looking for lunch ideas

I'm working at a dunkin donuts, and we don't have a microwave! Ive been bringing salads and sandwiches for the past few weeks, but i'm starting to get bored with them.

Does anyone have any lunch idea that can be eaten cold?

bean salads are good.  If you use a variety of crunchy vegetables in with the beans it's a well balanced meal.  If you use fat free dressing, it's lower in calories.

Invest in a thermos this way you can bring other things from home just heat em up before you leave for work and they will be good and ready for ya by lunch time.

Cold soups like gazpacho or cucumber soup? Cold pizza - if you can make a healthy version. If you don't mind cold refried beans, you could do a bean burrito with some salsa and low fat cheese.

Sometimes just making your salads different can offer variety. If your used to romaine lettuce, try spinach with hard boiled eggs, turkey bacon, tomatoes and low fat cheddar. Or a broccoli & cauliflower salad with low fat mayo, cheese, etc. Blanched green beans and asparagus make good salads with just some olive oil & vinegar, salt & pepper.

Maybe make wraps instead of sandwiches with bread to change things up. Or use pita bread with egg salad or hummus.

Hope that helps!

I second the idea of bringing a thermos...it opens up a whole lot of hot lunch possibilities. I send DD to school with homemade chicken noodle soup, minestrone...pastas...beans and rice

Cold lunch ideas:

  • veggies with hummus or tzatziki and whole wheat pita
  • quiches or frittatas can be eaten hot/cold
  • savoury muffins to go with the salad/veggies instead of your usual sandwich

HTH :)

Thanks guys for all of your ideas; they were really helpful.

I think the thermos idea is a good one, does anyone know where to get a good thermos?
You could find a decent thermos at Wal Mart or maybe even a grocery store.  But if you want to spend some money on a really good one... try any store that sells camping and outdoor gear!

I pack my lunch every day with no microwave.  We do have a fridge though.  So any fruit can come with me.  I cut it before work and store it in the fridge or keep it in my shoulder bag if its an apple or banana.

I bring sandwiches!  Wraps!  Granola/protein bars etc.
