Looking for people that are not easily offended to talk fitness.

Quote  |  Reply

I am crass, tactless, completely insensitive, and find myself constantly insulting people without intention. Therefore, I would like to start a group for people like me, if there are any, who can help motivate/ get motivated without getting angry when I say something completely inappropriate. I promise to conform to the basic guidelines as set out by our wonderful mediators, but I can't promise I won't encourage discussions about sex, politics, and any other such drama-starters.

In short, I know that somewhere, over the rainbow, poorly motivated sarcastic wiseguys like myself are looking for a kick in the pants, and I'm here for you friends. Let me kick you in the pants. (Metaphorically of course)

So my question to the men in here is, do you consider a woman too forward if she talks about sex? Are you honest about your preferences? And to the women...are you afraid of/have you faced the same kinds of prejudices I mentioned?

i have been judged on this subject more than once. the fact of the matter is most guys talk a big game but when it comes down to it they act like clergy. one guy i dated got all freaked out when i told him that i am very loud when enjoying myself. i mean like he isnt gonna notice later on. and i only mentioned that because the guy before him told me he wasnt used to a woman getting so into it.

Well I guess better to find out he's easily freaked out sooner rather than later eh. THese are the things people who are dating should talk about. Do you like movies? What kind of music do you listen to? Do you like to be uninhibited in bed, or are you more reserved? Do you get a long with your parents? it's all good info, why leave out the important parts about sex?

where are all the men? i mean a bunch of hi driven women talking about sex, and where are they? we need some testosterone injection in here to keep it real.

anyway just came back from the gym, doing my heavy lifting which for some reason is the best exercise for me to get all excited. heavy lifting, heavy petting, what ever, they both make me quiver. anyway another reason for women to do some heavy lifting.

ill see you guys tomorrow, have to eat dinner & go to bed.  nighty nite, i should be getting some later.

Hmm. I don't know if shying away from the subject is always an idicator that the guy is really shy in bed. I mean, he might be embarrassed to talk about it, but then once he's in the situation his sexual communication skills take a full turn around. It might freak him out that you casually discuss your sexual responses over dinner... it doesn't mean he wouldn't like to experience them. If anything, you're probably just making him sweat.

Sorry to jump in without any kind of introduction. Looks like fun thread full of people who don't cry themselves to sleep because someone ate ice cream in front of them.

Oh, and mc, niiiice job on the weight loss! No worries if it doesn't show yet. I recently lost 25 pounds (10-15 to go) and didn't notice a change until after the first 15 were dropped. Then it was pretty dramatic. So just be patient, you'll soon hit that point where you and everyone else will notice how great you're looking.

How’s this for motivation?  Way to go!  You can do it!  No, your ass doesn’t look fat.  Now there’s no way for us to be moved to the lounge.

I just finished my lunch-time weight training session.  My PT wiped the floor with my butt again.  He gives no quarter.  That’s why I hired him though.  We’re both slightly sadistic so we get along famously.

Seriously though, I’m no expert by far, but I’ve been trying to lose weight since I was an embryo.  I’m only too happy to share what knowledge I have.  I eat very well 95% of the time but I’m having some issues with getting that scale to move right now.  I’ve accepted that (for now) since I’m seeing some pretty fantastic results from my sessions with the sadistic PT.

I was only 21 years old when I met my husband.  Before him I had never had a boyfriend so had absolutely no experience (I wasn't shy or anything, just never had any opportunities).  We talked frankly about sex at the beginning of our relationship, but, again, I only had my smutty romance books to go by.  Lesson to self: do not compare real-life men to those in the romance books.  You will be disappointed every time!  :o)  I've had to come in to my own over the course of our marriage.  I don't have a basis for comparison so I cannot say if our sex life is fantastic or just average.  I like to experiment and we have a treasure chest of items to spice things up.  I guess that's what keeps things fresh, willingness to try new things and be flexible.  Yea flexibility!

oh no he definately wasnt shy in bed or otherwise for that matter. he just had a very strong opinion that women do should not talk the talk but simply walk the walk.

my fiance WAS shy when we first got together but thats because he had never talked about likes and dislikes in his previous relationships. now he is the one saying we should try this or that. hell im down for anything as long as im not upside down. that just sounds uncomfortable.

What is wrong with getting moved to the Lounge? Is it like a demotion or something?

I will have to test this heavy lifting/heavy petting connnection.

