Hi cherrieaz,

I'm 47 years young and I also want to lose about 40 lbs.  I'm 5'1 1/2".  I like it that you include the 1/2 too.  :)     I've been doing Calorie count since March 14 and I've lost about 12 lbs and I just stay right around there.  I started out at 171 and I'm down to 159, but that's it.  I know I need to do something different now, but I haven't quite figured out what.  Any suggestions?  How long have you been doing this?

Mary

Hi Mary,

Thanks for your reply!

I started on Mar 31. I've lost about 14 lbs. I'm not exactly sure since I don't like to weigh myself to often. I have a sit down job so I don't get a lot of exercise.  I am on 1200 calories a day. I seem to be losing almost 2lbs or a little less a week. I log almost everything I eat and I try to keep most of what I eat in the A & B grade, some C's. Today I was able to wear a pair of jeans that I havn't had on since last summer. So I am real excited about that. It is always good when we see some process, that keeps us motivated to loss more.

I think you are doing great with losing 12lbs. I notice when I didn't feel I was losing for a few days, I would eat a little more for 1 or 2 days and then go back to the 1200 Cal's. This seemed to trigger me losing again.

Good luck to you and keep up the good work!

Cherrie

Good luck to you too, Cherrie,

14 lbs is good.  I haven't lost anything for about a month maybe.  The clothes are fitting better though.  Congratulations on fitting in those jeans.  Yes, if I don't see progress, I get frustrated which is where I am now.  I have a desk job too.  I'll write tomorrow.  Gotta go watch American Idol!

Mary

I am a 55 year old female 5' 3 1/2" at 179lbs .... Lost about 7 lbs since starting here on Apr 13. Plateau for last two weeks. and thats always discouraging. Havent lost enough weight for anyone but me to notice and my clothes still fit about the same but I am less uncomfortable around the middle and bust. Really want to lose big time maybe down to 130 if I still can. Need buddies too.

Looking forward to chatting and supporting the two of you.

Good luck!

Anucha

We are really close in goals. I started about two weeks before you. In the past couple of weeks is when I have noticed I lost. So hang in there! How many calorie have you been eating per day, mine is 1200. I also look forward to chatting and supporting each other.

My name is Cherrie

I am trying to stay at 1250 per day. I also have a sedentary job so I dont even bother to log in exercise. I supposedly burn 1770 or so per day just existing. I will hang in there but it sure gets harder when nothing seems to be happening for a while -

Hi Everyone,

I am 50 yrs old and been on CC.com since Jan 5.  I am 5'9" and currently weigh 171, but my starting weight was 193.  I hope to loose another 10 to 15 pounds.  Loosing weight isn't nearly as easy as it used to be, I have discovered.  I too have a desk job and eat between 1200 - 1300 calories Monday thru Friday. Weekends, I eat what I please, in moderation.  About two months ago I started the Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds workouts and I love them.  This is amazing since I am a die-hard couch potato since childhood.  They have really made the difference in both my appearance and attitude and I can't believe that there is actually an exercise out there that I enjoy, didn't think such a thing existed.

Best of luck to you all.  Hope to chat with you again.

Cheryl

Hi Cheryl

I just read your email. This is a great site! How are you doing so far? I have lost a total of 16 pounds so far.

Hope to hear back from you. I am going to add you as a friend.

Hi Everyone, I too am looking for friends,  encouragement, motivation and advice to help in this lifestyle change. I am 45 years old, 5'2 and weigh 163. I am trying to get to 130-135 by January 1, 2009.  I have a sedentary job however I do walk 90 minutes, 5 days a week on the treadmill each evening where I am logging in about 400 -500 calories.

I want to share with you that I too have found a new love: Wii walking. I used to run vigorously 5-7 miles per day but have recently shifted to walking. Its so much easier on my joints.  I recently acquired a WII and have an instant partner to encourage me to move. So I am having fun again challenging myself to get off of the couch.

Hope to chat with anyone that is willing to respond:}.

Hi free_style

I didn't know wii had a walking program! I just may have to buy one. My sister has a wii and I have done the bowling, which is a lot of fun. I will add you as a friend, email me anytime. The more motivation we have the better!Smile

Hey Cheryl,

Thanks for writing back and putting me on your friend list. The Wii just recently released the Wii Fit which has all these cool programs to help get you active. Check this out. You know when you begin the game, you create a character. After purchasing the Wii Fit, there's a built in scale that adjusted my character to reflect my "true" characteristics to help me in my lifestyle change. It was funny when it occurred and its okay because it motivates me to pay attention to me.

