghurt every night, i don't anymore. I tend to eat another bowl of cereal before i go to bed.
The only meal i eat at a regular time is dinner. I usually have breakfast anytime between 8am-1pm. Lunch 12pm-4pm. I don't snack - Meaning i don't go to fridge at various times of the day to eat chocolate, i hate crisps and things like that. I may have a peice of cake once a month or something or the odd ice cream.
Sometimes normal breakfast or lunch is replaced by eggs on toast. I don't do this regularly though.
I just don't feel like eating most of the time and i tend to shake if i don't eat - Lack of energy. Should i be concerned about my eating "schedule"? I think it's impossible for me to put on weight. I'm currently trying because the girlfriend is moaning that i should eat more, so i'm trying.
I welcome anyones opinion or advice. Thanks for any response.
you would eat within an hour of waking, even if you're not hungry. it will be hard for the first week, btu after that your body will crave that food. ocne you'Re on track with you b-fast, the lunch should time itself as well and you should be good to go! try having more protein, and more healthy fats (like nuts, avocados), but don't go over-board. and exercise: muscle is weight!
It takes commitment, you just happen to be on the other end of spectrum of most ppl on the site. Just like most of us have to cut back on food, you need to increase your food intake. Maybe your lack of an appetite has to do with you eating the same things all the time, perhaps trying new things would help increase your appetite for eating.
Do you log your food, how many calories are you burning and how many are you consuming?
Weight gain like weight loss has to be meticulously calculated for most of us. I wish we could switch metabolism but until that happens keep increasing your caloric intake
I consume about 1000 calories per day roughly. Less, more often than not. I normally do a lot of running though i haven't these past few weeks. I will be starting running again shortly though - My running partner has been away. When i run, i run 1.5 miles three times a week. I don't eat anymore that i've stated above to account for the running though.
I'm sorry but you're starving yourself. If you truly want to gain weight you're going to have to change your habits. That might not be comfortable or easy to do at first, it takes a lot of effort, but you need to be eating at least 3 times that amount. Probably more since you're a male, tall and active.
I'm 5'8, female, and 111 lbs, and it takes 4000 cals a day for me to even gain minimal amounts. And I don't do more than yoga once or twice a week.
Have bigger breakfasts, sausage, eggs, toast, granola, have a smoothie with it. have you tried protein smoothies? Those are good as snacks. YOu're absolutely going to ahve to start snacking, that's the only way to get in enough food wihout feeling too stuffed all the time. You don't have to eat cake and ice cream all the time to gain weight, you can do it the healthy way, although ice cream is really good for weight gain and provides calcium. Try nut butters, dried fruit, avocados, switch to full fat products, etc. if you look at the high calorie foods list you'll find a lot of tips.
I understand some people just dont find that much enjoyment in eating and get caught up doing other things, but in your case you're going to have to simply make it a priority just like you would with work, school, or any other responsability. Set a schedule for yourself and stick to it no matter what. For example, I usually eat every 2-3 hours, so I go breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack. and if you want to build muscle and tone maybe replace one of your running days with strenght training, but be sure to eat back those cals too!
Gaining weight is hard but not impossible, it just takes dedication. The people on this site are really helpful too, I know if they catch me undereating I get my butt kicked and it gets me back on track. Good luck!
I am a hardgainer as many of you have detailed through these postings. We are pre-disposed to be our sleek sizes. If we ever did want to gain weight, often times it does take a little bit more than our well rounded friends. It's tough, but with a little extra discipline and knowledge, one can gain weight without extreme measures. I have a blog that talks about this very topic, if you ever free to take a look. I highly suggest it.

I do understand why society has focused on the epidemic of obesity, since many people do suffer iller fates as a result of being overweight. But still, It would be nice for some of us hardgainers to get some attention on the national scope like we are in this gathering of minds. There just isn't enough information or knowledge out there to guide us through our lifestyle.