I have another question for the women in here, we seem to have no men so it's maybe ok....has anyone noticed a decline in natural lubrication? Like maybe as you got older or maybe during weight loss? I know it's a private subject...but since the doors have been opened by our fine OP...anyone willing to share? I ask because I used to be a real slip n slide but lately like maybe past few months I have noticed...well...less. It's not for lack of being turned on, so what gives?? I am 37, nowhere near menopause...I have dropped 56 lbs this year...could either of these things be causing this? Its a little embarassing, it used to be so copious and now its just fine...we have occasionally pulled out the lube which has never ever been necessary in my past....is this something that is going to get worse?

Right. Gets a little hard to focus after a while with all the blood rushing to your head. Not to say that a little head rush can't make things interesting at times.

Maybe the problem is that people don't generally expect women to discuss sexual preferences because all women are just expected to be ladies in public and porn stars (which is and odd ideal for people to think about... considering the fact that the woman is pretending to enjoy herself. Hello.) in the bedroom. Most men forget that women have a harder time embracing the levels of their sexuality than they do... and communication tends to be a big part of learning those levels.

Anyway. About how many pounds a week do you girls generally drop? Also, what's your calorie intake set at?

Not sure of your age, but...

Perimenopause is the phase before menopause actually takes place, when ovarian hormone production is declining and fluctuating, causing a host of symptoms.

Some clinicians maintain that perimenopause can last for as long as 5 to 15 years, while others refer to perimenopause as that period which is a 3 to 4 year span just before menopause. Either way, many women experience more symptoms during perimenopause than after menopause. Because this often happens at an age between 35 and 45, many women's symptoms are overlooked or ignored by their healthcare providers.

The 35 Symptoms of Menopause

This list of common symptoms that occur during perimenopause and menopause was developed from the real-life experiences of hundreds of women. All symptoms were experienced by numerous women and were either cyclical in nature, or responded to treatments (both traditional and alternative) known to address hormonal imbalances.

Isn't it fun to be a female????

I was losing about 2 lbs per week but then I hit a long plateau and one of the things I did to try and shake out of it was raise my calorie intake from 1700 to 1900. The plateau is over now but I am having a hard time getting back to 1700, I am losing maybe a pound per week but it's very erratic (one week was 6 lbs, the next I gained back 2, etc). I bike to work everyday, which I started doinf right around when the plateau started incidentally...I am still doing that but would like to add in some weight lifting a couple days a week too. I havent done that in a long while.

m_c, congrats on your 30 lb. loss.  I think you mentioned that you weren't lifting weights at this point?  That would have a big impact on your physique.  I'm really into the weights right now so I'm going to tell everyone to lift heavy weights!  Weights are our friends ladies.

annschmech,  Nora Roberts is tame compared to some of the authors I've read.  If you like the paranormal genre, try out J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series.  HOT, HOT, HOT.

victoriagirl, I experienced the same decline.  I'd say about half the time we have to use a lubricant.  My body just isn't the same after having a child.

ACK!!! I am 37!! I might be experiencing perimenopause? I feel way too young for anything like that...but apparently not!

Yes, I am 40 and prior to losing my weight I started getting very dry in the last year.  So I think it is due to this mid age thing!  We hear about menopause hitting us at 50 but I think I started all this about 3 years ago.  Going through 30 items out of the 35 on that last list!

Strength training is key to get that weight off.  Metabolism is better and energy levels are increased when tying in the weights with the cardio!

victoriagirl, im slightly younger than you & i've noticed a decrease. i remember when i was 18 & this cal pacific coast highway patrolman, said i was 'a healthy girl', but it now comes & goes, needing some help now & then.

1aprilfool, glad to hear of another person advocating heavy lifting. its nothing to shy a way from as long as proper form is kept. & even tho you dont really have any other men to compare your husband with, sounds like you guys are doing just fine in the bed department. sometimes you have luck the first time around.

i actually feel a little sorry for women who cant really openly talk about sex. i mean there are some that just talk dirty, which i dont mind, but then their conversations lack practicality. when i was growing up my friends spoke openly but we also shared tips & tricks, our good & bad experiences as well as the dirty talk.

anyway rushing off again, late for work. you kiddies over the pond are probably sleeping by now.

mc_85, did you change your profile pic or am i going insane?

ok that menopause list? I don't want to get old. Shoot me now please and thank you. That sounds so horrible! I mean I knew some of the basics - but that just sounds like torture. ugh. Some days I wish I had a penis so that I could be a slut without stereotypes and open without judgement on sexual discussions and not have to deal with that list and/or monthly flucutuations of my hormones. But then I remember that I would be a boy and I change my mind.

