Hey there Amy

My name's Zara and I am also looking for a weight-loss buddy :)

I'm almost 18 and 155cm. I'm currently 47kg and my goal weight is probs about 42kg to begin with.

But yeah, fancy being weight-loss friends? xx

Hi Amy,

I am game for a motivational partner also.  I have been working at my goal since Sept 08.  I am 32 and i started at 180.  I am now down to 163 and working really hard to get to 115.  I had a few motivational buddies in the beginning, but I am not sure if they are still on track, most have not logged on in quite awhile.  I just introduced exercise to my schedule last week.  This is week two for me and I am now more focused than ever.  My tip for the day is knowledge.  It takes a reduction of 3,500 calories to loose one pound of weight.  Wow, that is a lot and explains why it takes a week sometimes to lose one pound.

Allie

Heya,

I'm 22 and also 5ft 6 am currently 164lbs, so just a bit more than you but am also aiming for 130 at least and see from there! I've  just joined this site and am loving it! :-)

So how many calories is everyone eating a day?

Louise x

Please be aware, as you're all fairly new, the minimum intake for a sedentary female over 21 is 1200 calories per day and for a sedentary female under 21 it is 1500 per day. And believe it or not, that’s only the sedentary minimum. Unless you are very, very short and small, and/or if you are working out it is very likely you will need even more calories than those minimum guidelines.

If you are 21 or older use CC's tools to work out your BMR so you have a number to work from for your diet: http://caloriecount.about.com/cc/calories-bur . If you are under 21, CC's tools are inaccurate and you should use this calculator instead: http://www.bcm.edu/cnrc/bodycomp/bmiz2.html as you are still growing. Yes, even in the later years - there's more going on inside of you that you simply can't see.ned.php

And as you're all quite new to CC, I'd also suggest you read An Unofficial Calorie Count Guide to a Fad-Free 2009. It covers the basics of calorie counting, largely in how to do so safely and sensibly without resorting to drastic methods. Good luck!

I am a little shorter at 5 ' 0.  That is one bad thing about being short, my bmi expectations.  I should be 114 to be at a healthy bmi.  So that is my goal.  I usually eat about 1200-1350 calories per day.  I also exercise approx 30 minutes per day on the treadmill, in that time I normally burn 170-200 calories. I have a very sedentary job (desk job) so I feel my calorie intake is very reasonable.  I usually look about a pound every 6 days, however in this past week, I am down 2.5 lbs and 2 inches, which is awesome.  Keep in mind, I just introduced exercise into my plan.  Before I was only counting calories.  I will keep in touch with those that want a buddy, feel free to email anytime you need a motivational kick or you have good news such as a pound down.

Hi everyone! thanks for resonding. If you like we can all help each other in this forum and just talk and have weekly weight check ins, like on fridays?

Hello!

I'm 19 years old and 167 pounds. My weight goal is whenever I feel like I am at a healthy weight- my guess is probably about 135. I would love to join you guys!

Ok here is my weekly checkin, I will try to get on every Friday to update.  It has been an awesome two weeks for me.  I am down 5 lbs for a total 20 lbs.  I am also down 2 inches, one from my bust and one from my waist.  Exercise is the secret ingredient I have been missing.  I highly recommend everyone taking 30 minutes a day in the morning (at least 5 x a week as soon as you get up so you burn fat and not food) to get some cardio in.  It makes a world of difference not only in the weight loss results but in how I feel.  Today I am looking up and more confident than ever that I can do this.

Allie, congrats on the weight loss!!!!! You are doing so well!

Sorry I'm a day late on the friday checkins. I currently weigh 155.2 pounds which I am really excited about, I still have a long way to go, but i have lost about 6 pounds since starting calorie counter. I thought it would be a good idea to log our weights each week so we can see all of our progress

CW 3/14/08 = 155.2

Sounds like a good idea.  congrats on your weightloss too.  What is your goal weight?  Mine is 115.

My weight as of today is 160.  When I started I was 180.  My waist is 38 in, my bust is 39 inches.

Hello,

Unfortunately (kind of :)) while I am at school I have no way to weigh myself. I have been doing good with eating healthy. I'm discouraged however because I realize that I do not eat many calories in a day at all, yet can't seem to lose any weight. I try to get to the gym but my major is very demanding and I spend a lot of time doing work. I've tried to make light snacks that I can keep at school such as sugar free jello and a trail mix- but I don't know what else to do!

Congrats on the weight loss though!

