Looking for 10 people who would like to lose 10-15 pounds?
I'd love to start a group of young, motivated individuals looking to lose 10-15 pounds......weekly weigh-ins....menu ideas.....all ideas welcome!
Let's try to keep this group small and dedicated!
Dropped a jeans size? Holy cow! Good for you, flutterby!
Pcarpintero, I will totally work out with you, I just need a flight to LA. If you want to send me tickets, February would be the best time, as I live in Canada :) But it sounds like you're doing AMAZING. What a great nutritious food plan for the day - thanks for posting it!
Subway, I have no idea why it is, but I have almost the same problem - it's killer to burn 250 cals on the treadmill but easy enough to burn 600 on an elliptical. I just find it harder to get into a groove on the treadmill, and there's no "help." I even find the Stairmaster easier than the treadmill.
Glad to hear you guys are all doing so well. I had tried to stop counting/weighing as much because I constantly felt like I was doing a bad job, and it was getting to bug me, but now I'm extra-screwed because my fridge and stove are out of commission, so I seem to be living on granola bars and things from the food court :( Gotta go get some more fruit!!
Thanks, veggiegeek! I'd lost a total of about 12 pounds since my starting weight, so the jeans size really pleased me. I was in the store, looking for my usual size of 9 short and I saw a 7 short right in front of me. In my head, I was like, 'why not...'. I tried the 9's first and they seemed loose, but not loose enough, so I said, "Eh, these 7's are probably not going to be able to get over my thighs and butt." But they did! I did a jig in the dressing room. ![]()
How's everyone this weekend? I got my motivation back! My best friend and I went for a long walk Friday night, I walked all day Saturday in the mall, and I rode 9.4 miles on my bike today. Eating went well, too! Probably could've been a little better, but I'm proud of myself.
Flutterby, that's awesome!!! Congrats!
I feel like I may have found my motivation too... at least for the past few days. I've been working from home and every hour or so, I drop to the floor and do a dozen or so crunches and other ab exercises. I'm about to go on a run. I've been running about 1.5 miles around my neighborhood and Tuesdays and THursdays as often as I can I run with my marathon friend and his team, so that's my plan for tomorrow.
I weighed in on Friday and forgot to post

My little bro stayed over for the weekend and for the most part I ate fine but I did have a grilled cheese and fries on Saturday at the bowling alley, oh well. My boyfriend and I are going veggie for the week to detox. We make something called "vegginner", sounds funny I know. It's basically a steamed veggie, couscous or brown rice, and a veggie pattie or tofu. We love it. So I went out and bought all the makings for a weeks worth of vegginner. My plan of attack for the week is to have my lunches prepared the night before even if I'm working from home that way I don't over eat and I'm not tempted to go for the bad stuff. But since it's all gonna be vegetarian this week, I'm not anticipating too much bad food going in me.
The Godiva chocolate is finally gone, LOL! Thanks to yours truly but with the help of many others that were over this weekend. I do keep Skinny Cow Ice cream bars in the fridge for when I need to feed into my sweet tooth so I should be okay.
Veggigeek, what part of Canada are you in? I visit Vancouver at least once a year. I have friends there and besides that, I absolutely love it so I've been a few times just to visit the city. I really want to move there at some point. I work in advertising and Vancouver has a pretty strong advertising scene.
Subway, I know exactly what you mean. I used to feel the same way about running. I was so good at the elliptical trainer I could go for way over an hour and be fine but the second I got on the treadmill, forget about it. About three months ago, I decided I didn't want to pay for my gym membership anymore and instead, I wanted to be more outdoorsy with my exercise routine and that's when I forced myself to start running. Then I started training with my friend who runs marathons and he gave me a really easy running schedule that's practically fool proof. You start by running 5 minutes and walking 1 minute and you do this for about an hour twice a week and slowly, you'll build your endurance and running is going to become so much fun. I literally have fun when I run (and I didn't mean for that to rhyme). I really encourage you to keep at it, running is so great for your body. Now that I know what running actually feels like, like beyond the aching lungs, I don't think I will ever stop. Right now, I can run about 3 miles with maybe one or two 1 minute breaks and I'm assuming if I continue, I'll be running in the double digits at some point in the next year. Try it out and let me know how you feel.
Have a great week everyone!!!!
