Welcome Andee!

I was noticing there are a lot of us short Lady's on here. I am 5'3 and a lot of you seem like you said 5'2-5'4 Am i correct? I love not being the only shortie in the group.

Good news and bad news i got my pc back today and it is now classified as a paper weight. My motherboard is fried. To make it worse the replacement for that one is sit down fist....................$800Yell ! But my hubby surprised me with an early birthday gift today. He got me a used pc for only $70 It rocks Cool! I can now go back to tracking my calories and stuff. I also am able to be on line when ever i need too oh yeah!!!

Any way i am back and happy to be.

Joan

Thanks Heather for the tip.  I'll check it out.  I'm really new at the running thing.  I need to make sure I'm not too fat for it. Can you be too fat for it, like can you damage your joints if you weigh too much?

Corina, I'm hoping the next few days will bring you results.  With me I'll lose 8 or 9 pounds in 2 weeks then the next 2 weeks are nothing!  Hang in there.  Think, too, of how healthy your body is becoming.  The weight will come off!

Have a great night.  Out here in Oklahoma we have some bad storms rolling in so I'm getting off the computer for the night.  Stay warm to all you snow birds!

~Jen

Glad you're back, Joan. Aren't computers fickle?

Thanks Jen, I definitely need the encouragement. It's so hard to know what to do to shock your body. For now, I'm just eating around 1200 calories to see if that will do the trick - crossing my fingers!

My cruise is at the end of May and I really wanted to feel like I've done well . . .

Hope everyone is having a great night!

Corina

SmileJen, I want to try running also, but I know when I was in high school (oh so long ago) I had problems with my boobs hurting so definetly a good sports bra is in order. Also if your knees start to feel poppy (I don't know what else to call it) or they start popping afterwards when you bend down see your doctor. I know my doctor told me to take Aleve everyday so that I could still ride my bike but get pass the knee inflamation. Have you seen the forum on learning how to run? I want to try it but oh I am nervous!

http://caloriecount.about.com/learn-run-again -want-ft133558

You might want to check it out. It looks like it might be helpful. I am planning on trying to start it the next time I can drag my butt to the gym Smile

Well hope everyone has/had a good night!

Andee

Good Morning everyone!

Glad your pC is back up Joan!!!  I can't stand mine at home. And the one I have at work restricts 90% of everything on the internet.Undecided Oh well!

Jen and Andee, the most important thing about starting to run is that you take it slow.  Jog for about 5 minutes and then stop and stretch really good!!!  Especially your hamstrings and your calves.  Then gradually work up to a goal.  Try running for a shorter time or distance and then walk for the same time/distance.  Then start increasing the run tim and shorten the walk time.  Make sure you take in deep breaths too.  At least 20 mins is good for increasing your cardio endurance, but 10 more mins and your body starts burning fat!!!! Good luck to you both!

Lost 2 lbs so far this week so I am happy!!!

I hope everyone has a good day today!!

Barb

Welcome to the group Andee!!  I too want to start running but haven't gotten the nerve yet.  I have 2 bad knees though, so I am hesitating because of that.  I have a local running store that would be a great place to start but I haven't gone yet.  I might do that this weekend.  I have been reading up on CC about starting a running routine.  It looks simple enough.  It is just a matter of getting out there and doing it.

Okay, time for the funny me.  As most of you know, I went swimsuit shopping 2 weekends ago.  I found the most beautiful swimsuit.  It is awesome!!  Just for kicks last night I tried it on again just to see if it fit differently.  Can you believe it is just a touch looser on me!!  Heather, I think your firming fairy is at my door or something.  Smile  If I have to get another $$$$$ swimsuit before the end of the summer I am going to be really mad.  Wait a minute, mad about loosing weight.  Duh, isn't that what we're here for?  Laughing

Joan was talking about being one of the shorties in the group.  How tall is everyone, I am 5'8".  Am I the tallest here?

Have a great day everyone!!

Kate

Thanks Andee! I'm going to check out that forum.  I'm going to take the day off today.  My foot is really sore which makes me mad cuz I spent a crap load of $$ for these shoes.  I did step in a hole though- thats prolly it.

Kate- You may be the tallest, lol!  I'm only 5'5'' myself.  Thats ok though cuz you'll look thinner than all of us shorties.Sealed

I'm still down to 225lbs- a 1 lb loss.  I'm expecting a huge loss next week.

Have a great day! OH!!! I finally added everyone as a friend (at least I think I got everyone) so my profile doesn't look so sad.  LOL!!!

