PS: welcome to the group laura  ... we're all pretty cool chiquitas here ... :o)

Hi Laura~ Welcome!  We're glad you're here and look forward to hearing from you and your ups and downs as we all work to reach our goals together.  I started running about a year and a half ago and then ran my first 15K in January this year-- woo hoo!  Let me share with you that running outside waaaayyyyyyy better in my opinion.  Much easier for me -- I love all the distractions of the park you're running in or even inspecting the neighborhood yards if I keep close to home, makes the time fly by.  I am cheering for you.  Keep me posted!

Hey Shawna~ I'm gonna shine up my rear kickin boots if you don't get to feeling better.  I'm thinking of you and sending sunny thoughts your way.

Spring Break Challenge Check In:  60 minutes weight / resistance training with trainer

How're you all doing on SB challenge?

Just popping in to say hello!

Hope everybody's doing well.

Spring break check-in : Went to Jazzercise tonight and went skating also - tough on the legs! :)

We're doing great so far!

Corina

Hello All!!

Shawna, I feel sad to hear about your bad days.  ((((HUGS))))  I am with Heather though.  I will dig in my closet tonight for my booty kick'n boots.  LOL!!  Keep moving forward Babe!!!  Brighter days are to come!!!

I am glad to hear about the SB check-ins.  I haven't been doing that.  I will catch you up.  Walked Sat, Sun, Mon, in gym Tue, walked yesterday.  I will be back in the gym tonight since it is cold again.  I wish I had a treadmill but the outside is so much more refreshing.  I would love to get into running but since I have bad knees I am not so sure I should try it.

Have a great day everyone!!

Kate

Good morning Ladies! I have good news and bad news. The good news is that I did Taebo again last night! The bad news is I weighed this morning and only lost 1 pound in ten days. I don't know whats going on and it is very discouraging.

Please allow me to give a little pep talk.  A loss is a loss.  One lb is great!!  For safe weight loss, we should only be losing 0.5-2 lbs per week.  I know it is discouraging but keep your chin up.  I am actually a little worried about my weigh-in tomorrow morning.  The only thing I can suggest is look back at your last 10 days in your food log.  See if you notice patterns of not such good food to put in your mouth and try to curve it.  I was a hot chocaholic (140 cals) until I started keeping track of my cals.  I miss it but I have found hot tea (0 cals) again.  Keep up the great work that you have been doing and remember a lb is a lb.  Better to loss than gain.  Smile

Oh, I wanted to tell you all of a sweet tooth suggestion I gave on another post.  If you have sweet tooth issues I recommend Kashi GoLean Crunchy! Bars.  I buy a variety box at my local wholesale club and I love them.  They are a good source of fiber and protein.  I have flavors of Chocolate Peanut (180 cals), Chocolate Caramel (150 cals) and Chocolate Almond (170 cals).  They have little rice crispy thingys, popcorn (caramel), nuts (peanut & almond), and other stuff.  Then they are dipped in chocolate on the bottom.  They are so yummy!!  If you type Kashi GoLean Crunchy! into the food browser you will see them to look at all their nutrition info or you can check out www.kashi.com.  Kashi is actually giving out coupons for 1 free frozen entree if you want to try that too.

Have a great afternoon and evening.  I will post my weigh-in results in the morning.

Welcome cncantu~

We would love to have you check in with all of us on a regular basis -- we'll push you if you'll push us and we expect everyone to do LOTS of bragging!!!  lol  Sounds like you are already on the right track.  Good Luck and we look forward to hearing more from you soon.

Mandy, hang in there girlie -- at least the pounds are going down -- you're heading in the right direction.  Remember the tortoise and the hare. . . . . .  Earlier today I was looking at a link that Kate sent us (suite 101) and I came across and article about plateaus and how to carb cycle to break them.  I'm not even in a plateau but thought it was an interesting idea, never heard of it.  I can't decide if it would be hard to do or not. . . . . Here's the article:  http://weightloss.suite101.com/article.cfm/pr event_weight_loss_plateau

I'm at work now listening to radio on line (top 20) and just heard a (new?) song called "That's Not My Name" by the Ting Tings.  It was kinda crackin me up.  They sound like a spunky all girl band from the 80's or something.  Might be good iPod download for workouts.  Reminds me of us : SPUNKY GIRLS!  Makes me giggle a little.