Hi I just saw this post today. Is it too late to join? Current weight 134, age 28, height 5 feet 1 inch and looking to loose 14ish.
hey sab120, feel free to join. weigh-ins are on fridays. :)
hey veggiegeek, it's cool that you live in Canada. i live in TO ;)
pcarpintero, that vegginner sounds good, lol. i actually ran 15 mins at 5 mph. it may not seem like much, but i've never been able to run at 5 mph continuously without slowing down, usually i alternate between 3 and 6.5 mph, so endurance is something i need to work on.
How are you guys doing?
Welcome sab, and good luck! Subwaybusker, I grew up in Toronto, just moved to Alberta a few years ago. Not a hotspot for advertising though.
Pcarpintero sounds like you are doing really well with the running, so impressive!
Welcome Sab, the more the merrier!
What part of Alberta... I have friends in Lethbridge. I've actually driven from LA to Lethbridge to visit them a few times...really beautiful drive. I've also driven from Lethbridge to Calgary. The next time I have the urge to drive for a few weeks, I'll have to hit you up.
I woke up this morning feeling pumped! I climbed the huge set of stairs in Santa Monica, check out these pics: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/PGHG7VCDrklvdA -QHUTHmw?select=LrT8wFitRbpuPM-BXal0IA
I ran up and down 5X. And just around the corner is this huge grassy center divider where people finish off with weights, sit-ups, etc. so I worked my abs and did a quarter mile of lunges with a quarter mile sprint back. I'm feeling great. I haven't eaten breakfast yet, so I'm really going to strategize here. I don't want all of my hard work to go to waste. I'm working from home this week and I tend to get up for snacks if I need a break so today I have everything for lunch already set aside in small tupperwares and then of course vegginner for dinner, lol.
I'm supposed to meet up with the marathoners tonight for a few miles of running but I'm considering not since I just got in a great workout.... we'll see if I can find the motivation to workout some more.
Good luck today today girls, I hope we all reach our goals!!!!
Hey Sab! Welcome to the group!
I fell off the wagon today... Horribly. I had 2 small slices of pizza, a McDonald's snack wrap, a Starbucks chocolate chip cookie, and Auntie Anne's pretzel sticks. I can only imagine how many calories are running through my body right now because I really don't want to log today's food. Haven't had anything else besides that, so I'm hoping the walking I did today as well as the long ass bike ride I plan to take tomorrow will help combat it. And I need to eat healthy for the rest of the week.
I'm so happy that all you girls are doing well! I've really gotta start pulling my weight (very bad pun).
You may already do this, but try deciding what you're going to eat the night before or first thing in the morning and measure everything out into small tupperware or baggies and stick to it. Just don't eat outside of what you've given yourself. I go into work with 8-10 small tupperware containers filled with my lunch and a good amount of snacks because I'm a hungry person. I literally have to eat about every hour and a half or two. When I don't pack my lunch, I end up eating a lot more. I recommend small containers (like 1/2 cup) too since you can only fill them so much. It's a great way to portion.
Anyway, don't feel bad, just move on and stick to one goal at a time.
I'm not giving up, I just feel really bad about eating all that crap. I suppose a binge day every once in a while isn't bad, it's just the amount of food that I ate that bothers me. I'm back on the wagon. I haven't tried planning out what I'm going to eat the night before. Thanks for the tip! I'll try that tonight.
I rode my bike 8 miles today! I showed up on my friend's doorstep and she was like, "You rode your bike 8 miles here?! You're insane!" It felt so good though, and it wasn't even that bad of a ride. We put my bike in the back of her boyfriend's truck and he drove me home, just because I had to be back by a certain time. I probably wouldn't have made it on the bike.
Hope you girls are continuing your great weeks!
Flutterby, 8 miles?! That's awesome!!!! Keep it up!
I didn't have time to fit in a full workout yesterday, just some crunches but today I plan on running the stairs again after work. I already worked my abs this morning but I'm going to try to fit in a few more sets after my stair climb.
How is everyone else doing? Subway? Veggigeek? Sab?
Happy Thursday!
I had another good workout day. I worked on abs in the morning and then after work I ran the stairs near my house 6 times up and down! Then I went over to the grass and stretched, worked my abs again and worked my arms out using one of my pilates rubber bands. I feel pretty good. I ate well for breakfast and dinner but I'm not so sure about lunch. I went out with some co-workers and we ate at a salad shop. They make your salad fresh right in front of you but I'm afraid their dressings are really high in fat. I should have asked for dressing on the side but I didn't want to be difficult. At least it was a salad and not a burger but it's bothered me all day not knowing how many calories I ate.
My fiance and I singed up for the Nike 10K on 8/31. We have 17 days to prep for a 6 mile race. I have no hopes of coming close to winning so we're just gonna focus on finishing in under an hour and a half. I hope that's not too ambitious.
