Looking for people that are not easily offended to talk fitness.
I am crass, tactless, completely insensitive, and find myself constantly insulting people without intention. Therefore, I would like to start a group for people like me, if there are any, who can help motivate/ get motivated without getting angry when I say something completely inappropriate. I promise to conform to the basic guidelines as set out by our wonderful mediators, but I can't promise I won't encourage discussions about sex, politics, and any other such drama-starters.
In short, I know that somewhere, over the rainbow, poorly motivated sarcastic wiseguys like myself are looking for a kick in the pants, and I'm here for you friends. Let me kick you in the pants. (Metaphorically of course)

mc: Way to go! It is tough changing so much at once. Just remember that you are a great person and you are just making a few changes so the outside matches the inside and don't let anyone (including yourself) tell you otherwise!!!
As for being 22, this too shall pass :) It took me a lot longer than that to start on taking care of myself. I am going to be 45 next month, am on my 2nd career and millionth diet/weight loss/get healthy adventure, but no grey hair. I have yet to figure out what happened to the last 20 or so years.
I set the silly thing off. It has to be re-set by someone manually, so screamed for 5 mins while she got the key. How not influence and impress. LOL! Oh well, suppose it gave some folks a laugh.
rjnt: Can't say I would want to whack anyone in this class, they would flatten me. It's a class full of soccer moms-and yes, they wear lipstick. Be afraid-very afraid.
april: yep, beet red!!!
jef: Yippeeee!
Speaking of being gone, I am going on vacation all of next week. Hiking, hiking and more hiking. Yosemite, Redwoods and wine country. Plan on taking off a few lbs.
Hope you all have a great weekend and week.
So I'm weak and got on the scale this morning. I didn't weigh at home last Friday but was weighed in when I went for my meeting with the nutritionist. Based on that number (which was unfair, IMO, because I had eaten breakfast and had two cups of coffee AND it was the first day of my cycle) I have lost a little more than 3 lbs. so far this week. Hopefully that number will go down further by Friday since my TOTM will be done by then.
I'm really hungry this week. Light-headed hungry. Have-had-a-headache-all-week-since-reducing-m y-calories hungry. I am eating at the top end of the range given to me, but I'm still really hungry. I forgot half my food at home this morning, so my stomach is making some pretty angry noises right now. I felt good during my lifting workout at lunch though (had just eaten lunch). I just have to get through the rest of the work day and the drive home so I can shove my face in my dinner plate. I may have to start licking my plate clean just to get all of the calories. If I do, I'll post pictures. That would be funny.
thats not good april. i got that a few months ago. i tried eating more potassium & iron rich foods that seemed to help. but i also had to try to eat a bit more. maybe since it tom that has something to do with it. but 3lbs in one week PLUS any additional pounds you may have lost that are not showing up yet, could've been too fast for your body. i had lost 8lbs in 2 week, 4 each and i felt very light headed. not only that, it set me back about 4 weeks in running. 2 weeks of being weak & then 2 more lost of actually progressing in endurance as i had to get back to where i was 2 weeks previous. really made me mad. i guess the moral of my story is just be careful. its normal to be hungry when cutting down your calories for the first few weeks but its not normal to feel light headed. try eating more smaller frequent meals too.
Thanks. Yesterday was probably the worst because I left about 170 calories at home. I had a 270 cal. protein bar in my desk, so I had that. It put me over by 75 calories (1675) but I felt better. I'm wondering if I should increase to 1700 and see how that goes? If I'm not losing .5 - 1 lb. per week, I can always reduce. I just think 1600 as a max is just too much of a reduction all at one time. I can make that 100 calories count, as in having something high in potassium (a banana?) and/or iron (protein?). That would be a nice snack, banana with peanut butter.
I've been using the NROL program and did workout 1 B yesterday. Man, I am sore! It consisted of 2 sets of 15 reps of dead lifts (70 lbs.), dumbbell shoulder presses (15 lbs), wide-grip lat pull-downs (85 lbs.), lunges (BW + 20 lbs. (I did lunge dips cause my balance is terrible)) and swiss-ball crunches. The program doesn't encourage you to add anything, but I did add alternating biceps curls (15 lbs.) and lying-down tricep presses (10 lbs.). The last couple reps were a challenge to complete so I think the weight is okay for now.
rnjt, are you following the rffl program in the link from melkor? I remember seeing it, but cannot locate it now. I'll do a search in fitness. How does that workout compare with what I listed above?
I got on the scale again this morning (I'm weak, so shoot me!), and I'm down another 3 lbs. from yesterday (I know that's just water). That's 6 lbs. from what I weighed on the nutritionist's scale. Those are exciting numbers to me after going 8 months with nothing. I also don't believe they're accurate since I was retaining a lot of water. Next week will be a more accurate weigh-in.
I just have to be strong and diligent and I think I can lose 15 lbs. before December 31.
jef, how are you with the 0.8 lbs.? Got my fingers crossed for you!
the rffl kicks your butt big time, i would recommend it once you start to feel better. i would not recommend it while you feel slightly weak. i started it after i did a very slight bulk break. i wasn't really ready to do a bulk phase yet but time is/was ticking for the wedding. im actually going to by the NROL book for my reading during my wedding/honeymoon break to keep me mentally motivated for when i get back. i know it'll be too easy once i get back to lapse. i have to keep the excitement going.
speaking of which not much going on here in that department this week, i think the wedding details are getting to my exercise partner even tho im the one doing most of the work, pfft!
they seem to keep moving the stupid link around, but here is the latest.