Hey everyone,

I am a little confused about my burn meter. it says I burn 2540 calories a day with my activity set at sedentary. I then log the exercize that I do. However when I use the calorie calculator it says I should only be consuming 1804 calories per day.

Does this sound right?

Hello Everyone!

I decided to make my first post to introduce myself to this forumn since it seems like such a supportive group of people with constant interactions from what I have read.

Little about me: I joined CC couple months ago but did not seriously start logging in till this Monday...so I officially started being an avid CC logger on Monday! I'm 30 years old, 5'3", weighing at 125 lbs (I was 129lbs on Monday but I think that was major water weight, monthly aunt flow visit, and I weighed myself at night. Plus I just came back from a trip from Japan where I ate ate ate and ate) I would like to loose around 10 lbs.

My weight steadily have been going up and down within the 115~130's in my 20s. Since I turned 30 last July, I have noticed that my stomach as being blowing up every month to the point that I have a belly that rolls over my jeans :( I look okay from the outside but I personally know that I have this belly roll over my jeans and it is time for me to try to loose that fat! I have no children so I cant even justify the roll.

My daily intake says 1200 and the burn meter says 1570. Does this mean I should be taking in less than 1200 to loose weight or should I be taking in 1200 to the dot to maintain? (becuz that's only 370 difference). I know I should be actively working out to up the burn meter(I bike to work for like 20 mins a day in NYC, do yoga 3 times a week..I dont do weights nor run..I should, but I dont) to up the difference btw intake & burn meter rather than eat less than 1200 correct???

I have so much to learn since I am a newbie so I would appreciate any support & motivation!! Nice meeting you all!

Welcome to the group Hysteryck!!  First off, you should not eat less than 1200 cal/day.  Your body will go into starvation mode and you won't loose a thing.  Adding in more fitness will help.  I too do yoga and find it o' so nice.  I want to start doing yoga everyday.  Your biking everyday is good.  Maybe try something else on your off yoga days.  Heather might have a little insight for you too.  Good luck and we are here off and on all day if you need more help.

Kate

Welcome Hysteryck! I agree with Kate. Don't go under 1200 calories unless you've been told to by your dr.  If you're biking every day I wonder if your body is used to it.  On the days you don't do yoga, maybe try some intense cardio with light weights.  Have you ever checked out The Firm?

831Shawn: Your body will need more calories if you are more overweight to maintain.  Is it saying you burn that or is it suggesting you burn that?  I am at 225 and 5'5" so my burn meter is around 3000.  I burn more than that though with exercise.  My suggested cal intake is 1750, but I have found staying around 1500 is better for my weight loss.  Actually I'm thinking about dropping it to 1200 for a week to speed things along.  I read somewhere it takes about 3500 calories to burn 1 pound of fat so I try to burn 3500/day.

So here's a poll for everyone:

What "diet" program, if any are you doing?  And is it working?

Welcome to the group April!!  You can rant, rave, brag, whatever you need in here.  We all do it from time to time.

Jen, the only thing I have been doing is just strickly watching the cals and working out.  I am on a roll with it.  It helps me to have a bit of a plan too.  And thanks to Heather I have managed to up my protein to a good amount.  Lean protein is making lots of wonderful lean muscle.  Laughing

Well thanks fo rthe feedback. I guess I will drop down to 1804 then...but seems a little extreme. I am 6'2" and gym at least 5 days a week and have a fair amount of lean body mass....just that I got the extra too, which I want to lose but feel like I am eating too little with 1800.

Most of my cals come from healthy stuff too...

Good Day Everyone!!!!

Guess what?!?!?!?!?  I got BANGS!!!!  OMG!!!!!  If these don't hide the forehead wrinkles I may have to go under the knife.  LOLOLOL  Just Kidding!!!

Jennifer ~ you are welcome.  When I first started running I took a running class given by a local running store.  There was a walk / run group and there was a guy in there that had to be 350+ so I don't think you can be too big.  I don't know for sure.  I think as long as you don't have pain.  I'm sure you've noticed at the 5Ks that not all the runners are skinny types.  They're just people.  POLL RESPONSE:  I just count calories, and try to get in protein grams equal to half my body weight each day.  If I weigh 100 lbs, I try to eat 50 grams of protein per day (esp on days when I lift weights).

Andee ~ Good running link. . .thanks!

Barbara ~ Congrats on two pounds!!!!! WOO HOO!!!!!