How is everyone doing? I hope you're all making progress. I don't feel any different from last week, so I don't expect to see a drop in weight at tomorrows weigh in but I am glad that I stuck to my workouts this week. I hope I can keep it up. We'll see what the scales says.
Hi all,
Here are my stats for this week.
CW:125
GW:120 (by labor day)
Happy Friday!
i'm getting so mad. i'm still stuck at 125 but i've been working out and eating right everyday this week. i wonder if it could possibly be the sodium...argh! bad news though, my gym membership's been cut and i'm going on vacation next week. we'll see how that one goes...i'll be glad not t put on any weight but i highly doubt that.
Subway, try zig zagging your calories. Eat high one day and low the next, that usually works for me. I think your body gets used to eating the same amount of calories for too long and then plateaus. Giving it more cals to burn one day and less the next will kind of wake it up again, things won't be so humdrum. Your body will notice something different is happening and start reacting.
On the bright side, you're staying at the same weight, not gaining so that's not too bad. Have fun on your vacay and forget about counting calories, you'll enjoy yourself more!
Hi gang!
I just finished working at the pizza place for the summer, so THANK GOD I'll have no more temptation with the pizza, sandwiches, and soda. I'm hoping that'll help me drop some pounds next week.
I hate not having a digital scale at home... I have 2 scales, one says 134, the other says 130. Since I was at 135 last week and I ate so much this week, I'm sticking with 134. So...
CW: 134

Just a question, has anyone tried South Beach? I saw the thread on here and my mom's lost weight doing it, but she eventually gained it all back. I'm just trying to get some feedback on it before I possibly try it. It says you can lose 8-12 pounds in just the first two weeks alone.
I am still stuck at 134 but I wore one of my favorite t-shirt that I hadn't in a while and it certainly was'nt feeling tight like last few (more that few) months. Hopefully I have gained a little muscle weight and lost some fat.
My brother just came home from his weekly vacation with his dad and even though he's only 11, he wants to lose weight too (he's about 5'3, 160 pounds). He's actually a great motivator because he gets outside all the time and plays basketball. I decided I'm going to go outside and join him, either jumping rope, jogging around the driveway, or dancing with my iPod on (it's funny because I don't care if people see me). My two best guy friends described my dancing as being erotic and neurotic at the same time. HA! I wouldn't really call it erotic, but to each his own. ![]()
I think it's going to be a good week!
How are you all doing?
I'm trying to get back into some idiotic dancing or jumping rope too - it's supposed to get cooler over the next few days. I also got a hula hoop!
Sab, I think clothes fittnig is always a way more accurate guide than a scale. I mean, you wouldn't care if the scale said 99lbs and you still couldn't button up my size 7 pants, right?
Hi all,
Happy Monday!
I had a good weekend over all. I ran the stairs on Friday afternoon and did my ab exercises and used my pilates band for my arms (i'm really starting to like that thing).
I didn't work out on Saturday but I ate pretty well all day. I had a veggie wrap for lunch and a veggie curry with basmati rice for dinner (I probably should've chosen brown rice :( maybe next time).
On Sunday, I woke up at 5am and went running 2 miles on the beach then I broke out my weights and a towel and went to town working out my abs and arms for another 40 minutes or so. It was pretty intense. I don't usually do things like that but my boyfriend dives and I figured I'd join him this time. So while he was diving in the ocean, I was working out on land. 5am on a Sunday was pretty crazy but I'm so glad I did it. I went to a bbq in the evening for a friends b-day and managed to eat a veggie burger, a handful of chips and a few bites of pasta salad. It wasn't like the most nutritious meal but I didn't binge and I avoided the deserts so all in all, I felt pretty good.
Today, is a whole other story. At my work, when it's your b-day you get to choose a restaurant and everyone pays for your meal. So today we had a b-day and the person chose IHOP (it's a pancake place incase you haven't heard of it). I decided to let loose and eat some pancakes. I ended up ordering from the children's menu and got the silver dollar pancakes which probably totals two full pancakes. I didn't add butter and I just lightly drizzled maybe a teaspoon of syrup for each pancake. It was delicious! So to redeem myself, I'm gong to run the stairs at least 7X's tonight and definitely work out my abs.
I'm still on my vegginner kick so dinner should be light and healthy.
Have a good week everyone!
Is it a fact that garlic helps with weight loss?
It is not a fact that garlic helps with weight loss; no studies have looked at garlic and weight loss in humans. One small study on... Read more
