Looking for people that are not easily offended to talk fitness.

Quote  |  Reply

I am crass, tactless, completely insensitive, and find myself constantly insulting people without intention. Therefore, I would like to start a group for people like me, if there are any, who can help motivate/ get motivated without getting angry when I say something completely inappropriate. I promise to conform to the basic guidelines as set out by our wonderful mediators, but I can't promise I won't encourage discussions about sex, politics, and any other such drama-starters.

In short, I know that somewhere, over the rainbow, poorly motivated sarcastic wiseguys like myself are looking for a kick in the pants, and I'm here for you friends. Let me kick you in the pants. (Metaphorically of course)

LOL Well, Im not easily offended by sex or politics.   Im extreamly sarcastic myself and though, I do rarely offend the person, Im suppose to have offended, I offend other people who think the person I was talking to should have been offended.  LOL

So Im in.

I appreciate your honesty lady, and I appreciate your sarcasm. I do solemnly swear *Hand on heart* that I will not read into your comments and pick them apart in a sad attempt to accuse you  of meaning anything other than exactly what you said.

I've been known to be sarcastic on occasions, but it's rare. I'm also not easily offended by taboo subjects, I encourage open and frank discussions.

I'm in as well. Cheers!

Awesome. Even to know there's two people out there who won't get defensive makes me happy. So: what is a good substitute for bread in a sandwich?

You can roll things up in a lettuce leaf, or just roll up the slices of meat and cheese and munch away, that's what I do.

Waffles make an excellent substitute. : P

That seems mean cs, considering I'm trying to lose weight...

I like your style. ; P

LETS TALK FITNESS YO.

um.

I like blunt motivation, let's do it.

Stack the sandwich ingredients together without bread, dunk it in batter, and deep fry it.

Or use low cal La Tortilla Factory wraps or whole wheat pita bread - those would probably be better.

Mmmm deep fried. I've heard that whole wheat pita bread is not much better than regular ole' bread. Have I been misled?

I guess it depends on the manufacturer.  I like Trader Joe's whole wheat pita pockets because they don't fall apart like some others I've tried, and they're only 80 cals for a pocket (1/2 of a whole pita), and have a decent amount of fiber.  I've seen others that are up to 150 for a half pita with hardly any fiber.

Pitas are made of the same ingredients as bread, how could it possibly be better?  (Just check the calories - it seems better maybe because it looks like a smaller amount then bread, but in reality it's just less fluffy - piece of whole wheat bread is about 60 cals, a whole wheat pita is about 120.)  Who wants a life without bread anyways.   I hate "low"  (low cal, low carb, low fat, low sugar) foods.  Just eat a reasonable amount of regular healthy food and exercise.  But if you really want to have the sandwich ingredients without the bread, just make yourself an anti-pasto snack - buy the good quality stuff - olives, pickles, sun-dried tomatoes, strong cheese, and nice cold cuts (or even better, a sliced up chicken breast or steak or something).   Have a nice glass of wine with it too.  mmmmm.

Well, I didn't say it was "better" than bread, I responded to the question and suggested it as a bread sustitute. (on edit:  when I said "better", I meant better than deep frying...)

I agree - I certainly wouldn't a life without really good bread, with some olive oil and balsamic vinegar for dipping...mmmmm

That reminds me - pick up really good bread for dinner.

(And I love good anti-pasto - stuffed olives are wonderful!)

Just thinking about Anti-pasto makes my stomach bile gurgle. I hate that stuff. Also, I don't want to cut out bread forever, but to seriously cut calories until my metabolism gets going. Exercise and eating less is not having as much an effect as I'd like right now.

Well, if exercise and eating less isn't having much of an effect right now, then "seriously cutting calories" won't yield much better results, especially if you want to get your metabolism going.

What kind of exercise are you doing?  Strength training, as I've read and experienced, is a great way to get your metabolism up.

Duly noted Santo. Right now I am in the process of trying to turn my fat a$$ into a runner. Slowly but surely. Strength training is a no go for right now, as you see I am very muscular as is, manly calf muscles and hideous arm muscles. I am completely uneducated in the process of losing weight without bulking up. I'm 5'6, currently 205 lbs, with a 31" waist. I have a surprisingly low body fat cosidering my size and weight, but there it is. I want to be a little more feminine. Softer and smaller.

Try some Thomas' Multi Grain Light English Muffins. They're the perfect size for a sammich, and only have 100 calories and 8 grams of fiber. They have to be the light ones, the regular is a lot higher in calories. Ooooohhh...and some cream cheese, don't forget that!

You speak my language Bea.

I wish I could help on this one.  I can't.  I don't substitute bread for anything.  You couldn't make me give up my bread if you offered me a million dollars.  LOL  But, Im a smart girl who knows that store bought bread will kill you.  Way to much HFCS.   So I make my own.  You can take pretty much any bread recipe, substitue the fat with olive oil and the sugar with honey, use whole wheat and whole oats or whole wheat, and wheat germ and get a very  healthy bread that tastes really good.

Of course its going to be slightly higher in calories than store bought bread but at least its calories that are good for your body and not artifical crap off a shelf.

But its worth it.  I have one recipe I do where I puree chicken and baby spinich leaves together, roll my dough out flat, spread the chicken and spinish and just a touch of plain yougart and a handful of shreaded chedder on the bread roll it up like a cinimmon roll, cut them into sections with a string and bake.   Its healthy, its filling, two rolls only has like 500 or 600 calories and It keeps me full all day.

Since Im the only one that eats it, I eat two and package the rest up.  I have lunches all week or I can freeze them and have it for lunch once a week for a couple of months.  It works great.

Edit: That didn't come out right.  You need to put the yogart in with the chicken and spinish when you puree it then top with the cheese before rolling it up.  Geeze.

That sounds really good, but not very low calorie.  I wonder what size piece is 500 calories.

Anyway, If you will take a crabby old lady in the group, I am in.  It might be nice not to have to rewrite what I say 3 times to make sure it is PC and positive enough.  And was123, pita is better because it is cool, new, and yuppie.  Geez, don't you know anything?  Wink

Oh, and yeah...  Fitness.  <stares at her flabby tummy>  I will talk about anything, we don't have to really know what we are talking about, right?