Kate, you rock with links / resources.  Thank you.

Just want everyone to know that I joined weight watchers online today (for 3 months) I want to see how that goes. Anyone been on that plan? And if so, how did it work for you?

i .. myself have not tried weight watcher or anything (mainly to do with money .. and how lil i have of it .. lmao) .. but i do know ppl who have .. and it has helped them ... from what i understand of it .. its very similar to counting cals but they are more structured and go on a points system .. i say good for you ... what ever gives you that extra push .. right (as long as its safe) ...

cheers

shawna

Welcome cncantu!!  We do love to hear bragging hear or at least I do.  I am a big bragger myself.  LOL!!  I hope to be bragging tomorrow morning.

Heather, I am a research nut.  I never was before.  When I was prego, I did so much research I made myself sick.  It has stuck with me.  I actually found Suite101 by accident today.  I also found a thing called Volkssport.  It is a non-competitive international walking/biking group.  If you go to www.ava.org you can find a group near you.  Each group hosts their own walking/biking events.  It sounds pretty cool!!

Mandy, I did WW back in 2002.  I lost about 20-30 lbs with it.  The only reason I quite was I had a very hard time staying in my point range to drop those last few lbs.  I do better with calorie counting for some reason.  I believe that WW may help you to jump start your weight loss.  It is a good program.  I hope it works for you.

Have a great night everyone!!  Rest your ears tonight and get them ready for brag time in the morning!!  lmao!!

Oh yes, I'm excited to give it a good whirl! I've always said (and for people reading this please don't be offended!) that I can't be anorexic because I HAVE to eat or I feel yucky and I can't be bulimec because I will have twelve panic attacks to avoid throwing up as it is.... so here I am! A happy eater that LOVES healthy food just sometimes too much of it...and the occasional cake...or pie....or hamburger...or whatever....but anywho I think I may like weight watchers because I don't have to cut out carbs or this or that and can still indulge a little bit, I'll be reporting back for sure! Oh! and the money part.....I charged it....doh!!!!! Money mouth

And Kate- that's great! That makes me feel better! I did it too back in 2002 and only lost ten pounds but as for what I can remember...I didn't stick with it for very long. I lost a TON on LA weight loss but also lost a TON of MONEY!!! I would NEVER go back there. Those women are trained to rip us off.

Thanks for the motivation gals!

Hey ladies! I just realized that I probably get on the computer about the time you are all done for the day, but . . . oh well.

Heather - We use that song in jazzercise, it is pretty funny but has a great beat.

Mandy - You are doing great - I agree that a pound is a pound and it'll catch up to you sooner or later if you keep at it. WW is a wonderful program. I did it in, um, '99 or so and lost about 25 lbs, most of which I have kept off, so give it a good try!

Shawna - Whattup girl? It's good to hear you're smilin' again. It wasn't the same without ya! :)

Welcome cncantu - we're doing a workout challenge this week, attempting to work out every day, so feel free to brag all about that! :)

I did some yoga today, about 25 minutes worth and a few excercises on my Wii Fit. I got it for my birthday and am really liking it. When I work out a certain amount, I unlock new activities and today I got to do rythmic boxing - so funny! Anyone else Wii?

Corina

hey hey ...

i'm glad to be back and with a smile too boot ... lol ... i wish i had a wii ... maybe one day ... cant get it right now since we wont have the room for it come april ... lol .. i know that sounds funny but .. this construction season we are putting pretty much everything into storage and living via motorhome .. so tight quaters ...

hey corina ... ya never know who will be lurking when ... lmao .. i'm off and on all day depending if i can get the computer away from the b/f ... should have seen him when it crashed ... can we say withdrawl .. hahhaha ... :o) (i know cheeky monkey ... but hey all good) .. glad you're having fun girl ..

cheers

Happy Friday the 13th everyone!!!