Okay, so it IS a motivational and fitness blog, but not a single nibble on this politically loaded comment?
***sigh**** You are all so very disciplined! I can't start trouble anywhere....
I have to say the whole plate licking deal was a much funnier picture. Glad I'm not the only one.
Thats a good link/article too.

This is a link to my neighbor's daughter. She lost 40lbs and built up the muscle and is now doing competitions. It was fun watching the transformation.

i did giggle when i saw that. but im resigning myself to the fact that we will probably be screwed in the area, so why dwell on it.
annshmech:
I didn't comment on the soccer moms and lipstick because for me it isn't politically loaded because I'm not american. ;)

The 0.8 lbs to go is now a closer 0.6lbs - so I guess that means it is on the right track. The trendline is sloping in the correct direction. Any day now... any friggin day now...
AND I weigh myself daily. Sometimes twice daily for curiosity sake before bed. So I don't think you're weak for hoping on the scale regularly. I've read people that weigh themselves daily are more successful with weight loss. So keep hopin on it!
I too get lightheaded - protein is good. Stay hydrated. Lots of eating regularly- no more than 3 hours between snacks/meals. Low sugar foods too so that you don't get blood sugar spikes (fruits are usually ok). PB & Banana is my favourite snack. :) Dr thinks I might have hypoglycemia because my fasting blood sugar tests seem to keep coming back really low - but this is yet to be fully diagnosed so I don't have much insight into it yet. Hope it goes away for you though. It really isn't fun.
I am sad nobody gave out complementary humps this week. Thankfully I will be joining up with my exercise partner tonight for real humps after TWO very long weeks of no exercise partner. And it is friday - so I will give out a complimentary "Friday Uck".
I am going to have to check out these fitness programs when my personal trainer stops making programs for me (I run out of sessions in October).
I'm soooooo looking forward to reaching my goal weight. I'm wearing a top I haven't worn in 3 years today. It's a good feeling.
Hey everyone.
April-I'd love to get my body fat and everything tested properly. How much did it cost for you to get your body composition done? And has anyone ever had their BMR tested? What about that?
Hello girls! I'm so excited today because I'm down another pound. That makes 7 lbs. down from last Friday. I realize most of it is water from TOTM but I'm excited nonetheless. I'm optimistic the trend will continue. My jeans are really loose on me today (well, looser than usual) and that just adds to my excitement.
rnjt, thanks for the link. I'll continue with the NROL for now. The rffl will be something I can use as I get closer to my BF target, or when I seem to have stalled with the NROL.
I wonder if the lack of exercising with our partners is catching? I, myself, haven't in almost a month! My partner has had really early mornings for work and has been asleep by 8:30 p.m. almost every night.
jef, I know you'll do it. 0.6 lbs. is a full bladder. Maybe an extra long exercise session will do the trick? I think intervals would definately help.
I've increased my calories by 100 and the light-headed feeling seems to have gone away. I wonder if having my TOTM and reducing my calories at the same time was the cause?
duck, my body comp cost me $350. I have a before-tax FSA so I get every penny of it back (otherwise, I wouldn't have spent that kind of cash). It consisted of caliper readings as well as hydrostatic weighing. Also included VO2 Max, meeting with the sports nutritionist and sports psychologist. I am going back next week to have my RMR/BMR done. From what I understand, they take my measurements just standing on the treadmill with that mask thingy on. Then, they start me walking, increasing speed until I'm running and maxed out. Throughout the process they take measurements to give me an accurate RMR/BMR reading. I think it will be really useful so that I know exactly what I'm burning, even at rest, so I can tweak my calorie intake to continue losing weight steadily. Well worth it I say.
Perhaps this last 36 lbs. will be easier to get rid of than the last 54 has. Fingers crossed!
My body comp is much less "scientific". And probably WAY less accurate than aprilfools. My gym has a machine that you step on - grab onto these handles - and it measures body fat/water/lean body mass %'s. I am allowed to get a report for free when I have a personal trainer consult done. I just have to ask to schedule it in before my workout. I get one done every couple of months usually. And so far all I know is the body fat is going down and that is the direction I like to see - accurate or not!
Don't you love the skinny jeans feeling? I wore mine for the first time in years this weekend! It was crazy! And then I went shopping and bought all these clothes. That was fun.
I am sick. Lungs are getting heavy. But I'm still going to try to do some weights tonight incase I am even more sick later this week. I only have 9 days to lose 0.6lbs - and I'm not feeling very optimistic...