How was your day today? Did you get off the couch?

Hi Ladies,

As of last Saturday, I am down 23.5 lbs.  This since January.  It has been a slow process but this time I am making lifestyle changes instead of just dieting.  I am in this for the long haul.  I also have a sedentary job but constantly look for excuses to get up from the desk.  Amazingly, I have discovered that I am more productive when I move around than I am when I just sit at my computer without any breaks.

I have been thinking of buying a wii for some time.  Our local Wal Mart sells out of them as fast as they come in.  I have never like exercise, would much rather be reading a book, but I have discovered the Leslie Sansone - Walk Away the Pounds dvds and I love them.  I did a 50 minute/4 mile walk in my living room last night.  I have so much more energy since starting this program.  Anything that gets us moving, is a good thing.

Have a great day everyone.   Cheryl

Hi everybody,

I would like to join, really need motivation and support. I will be 41 in July, i am 5"5 ,148 and want to go down to 135 - 136 pounds. I am eating 1200 - 1300 calories a day. I  am light activity, walk during the lunch time and go to the gym 3 - 4 times a week doing cardio and strength training. I started on May 8 but at first selected wrong activity level and was eating too many calories. So, i corrected this a week ago, didn't loose any weight yet.  How did you start? How soon did you start loosing weight?

Leila

Hello Ladies,

I'm 41 years old and am having a hard time losing weight. I started at 181 (Feb. 5th 2008) 5'4" and currently weigh 172.2. I have hardly lost anything. It's been so hard. I'm starting to lose hope. I've said, "no thank you" more times than I can count only to be let down by the scale for resisting the temptations.

I could really use some support.

deamarie,

What are you saying? You lost 9 pounds. That's a good start. There's a lot of useful information on this site that you may find helpful along with some encouragement. It sounds like you have hit a plateau and have to do a little more tweaking.

I am new to this site and can't really point you to any directions. I need support and advice to because I don't know if what I am doing is all together going to get me to my idea weight of 130 pounds. But I do intend to keep having fun trying.

You know you don't have to say no to everything, anything can be eaten in moderation. Good luck.

free style,

Yes, I have lost 9 lbs, but that's are really slow start. I have asked for and received a ton of help. I have zig-zagged my calories adjusted work outs (not my most ambitious area but I move).

At times it just gets to be too much. So much work for so little reward. Everything is a calorie loss or gained. I even brused my teeth standing on one foot to burn an extra calorie or two.

Yet, here I am, trying to make life changes. I have made some significant adjustments that I am proud of, but have a long way to go. I too want to be 140 lbs.

I'm 5'4", 43 and 179 lbs. I am aiming to lose around 40 more pounds.

I started here on CC at 215 pounds in January, so I've lost 36 pounds so far. I have lost an average of around 1.5 pounds a week.

My next mini-goal is to get my BMI under 30, so that I will technically be "overweight" instead of "obese." I know it's just a word, but it will be a mental victory for me.

Two things to think about for those of you who are unhappy with the speed at which you are losing:

(1) any loss is better than where you were before. I count any week in which I don't GAIN weight as a good week. Seriously. There were so many years of gradually gaining the weight, I don't expect to be able to lose it overnight. And while I want faster progress (I am human after all) I also really to enjoy the small improvements.

(2) I know this sounds crazy, but are you sure you're eating ENOUGH? Over YEARS of various forms of dieting, I can say with complete honesty that I have more steady progress and less frustration when I eat closer to 1500 calories than when I eat 1000 calories. It seems counter-intuitive, but for me, it works. You should never eat less then 1200 calories, and you should never run a deficit of more than 1000 calories a day. Many people say you should never eat under your BMR. If you don't know these numbers for yourself, try this site. At the very bottom of the analysis page, once you click on "update" there are two BMR numbers. Most people use the Harris Benedict formula. Personally, I use the lower Mifflin St Jeor formula.

Hi everybody,

I think that it's great start to be able to loose 9 pounds, Dearmarie. You shouldn't loose hope. I think that you maybe should adjust your calories first of all, because you lost weight. Did you do that? Maybe you should also add some more exercising. I am new here too, i just started on May 8 but it took me couple weeks to figure it out how the website works with the calories and burn meter.  And i agree with Luvtravelling, it's good that you didn't gain any weight back. So, just keep doing what you were doing during last months. It will start working again for you.

That's increadible result, Luvtravelling, 36 pounds!!! Wow! Congratulations!