1aprilfool - TOTALLY 100% AGREE with you on having a sadistic PT as well as how important it is to lift weights.

I told my PT that I pay them money so that I can hate them - so not to take it too personally. And so I hate them and provide them with some nasty retorts and give them dirty looks and then love the results. I've had a few over the years - some handle it better than others. I'm glad you found yourself a meany who pushes you and understands the need for that sadistic touch.

Ladies - go lift some weights. And then go have some sex. It's like desert for exercise!

cameo22 - how many pounds a week? I'm going to pretend you asked pounds per month and answer with 2lbs. 2lbs per month. It is depressingly slow. But I am fairly close to my ideal weight I guess, so I pretend that is why... although I'm sure it is more to do with the delicate calorie balancing act that I fail at. I aim for 1400 - but almost every single day I am over that - more like 1500 sometimes 1600. Mostly this overage is due to the fact that I don't have control over my dinner most nights (yes I live at home and mom cooks - this changes in January) Considering that my BMR is around 1680 right now + I exercise 4 times a week - it doesn't leave a lot of weight loss deficit.

ha ha, did that last night, no wonder i didn't need any chocolate. although im all up for it again right now. sigh, bf needs to recharge some times tho.

i've been trying to talk him into doing more exercise to no avail. he used to be a mover with some nice arms. but he still has great legs & a butt (& im a big leg & butt person, no matter what gender), i think thats because he's always twitching them.

that broughtback memories...when I was in Tennessee about 7 years ago I bought a bottle of arrogant bastard ale...the catchprase was "you're not worthy"....and I wasn't! my mouth felt like i had been kicked by a mule ahahhaa...my friend was scottish, and even he couldn't stomach more than an ounce. but i loved the premise :)

Oh no you don't know sadistic.  Im married to a highly competitive sadistic man.   He taunts me the entire time we are working out.  Hes forever saying, this is nothing compared to what we did in football.   By the time the workout is over, I want to scream, "so what if you can still dead lift over 200 lbs, so what if you can still leg press nearly a thousand.  Let me see you get out there with that spare tire around your waist and do belly flops like you use to."

The one time I broke down and said it,  He did, then laughed all the way home.

As to sex after lifting weights, works for him not for me.  Hes all sticky and sweaty and I hate sticky and sweaty.

As to sex in general.  My man has never had a problem with sex.  Talking about it, doing it, watching it.  Never bothered him.  In fact at 18, he managed to get me to have sex on a picnic table at the city park in broad daylight.  Turns out the parking lot we were close to was the one all the men with wives who hated them looking at playboy went on their lunch breaks to look at playboy on its monthly release day.   What day did he pick to talk me into doing that?  The new playboy is out today day.  There was like 2 cars in the parking lot when we started one being ours.  By the time we were done there were 20.  He had no problems letting me know that no one was looking at their playboy that day.

Lucky for me we moved shortly there after.

That is right on!  George, my PT, doesn't care how much I whine or curse.  He told me from the start that I can curse or scream or yell and it won't bother him.  I even kicked an exercise ball across the gym once when I was pissed.  He just laughed.  I swear he's the devil.  :o)

rnjt, I never feel more powerful than when I'm lifting!  I think a lot of women don't lift for fear of bulking up.  Muscle = sexy!  BTW, I think it's totally cool you're from Ireland.  I'm descended from Irish folk so I'd like to see the Mother Country some day.

So it being the first day of the month, I got on the scale this morning to weigh and check my BF%.  Let's just say I hate that flippin scale.  She's a cruel wench.  However, after talking with my PT yesterday, I'm just not going to let it bother me and keep on truckin.  I'll go and do my 30 minute C25K training today and not let the scale bother me.

Everyone, if you weighed in today, how'd you do?  Someone please share some good news so I can live vicariously through you.

1aprilfool: I done good!

after REALLY behaving yesterday and avoiding the kitchen like the plague I finally broke below 135 this morning! 134.4 = 0.6lbs down!!! And of course this will all come back this weekend... with the booze and the breads and the chocolate bars tempting me... or should I just forget the tempatation part and just admit already that I will be consuming them all.

But today I saw 134.4 and that is what counts. And when I don't see it on Tuesday I will know exactly why.

Officially today exactly 2lbs away from my goal weight. Very exciting stuff.

I'm sorry to hear your scale isn't being as friendly! Just to be helpful - mine usually isn't on my side either... :)
