Looking for motivators
Hi all,
I am new to this site ( been here a week ) .. using the calorie target on here I lost about 5 lbs my first week.
Currently I am at 258 and would like to get down to 200 by sometime close to end of the year.
I'm 37 years old, and 6'2 .. all the "experts" say that I need to be down in the 150 - 190 range.. I figure 200 is close enough to start with and then I'll determine from there if I need to push it lower.
5 years ago I was over 300 lbs and used a combination of south beach diet, and exercise to get down to 215, but then went through a divorce and just quit caring.. found myself back up around 260.
Right now I am only counting calories and TRYING to make healthier choices, however with working 3rd shift it can be difficult at times.
Anyone else in the same boat, or at least willing to kick me every once in awhile and make sure I stay on track ?
Thanks
Greg ( Night Dragon )
I hear ya! I went through a divorce, went on anti depressants (am now off) and gained 80 lbs!
I've just recently started too. I've lost 8 lbs so far. And I love this website, it's great. Everyone is friendly!
Good luck to you!
Thanks Chrissy! Good luck to you too.. I'm looking forward to working on this
I'm finding alot of good info on this website, and by reading through the forums
The forums are always a great place to pick up tips and ask questions and get tons of information!
Good luck to you! :)
To stay on track just remember WHY your doing it, and ALLLLLLLL the wonderful benefits of being HEALTHY!
:) SMILE!
you can count on me for a kick every now and again...
Seriously though, I have a little more to lose than you but am doing the same thing, counting calories and just generally focusing on being healthier.
Definitely wish you good luck...

Dear Night Dragon,
I read your email and I can sympathize with you about the weight gain. I was a size 6 in 2003 maybe 125 pounds. I then went through breast cancer, mastectomy, chemo, radiaiton and reconstruction surgery. Over the last 5 years I have gained 40 to 50 pounds. Partly due to the steriods they gave me and partly due to the medicine they have me on now to keep the cancer away.
I was working out at Curves for a while and then had to quite that due to a brain surgery operaiton I had to have for an anerysm. They keep their eye on me now every 6 months checking my brain. I have not worked out in a year and a half and finally thought I have to do something. My husband and I bought a treadmill because I can walk. I have been faithfully walking for a month now every day and I have lost 10 pounds. I am so excited about the 10 lbs that I feel guilty now if I have a day that I can't walk. I have to tell you that the exercise really helps and drink plenty of water. Dr. Oz on the Oprah show says that we need at least six 8 ounce glasses a day. Also I JUST HAD A CHECK UP AT THE DOCTOR FOR MY CHOLESTEROL AND THE DOCTOR TOLD ME TO LOSE IT SLOWLY BECAUSE IF YOU LOSE IT TOO FAST IT WILL JUST COME RIGHT BACK ON.
KEEP TRYING TO MAKE GOOD CHOICES AND YOU WILL SUCCEED. I HAVE BEEN KEEPING CELERY IN A TUPPERWARE CONTIANER AT HOME INTHE FRIG AND AT WORK BECAUSE IT IS SO LOW CAL AND REALLY DOES SATISFY. MAYBE PUT A LITTLE BIT OF LOW FAT PEANUTBUTTER ON IT FOR THE PROTIEN. NOT TOO MUCH. ALSO SWEET CHEERIES (FRESHJ) ARE LOW IN CALORIES AND REALLY GOOD FOR YOU. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

Hey Greg!
I'm always good to give someone a kick in the pants now and then :) I read journals randomly and do it to people - just ask the people on my friend's lists!
Of course, part of motivation is sending a happy message when someone is having a bad day too!
I can be contacted by MSN and GTalk, if you're interested - PM me and we'll figure it out!
Good luck!
Yes, it's true. Divorce can make you fat. Happened to me, too!
I have been using this site for about two months. I have lost about 12 pounds and have about 12 more to go. As I have seen some success, it has really increased my motivation. I"m losing more slowly now, but I still get excited when I get to put a lower number in that weight log. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it has gotten easier for me. In the past, I would do great on a diet for a while, then lose motivation and end up gaining back the weight, plus a little more.
I love seeing the exact calories for everything! Even when I have messed up and had a piece of pizza or a couple of beers, you can see exactly how big the mistake is, then you can compensate for it over the next few days. In the past, if I messed up, I'd think, Oh well, I already blew it so I might as well eat the rest of the pizza, too.
I'm getting close to age 50, and I have lots of family history of heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer, you name it. That's also a strong motivator! Healthy diet - healthy life. I HOPE!
Divorced, yes. But I will love again. And that starts with loving myself. Hope you find health and happiness!
Where can I see 1/8th or 1/6th of a pie or angel food cake?
This is the best way to picture a portion of pie or cake: Draw a circle to represent the circumference of the cake or pie (9" pie? 10" cake?... Read more