Brag time or not so brag time.  Mandy you did better than me this week.  I lost 0.5 lb in my 7 days to your 1 lb in 10 days.  It's all good though.  I had a great workout last night.  Ediets sent me an email yesterday with 3 steps to a healthier you; #1 Nutrition, #2 Cardio, & #3 Weight training.  It followed with about 7 or so free weight exercises that I added 3 more to.  I will tell you what, my legs, back, arms, everything is feeling it.  I didn't know the human body had so many muscles.  LOL!!  I love it!!  Laughing  Is that weird?

Question to you that workout all the time.  I really like the workout I mentioned but I have read that you have to change your workout so your muscles don't get used to the same old thing.  Can I use the same exercises and just change the order I do them or do I have to change the exercises all together?  Can I keep some exercises I am doing now and add different ones?  Basically, what is the best plan of attack?

I hope everyone is doing well.  Have a great day!!

Kate

morning all ...

hope its a beautiful day where you guys are ...

kate ... from my understanding (and honestly i am not an expert), all workouts have the same basics .. but while one is trying to lose weight, one should increase the intensity of the workout a lil more every so often ... ei: if you have been doing 10 jumping jacks now do 15, if you do 10 pushups now do 15, etc ... or add small weights (gets the sameish result) ... hope that helps .. its been working for me

shawna

Hello Ladies and Happy Friday the 13th!  It has been raining in Dallas for three days straight now so it really feels like Friday the 13th here.

Spring Break Challenge:  It sounds like everyone is doing so great with this -- yea us!!!  This morning I got up and went to spin class for my SBC workout.  Tomorrow I am entered in a St. Paddy's Day 5K and that will complete my week / commitment.  If you'll remember I didn't want to give up my Sundays.

Mandy, good luck with WW.  I have tried it, liked it, it is VERY similiar to this site except of course for the points / calories difference.  I just didn't stick with it for whatever reason wasn't for me.  Good Luck!  And keep coming back here and let us know how it goes, okay?

Corina, my Mom got Wii fit for Christmas but they've never hooked it up!!!!  Isn't that terrible?  Santa got it for her but my parents have only bowled, played tennis, games, etc.  LOL  That's an awesome birthday gift and sounds like a fun set up if you unlock new activities.  Rythmic boxing sounds interesting. . . .  I'm glad you know that song!  That's funny.  Now I'll think of you JazzerSteppin, etc when I hear it!

Shawna ~ so glad you're back in full force!  Smile

Kate ~ your little girl is such a cutie.  I want to pinch those little cheeks of hers.  I heart your photo!  Half a pound is AWWWWEEEEEESOME!  I'm glad you're keeping your spirits up.  I think attitude is so much of it.  About changing your workout, here's what I think:  First you do what you can, what you're in the mood for.  The same ole workout is better than no workout.  It's still calorie burn, right?  Changing the order you do sets in I do not see how that would do anything.  That being said, I've been with a personal trainer for two years (anniversary 3/28, I can't believe it, just did it) and my weight training is different in that I started out doing bicep curls, now I do them standing on one leg on top of the Bosu (a ball type thing that makes you unstable / unbalanced) so that I'm incorporating core strength.  Just little tweeks, different, more advanced ways of doing exercises to incorporate more muscles or come at the same muscle from a different angle.  I still have sore muscles often from lifting weights.  We've also increased weight for some exercises, but mostly kept it low weights.  You can also increase number of reps.  You see what I'm saying?  I think all of these small changes can help.  I've never been stale with cardio because I think I secretly hate it (shhhhhhh! don't tell me, i might quit doing it).  Right now I'm ready to quit running (again) and I think I'm going to try and get back into spinning.  Whoa!  Sorry this is so long - I hope some part of it is helpful to you.  Do you know about interval training?  That is also pretty darn effective.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Heather