WE ARE A BUNCH OF RUNNERS!!!  OMG!!! I seriously had no idea!  Go Girls!!!  I think it is one of the best ways to burn cals fast.  There are so many good resources out there  for beginning runners. . . . .like Kate said, it is just a matter of getting out there and doing it.

KateI'm 5' 2"  (I'm lying on the internet, I'm really 5' 1 3/4", don't tell anyone -- let them think I'm 5' 2"!!!!!).

Welcome Hysteryck ~  I gotta chime in here . . never less than 1200 is very important like Kate and Jen said.  VERY IMPORTANT.  Sounds to me like you gotta find something you can do to up that deficit.  3500 calories = one pound.  If you're only having a 370 deficit, you're set to lose less than one pound per week = which is great and healthy, but if you want more, you gotta get that deficit up.   Also adding muscle to your frame will help you burn more just sitting in a chair.  When you change the composition of your body from fat to muscle, that muscle is a furnace that burns cals all day.  You ROCK for being here, for taking care of your body and taking the time and the effort to be healthy.  Do what you can, when you can and appreciate yourself for doing it.  Stay with us, check in regularly because we would all love to hear from you!

Welcome April KFL ~ Please chime in often!  The more the merrier.

Hi Shawn, for me personally, I find I need a defict of 1000 calories per day gives me the best results at the end of the week.  That's just me.  I think CC recommends a maximum of 800 deficit per day so this may be bad advice.

Sorry long post!!!!  Did I ever tell y'all I was voted Most Talkative in High School?  LOL  It's true.  Laughing
Heather

Shawn:  If you feel like you're eating too little, then try loading up on lots of FIBER... yum.  Also remember to eat nutrient-rich foods.  Do you drink protein shakes made with water/ice?  This will help you feel fuller longer.  Hang in there.  Good for you for going to the gym 5 days/week.  Keep what Heather said in mind. -Maintain an 800-1000 calorie deficit every day.

Keep us posted on your loss!

Thanks for the support folks. So where I am confused is if the burn meter factors in for weight loss. In other words am I trying to come in 800-1000 calories below what it says on the burn meter? IE the burn meter says 2560 so I should only consume 1760???

Running;

Hey all. OK...now here is the problem. I do weight training 4-5 times per week with 1/2 hour of cardio. I have attempted to go running but find myself horribly...well horrible at it. Any one have suggestions for beginning runner? I have been going to gym 4-5 days a week for over 5 years and I seem to do ok there but then I try to add in jogging and fail miserably.

Shawn, yes.  If you burn 2560, then only eat 1760 (OR 1560).

I eat 1400 per day and burn 2500 on average, some days vary.

That is 1900 I burn if I just wake up that day (no workout) plus a 600 calorie workout.

The little "my home" page says I should / could eat 1550.  I cut that myself down to 1400.

I hope this works for you.

www.RunnersWorld.com is a great resource for new runners.  They even have schedules you can follow for different levels of running including beginner.  I used a training schedule from there for my 15K and it worked beautifully, I was very prepared on race day.  Jeff Galloway is a very popular running coach that believes in RUN-WALK-RUN program.  Here is his 5K training program: http://www.jeffgalloway.com/training/5k.html.  It is very basic, starting you running for only 10-15 minutes.  There may also be running classes at your local running store that can be awesome for accountability and support while taking on something new and unknkown.

Good Luck!
Heather

jen,

Thanks for the fiber idea.....I had forgotten about that since the last time I dieted...Fiber One makes a great cereal 140 cals per cup and it is very filling...

Thanks Fo rthe reminder again!!!!

Thanks everyone for welcoming me with opened arms!!

K8tody, Classymommy, Superheather, Thank you so much for letting me know that it is IMPORTANT for me to consume that 1200 calories, I did not know that. I was going under thinking I was doing something good but now I know that I need to up more of the deficit by exercising. I understand that the body might get used to certain workouts so I will make sure to switch that up here and there. My challenge would be to incorporate certain work outs. Its such a struggle for me to go jogging. I live in the city so I either bike, or walk super fast paced but I guess that doesnt do much for me because my body is used to it huh? Should I log those into my BurnMeter at all even though it is sorta like an everyday routine for me?? Right now my setting is set as sedentary.

I packed the lowest caloried lunch (salad today) but since I found out I need to eat 1200 calories, I was able to go to my favorite chinese restaurant and eat dumplings and still come under (dunno if Chinese food is the best food to be eating but it is coming in within my calorie intake range).

Thanks sooo much for the advices!!

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
