Looking for clarification - calorie target

I seem to be able to find 2 calorie amounts.  One on my account page, my daily goal, and the other under Tools, Calorie Target, which is about 400 less than the daily goal amount.  Which one should I aim for?  Also, how do I know the MINIMUM amount of calories I should be aiming for?

My understanding is that the calorie amount on the Daily Goal is the number of calories you can eat daily to maintain your weight as measured against the calories you typically burn daily. The number calculated in Tools is actually the total to consume daily to lose weight. That's why it's lower than the Account Page number.

If anyone else has a different take on this I'd love to hear it.
