Looking for members with similar goals- need friends/encouragement.
I'm probably different from quite a few of the people who have joined this site.
I'm seventeen years old, about 5'9", and 138 lbs.
I joined a while back, but gave up after a while. This is my second time joining, and I've lost three pounds in three days.
I'm looking for advice/encouragement and people to talk to. I feel isolated, not knowing anybody on the site and not really having a support network. To be absolutely brutally honest, the teen group on here isn't exactly hopping, and I generally have a higher level of maturity than others of my age group, not to sound condescending.
I'm looking to TONE UP! Getting to 125/130 lbs would be great, but what I really want to do is to tone up and be more physically capable.
I have had eating problems in the past- anorexic/bulimic tendencies, but I am getting over those really well and eating healthy amounts of foods.
I'm a vegetarian, and I take supplements and try to get in as much protein as needed, though it's definitely not enough, and hard to do, living with a family that eats meat and doesn't really understand.
I have dysautonomia, a condition that hinders my ability to do really high impact exercise.
I exercise daily. Billy Blanks is a HUGE favorite of mine, I'm already seeing results in my shoulders/arms from Tae bo. I also have Jillian Michael's 30 day shred. I need more suggestions for good cardio videos. c:
I jog/power walk frequently. My work out schedule generally is:
Monday: A video or two.
Tuesday: Watch the Biggest Loser while on the treadmill, so about 1 hr of running and 1 hr of slower walking.
Wednesday: Top Chef and America's Next Top Model on the Treadmill, 2 hrs.
Thursday: Hell's Kitchen on treadmill, 1 hr.
Friday, Saturday, Sunday: Various videos, taebo/bootcamp/shred. Varying treadmill times.
I can't do too much on the treadmill or I'll pass out- part of my condition. What I tend to do is 2 minutes at 4.5 mph and then 2 minutes at 4 mph, alternating and sometimes going faster or slower as needed. I'm always at a 5 incline to work harder.
So essentially I'm looking for some advice from those around the forums, you all know so much from being here for so long. c: Sorry for writing so much about me, but I feel it was necessary to get a bigger picture of what I do, and I want to improve myself as much as possible in a safe and healthy way.
Thank you so much! I hope to find at least a few people in a similar situation as I am.
Hey! My advice for you is to learn how to cook, and eat properly.
Here's some things to remember, considering that you're a vegetarian.
-Make sure you eat greens every day to boost your iron intake. This can include lettuce, spinach, kale, collard green, swiss chard, broccoli, asparagus, ect.
- Eat beans or legumes every day to boost your protein intake. Ie: Beans, chickpeas or lentils.
-Eat nutritious whole grains. Ie: Whole grain rice, oatmeal, couscous and quinoa.
If you're trying to lose weight, make sure you eat less than 200 g of carbs, otherwise your body won't burn the fat, even if you are not taking in many calories.
Thanks for the advice! I do know how to cook some pretty good tofu and tempeh, the problem is just getting the resources. I'm slowly getting my family to have more vegetarian healthy meals with me.
I have tons of spinach and broccoli as well as chickpeas, probably my favorite foods.
The only grains that I eat are whole grains. I usually look for the certified whole grain stamp. Quinoa is one of my all time favorite foods.
And thanks for the carb advice, I had no clue about that and I'll keep it in mind. <3
Being vegetarian has been so much better for me than being vegan (I was for three months), and I was so malnourished I passed out many times. :/ At least now I'm more knowledgeable about proper things to eat. I also take a vegetarian specific vitamin supplement every day.
You had no clue about the carb advice because it isn't true. Most people on this site lose weight without a problem while eating more than 200 g of carbohydrates a day. I certainly do, and I've lost over 20 pounds. It's the number of calories you eat, not the number of carbs, and while you certainly need to make sure you have enough protein and fat in your diet, and it's best to eat whole grains, fruits, vegetables and legumes rather than refined grains and sugar, the foods that tend to pack the most vitamins, minerals and antioxidants also tend to have carbohydrates. And a vegetarian (especially a teen who doesn't need to lose weight) should certainly be getting more than 200 g of carbohydrates a day.
/sighs.
I guess this is one thing that frustrates me, there is so much conflicting advice out there, especially just in these forums, where people are throwing out differentiating opinions and advice every which way, I'm not sure of what to take in and what to ignore.
Thanks for the input, though!
your bmi is 20.
You do not need to lose weight. You are already at the low end of the healthy scale.
