Looking for Help with Specific Shoulder Pain
Was wondering if anyone might know what is causing significant shoulder pain. I am basically down to just a couple of excersizes I am able to do in the gym and need some help.
When I do any sort of Peck Fly, sitting press, wide position pull-ups - I have intense pain on the inside/top of my left shoulder. I can do normal pushups, pullups and a machine where I reach high and pull down a cable system with no pain. To give an example, I used to be able to do about 110lb peck fly and now I can't even do even 30 lbs on the one side.
Assuming someone will say - "well just don't do those ones that hurt..." I'm just looking for some insight.
Well that sounds like it's around the area of the rotator cuff, so it would probably be worth getting checked out by a doctor. The rotator cuff is not something you want to mess around with.
Yeah, when the rotator cuff goes you can get inflammation of the tendons that run inside the shoulder and across the top of humerus. You'll probably have to take it easy and get rid of the inflammation (ice, ibuprofen) and then do a bunch of physio techniques to strengthen your rotator cuff muscles. Physiotherapists deal with this all the time, so try to make an apointment with one as soon as possible.
Don't try to push through the pain or self-treat because it can lead to scarring of the tendons inside the shoulder, which decreases the amount of space they have to move within and makes it easier for them to get inflamed again. You don't want this to become a chronic condition.
It could be rotator cuff. You should definitely get it checked out. Most rotator cuff injuries won't heal on their own.
I had rotator cuff surgery over a year ago. It's no fun, and takes a long time to heal, but it was worth it for me.
But then my pain was getting so that it would wake me up in the middle of the night if I rolled over... and so many things I could not do without pain.
I agree it sounds like rotator cuff muscle issues. Can you remember any specific incident such as doing peck flys with a lot of weight, after which it started hurting. I sprained my subscapularis last year kayaking and the nature of the pain you describe sounds pretty much what I was experiencing. For me, I only had to go through about 10 sessions of PT to get pretty far along but it did take about 10 months total before it was completely ok. Good Luck.
Sounds like a rotator cuff tear to me, too. I had an injury like this several years ago. I decided to "tough it out". I recently had an MRI of my shoulder which showed a large rotator cuff tear. The problem is, so much time has passed that the rotator cuff tissue has shrunk and there is no possibllility of repair. I continue with chronic pain. GET IT CHECKED OUT SOON!
I agree with everyone--sounds like a rotator cuff problem. You should get it checked out straight away because it CAN get too bad to fix. I hope you feel better.
Just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for the repsonses. I typically NEVER schedule a Dr. appointment but have decided to do so.
Thanks again.
