Looking for meatless tuna!

Quote  |  Reply
Ya meatless tuna. I believe it is called Tuno. I used to get another product frozen. It look like fish filets in rectangular blocks. I do not remember the brand. It work so well for making "tuna" sandwhiches. I was told this other product, Tuno, is pretty good but can't find it.

Dying for a "tuna" melt on sourdough!

If you know of any 7th Day Adventists organization, they will probably carry it. I live in NY and there is one not terribly far away, and yes according to my husband the carnivore he says it tastes just like tuna and it doesn't give him heartburn. We have made tuno melts and they are quite good. Be careful about the chemicals that have been used in making this product - health vs. taste.
I believe Worthington brand carries a "tuna" product.  Never tried it though.

good luck.

love, Karen
ahh, tuno...I think there was some discussion on this over at vegan lunch box. Let me find it:

Scroll down to Monday, April 17th. The conclusion seems to be that tuno is OK, if you rinse it well and drain before use. Where to find it remains a mystery...

A really good subsitute (which I think this was discussed on VLB as well...) is smashed chickpeas with mayo.  It is so good I want to eat a sandwich right now!  Maybe for lunch tomorrow......  And I assure you, it tastes like tuna, because I've done a taste comparison.  (I'm a "flexitarian")
I've never heard of Tuno, sorry I can't help there, but...

Another good alternative - Carrot Tahini sandwiches.  It's about 2 finely grated carrots, mixed with a few tablespoons of tahini, a tablespoon of nutritional yeast, some salt and pepper, and a tablespoon of fake sour cream if you have it ... if not, it works fine without.  (I have never used it).  You spread it on bread and it looks kinda like tuna.  Tastes really good not at all what you'd imagine.
