Looking for encouragement - you support me and I will do my best to do the same for you!

I am in need of some good, HONEST buddies who will tell me like it is.  Tell me what I am doing wrong and encourage me to keep going.

I am on the older side to have started a new, healthier life style so need someone who can understand where I am coming from at the age of 67.

Let me back track and tell you a little about myself – I am a 67 year old (as of tomorrow – Happy Birthday to me) female, married, with three gorgeously successful daughters.

July, 2006, one of my daughters convinced me to start working with a trainer – I must point out that “working out” was completely new to me – I had NEVER been athletic or active except for being the very best mom I could be – therefore, my family came first and there was never any time for me.  To date I have lost over 120 pounds with 40 more to go until my imaginary goal.  It is a LONG, emotional hard road!  Anyone around my age can relate to the mental struggle – in my era if you wanted to lose weight we were told “just don’t eat” so now that I have lost the majority of my weight I am having a very difficult time eating enough calories – because for the first time in my life I can control what I put in my mouth and I enjoy the control.  But, it has slowed my weight loss tremendously.  I work out quite rigorously 1 to 2 hours a day.  I have come so far and yet feel the finish line is impossible to reach.  I feel real good about my numbers until I look in the mirror – I see my old self looking back at me – I do not see the body minus the 120 pounds and over 100 inches lost!  I need someone to understand and push my butt to lose this last weight and of course I want it NOW!  I will be more than happy to be a buddy right back and give you all the support I can but mainly I will just listen when you want to vent!

Hey there

I am Irene, from Toronto Canada...somewhat a new member.  I am very impressed and proud of you already for your amazing weight loss, - we all know how hard it is at any age.

I am trying too, also just quit smoking so i have alot in front of me at the present moment.  My goal is to lose about 50lbs..currently about 195lbs, and want to get down to about 145....

Anyway just wanted to write a few lines to touch base

Keep smiling

Irene

What an achievement and 1-2 hours excercise to boot. You need to look in the mirror and be kinder to yourself you have obviously worked hard to loose so much and will manage to loose the rest.

My story is that until I had my 1st child I weighed 126lbs.  sadly I lost my little boy to cot death and the weight piled on as I ate to assuge the grief. 8 years later I weighed 220lbs had another beutiful son and hated the way I looked.  when my son went to school I didnt want him to be bullied because he had a fat mum and managed to loose 87lb by calorie counting and attending a weight loss group, to reach a goal of 133lbs.  I was on top of the world and maintained my weight until I remarried and had two more beutiful children.  As the years have progressed I have learned to live with depression and have dealt with it by eating chocolate (in private mostly) until I reached the heaviest I have ever been at 262lbs on 20 May 2009. On 21 May I decided enough was enough and started a food diary and lost 3lb in a week.  On 28 May I found this site and started logging food intake and activity online.

I am a 56 year old mother of 4 with a new grandson and have the will to make it happen this time.  It would be great to have someone to discuss my efforts with rather than bore those around me who dont have the problem I have and therefore do not understand.

Good luck you know you can do it.

Thank you so much for your post.  We already have a unique connection in that you stated May 20th was your day of lifestyle change and that same day was my birthday so - I will be here for you.  I will encourage when needed, listen always, and scold when fitting.  It is a long difficult road  - the difficult part is the mental game our brain can play with us.  The easy part is the calorie count and portion control - so start there and add in the exercise.

My grandson turned two yesterday - an added incentive to get my life in shape.  I love having him right beside me as I do my pushups.

Let's chat often!  It will be great hearing how you are doing and what you are doing.  Today is my abs and cardio day so will be off to the gym.

Hang in there and please - if I can give any advice just let me know what the struggle is and I will do my best to help.  Nice meeting you
