Just looking for some opinions!

I have been faced with a decision that is KILLING me.  Ok, it's not that bad, but I don't know what to do and would like to hear what some others think!

Here's the deal...I have a ton of stuff going on right now.  I'm dealing with some eating problems (and going to a therapist for them), trying to get a job, taking online classes away from school, and I am in classes that really do give good (by good, I mean BIG) loads of homework daily that really stress me out (to the point of tears and scattered thinking).

As of now, I do not NEED to take my math class to graduate.  I took it first semester, but now we are getting second semester schedules set up and I have the opportunity to drop it.  I have been thinking since I don't NEED that credit to graduate, it might be a good idea to drop it second semester so I have more time for the other things I have going on.

I requested it, and in order to get a year-long core class dropped, you have to meet with the AP and get it approved after you get all of the required signatures.  I met with the AP today, and she said she really doesn't think I should drop math.  She said if I really want to, she will approve it, but she doesn't recommend it.

The thing is, I will be going to a CC for a couple years before I transfer to a larger one, so I will have time to get all of the math credits required to switch over.  Also, I have taken the placement tests and already made it into the highest math class available without going for a math major.

I just don't know what to do!  I don't want to stop taking it and forget everything, or have it come back to bite me later.  At the same time, I'm kind of thinking it would help me out if I did drop it...as that class gives TONS of homework and has lots of stressful tests!

What would you do/recommend that I do??  Is there anything I might not be thinking about?

Thanks for taking the time to read ALL that! haha =P

I say if you think its going to hurt either your recovery OR your grades in other classes, drop it.

If you do drop it, make sure to take at least one math class a year in college until you're done.  Because math is one of those things that you will put to the back of your mind unless you're using it.

Hello there,

Obviously math is a strength of yours, and you are good at it.  Not very many females are, so you are blessed with that.:-)  With me math is a "use it or lose it" situation, so my initial feeling is that you need to continue with it.

However, having said that, it kind of depends on what degree you want at the end of all this?? If its anything with the sciences, medicine, or business..then stick with the math.  If its more arts orientated, then you can probably let go of the math.  But if you are undecided or waffling, then stick with it.

Math does open a ton of doors and gives you loads more options then say "English". But I do know it takes a load of homework to get thru the classes.

Have not really helped you but I hope I might have shed some light on what to think about.:-)

Good luck

Al.

I'd say drop it for sure. The only reason you need math the last year of highschool is because it looks good on college applications. If you are SURE that you're going to a community college then drop it to diminish some stress, if you are still thinking of applying to universities then I'd stick it out in the AP class.
Wow I just had to check and see if I put what I'm going for in my profile...I have been going between law, medicine, and business (I haven't decided..which is why the CC comes first so the debt doesn't get too high WHILE I'm deciding!)

Almost all parts of school come easily to me..but English and Art are my WORST subjects ever.  I don't think I have much of an imagination =P  To this point, I've managed to maintain a 4.0 so I'm pretty darn happy! And I'd really like to keep it! haha

But, if I WERE to drop math right now I would definitely pick it up next year FIRST THING!  So I would only be taking a semester off.

Another thing that came to mind that I forgot to put up there...if I waited until college to do this class, I could get college credit for it.  By doing it now I'm not getting any credit (besides high school which I don't need anymore).

Just thought I'd throw that out there too =)

1 semester off isn't that bad, you shouldn't forget too much...also taking it in college for a college credit is nice too.

Based on that, and how stressed you are, I would say it would be ok to drop it.

Thank you everyone for your input, by the way!

I just talked to my parents about it again and they said it seems like if I don't drop it, I will lose my sanity so...it's looking like I'll be dropping it.

I do plan on researching math and stuff on my own though, just not being in a class.  Yeah...I seriously do stuff like that =P haha

My 2 cents.

Drop the class.

Grab the text you just finished (if it's the school's copy, look at textbooks.com for the same text).  Get a copy of the text for the next class.  When you have time, review just a few problems from your old text and read a bit of the next text.  Definitely wait until you get the college credit for it as you will not want to repeat the same course.

CC is a great way to go while making up your mind.  The general ed units can be done for next to nothing and you can even get one or two associate's degrees which should get you a better part time job while you finish the bachelor's.

Thank you smwhipple, you just made me feel a whole lot better!
