I'm 5'4" 206lbs.  I'm 41years old and 40lbs away from my ultimate goal.  I'm starting to think about how to maintain my new me.  It's been a 3 year journey and will be a total 130 lbs. lost.  If anyone has suggestions on the amount of calories I should take in, how often I should workout or any suggestions on how to go from diet mode to maintaing mode.  All suggestions welcome.

I eat 1550 cal daily and workout 1hour a day 6 days a week.  My workout is 30min strength training and 30min treadmill, stairmaster or eliptical machine.  I'm wondering do I continue to eat 1550 cal but workout only 3 days a week?

Are you wanting to maintain NOW?  Or later?

If it is later then things may change a bit (you need less food to maintain if you are smaller in weight).

If you want to maintain now you could either look up charts on what net calories to eat to maintain or you can add calories back in gradually (or do less exercise as you suggested).

You can sort of work out how much of a calorie deficit you are in at the moment by working out how much weight you are losing.

To lose a pound a week then you must be in a calorie deficit of approx 3500 for the week.  So you would be eating 500 less calories per day than you body needs.  (This is keeping exercise as a constant).

So, if you WERE losing a pound a week still then you could add back in the 500 calories a day and keep doing the same exercise and maintain (theoretically!!).  OR you could add back less calories and do less exercise.

But if I were you (I was you, sort of), I'd just experiment a bit and add back in 100 or so calories a day for a week or even a month and see what happens.  I found that my monthly weight fluctuations were such that I couldn't rely on a week to week weight - I had to do it at same time every month.

I have set April 2008 as a stop dieting and start maintaining.  I don't really have a number on the scale as a goal.  I have pretty much reached all my goals.  I live a more active life, I am maintaining a healthy diet (and loving it) and I can shop in the misses department.  That last goal is what I'm working on now.  I can shop there for somethings but not everything.  I want to be able to go to the store and buy the styles I want to wear and have them fit.