rjnt - i couldn't get that RFFL link to work...? Am I the only one here computer challenged?
Hello! I'm so happy to report I didn't binge this past weekend! I've been getting a little too relaxed on Fridays and Sundays lately and this is the first weekend where I've stayed under my calorie limit. It felt really good not to be weighed down by guilt.
jef, I look forward to the days where I can wear skinnier jeans and feel just as fabulous. Hope you feel better soon.
well as much as i was singing rffl's praises last week, my endurance has gotten a little too good for the program. which i know is good but then im burning less & less calories. so im upping the weight & lowering the reps/sets and adding in jump roping in between sets.
i had a dream about this thread. but we were all in person (well in an symbolic way). some guy was being shy about expressing himself & mc pointed to the title of the thread saying, this is what the thread is about. anyway its not making much sense.
happy non-binging april. wish could say the same for myself.
Where has the love gone?! Our fun and risque thread has dwindled to a trickle.
So far this week I'm down a little more than 2 lbs.! Today is a weight training day but I hope it's enough activity to get me down closer to 3 lbs. this week. I have been hungry since reducing my calories, but I'm sure I'll adjust. It's just a mind over matter thing. The good thing about this is that I don't have that very full feeling that I despise.
I'm now on week 7 of the C25K running program which means I'm running more than 20 min. per session. I had injuries that sidelined me for a little while, so I had to start completely over. Sunday I ran for 21 min., and Tuesday I ran for 26 min. Yeah!!! I'm going for 30 on Friday. It blows me away to think that in March I couldn't run for more than 1 min. without feeling like I was going to die. The first 5 min. of my run is the most difficult part but then I relax into my stride and it's all good. Once I am consistently running 30 min., I will start working on my speed. I think I'll be ready for my first 5k next Spring.
I hope everyone is meeting their goals this week. I feel really positive that I will lose this 10 lbs. that's been nagging me for 8 months and reach my first GINORMOUS milestone.
yes where has the love gone.
april, there will always be injuries (for me at least) its just learning how to deal with them which sounds like you do.
CONGRATS!
The love has gone... in my pants? &nb sp; (I wish)
AHhhhhh! Work deadlines have been sidelining my CC inputs this week. wtf? So not fair. Work before CC posts? What is the world coming to... tisk tisk.
Still sick. blah. So I've been skipping my interval training because cardio makes me die at this point in time. But mostly I think I'm fighting off the super lung infection I had predicted (so far anyways) so that is good news.
GOOD NEWS: I'm now officially today ZERO POINT TWO lbs away from my goal weight. 0.2! This is wonderful news. Too bad I'm drinking a box (classy I know) of wine this weekend. Probably won't make for a wonderful monday weigh in. But I expect that... and embrace that.
When I'm sick I'm all me me me so I'm not commenting on everyone elses posts. In general a "Good work" looks like its in order for everyone.
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND! ITS FRIDAY BEEITCHES!!!
Drumroll please....3 lbs. GONE this week!!! I am so fantabulously happy! If that is not encouragement to keep killing myself in the gym, I don't know what is.
jef, 0.2? That's terrific!
Hope y'all have a great weekend.
Hi all, I'm back. If you've never seen the Sequoia's, it's worth the trip. Those are some really, really big trees!
I did lots of hiking. I thought I would loose some weight, but it doesn't look like that happened. I actually ate less too. That being said, it was a great vacation.
I just bought a new fancy scale that measures body fat, hydration and weight then calculates based on a height/gender (profile info) to get all the numbers. ($39.99 This has a big digital read-out and goes out to the decimal place. Reality check. I have a much higher body fat than I thought. Oh well, at least I know the real score. My old scale was a cheap thing and I couldn't really see the dial. I just kind of guessed. Not so good.
It has 4 profiles and there's just me so I set each one at a 10 lb goal. I'll have to tackle it this way.
When is the best time to weigh in? How often do you weigh yourselves?
No more lame joke...all gone.
jef9up: 1. Hope you're feeling better soon. I had that crud, no fun. 2. Since when does nationality stop comments and observations? Go for it! 3. Congrats on losing the weight.
1aprfl: Congrats! Hate the injuries!!! I get down when I am sidelined. Just when I'm getting jazzed.
grrrrr, it posted 2x.
Where's the love---more like where's the conversation? The joke wasn't that lame was it? Promise, no more jokes!
Lost 1.2 lbs -- finally going the right direction.
Will I lose weight if I eat the same food over and over?
You can lose weight despite eating the same food day-after-day as long as you eat fewer calories than you burn. In fact, eating the... Read more