Mandypants007,

You really should try to get a scale so you can weigh in, you may be loosing more than you realize.   Also take measurements, that is a good indicator as well.  I use a fabric measure tape from walmart, cost 1.00.  As for fitting in time, I had a lot of trouble with that in the beginning.  I have three kids, work full-time, and have a side photography business, if I can find time, you can too.  I to to bed 45 minutes earlier at night and get up 45 minutes earlier each day.  Stretch for 5, cardio work out for 30, drink water then get my shower.  This does three things, kicks starts an already fast metabolism (metabolism is fastest in the morning, and did you know that after a cardio workout, you body continues to burn calories even after you stop working out?), burns calories and fat (since I do this before eating), and makes me feel great.  I hate missing a morning of working out.  I never thought I would say that, but I feel so blah when I don't now.  When I do workout, I am ready to face the day and am more energized and feel great.  Something to think about it.  I will stop preaching now!  Good luck.

Thanks for the great advice!

Hi there Amy! I'm 23 this year, and I started out middle of last year at 165 pounds, and my goal weight is about 120 pounds (I'm only 5ft 2).. Currently I'm at 140 pounds, and it feels great! I'm actually losing the weight because I want to feel healthier.. I'm studying to be a pharmacist, and it just makes sense to be healthier, you know? Of course looking better is a plus point too haha!

I'm hoping to get to 120pounds by Mid-June.. I agree with allibee, exercise is SO IMPORTANT! You build muscles, which burns more calories than fat does, and it helps tone your body too. I normally do a 1.5 hour routine, with a quick jog on the treadmilly followed by some weight training. And Allibee, congratulations on your weight loss! Exercise can really do wonders, eh?

Loulou girl, I don't track the number of calories I eat. Mostly I just eat when I'm hungry, but I choose my food carefully, and almost always I prepare my own food or snack on fruits or high fibre grains. I eat constantly! I find counting calories too much of a hassle, so I just estimate it as I go along.. I also sometimes allow myself one cheat day per week, though I actually don't really deprive myself of much on a daily basis.

Mandypants, you really need to consume enough calories a day or you won't be losing weight because your metabolism will slow down. I've been in that situation before, and I increased my intake and the weight just came off.. Of course, it helps if you are eating the right foods too.

So anyway, weekly weigh-ins are on Friday, so see you guys! :D One day at a time, remember.. There are no shortcuts, just good old exercise + nutritional food!

Welcome to the group da1gal.  Glad to have you.  See you all tomorrow at checkin.  I missed cardio this morning and as a result am dragging today.  I plan to do cardio tonight while I watch tv.  Looking forward to weigh in tomorrow.

Ok guys it is that time again.  Weekly weigh in time.

I am down another 2 lbs for a total of ....drum roll please.... 23 lbs.

My bust is 39 in, my waist is 38 in.

Today was the first day that I was able to complete the fitness program on my treadmill, 30 minutes run/walk combo 3.5 - 4 mph.  I burned 260 calories this morning and I feel great.  I am starting to feel more in shape, which is a way cool feeling.  When I first began my treadmill exercise routine, I could not do more than 15 minutes and I did it at 2.5-3 mph.  I never thought I would get to where I am already in just three short weeks.  I lost 8 lbs in 3 weeks, just by following my exisiting 1200-1300 calories and incorportating 30 minutes on the treadmill 5-6 x a week.  That is so cool.  I am excited.

I just realized I forgot to include my weight, silly me.

157

A little late with the weigh in... But I'm hovering around 138 to 139 as of this morning (saturday). I worked out pretty consistently, alternate days, and I've been watching my food. I think I might skip my cheat day this week, I don't really have any cravings. Usually when I have cravings then I'll have to have a cheat day :D

I'm hoping by next week I'll be 136! That's 62kgs (I go by the metric system here, actually) and that's 7kgs shy of my goal weight! Very excited :P

Total weight lost so far : 26 pound

Congrats on the weight loss everyone, and welcome to the group da1gal.

Unfortunately this week I did not lose anything, I'm still at 155. Its alittle discouraging but I guess it can motivate me to do better this week. I try to eat 1200 calories a day but Ive been finding it difficult this week so I was eating about 1400 on average. I'm usually good throughout the day but when I'm up late studying I get really hungry around midnight so I end up snacking : ( . I'm going to try and be better about that. Also, I went to the gym the first time with my roommate yesterday and I'm going to try to go a few times a week, and since its nicer out, maybe just go for some walks. Hopefully this week I'll be able to lose some weight.

Good luck to everyone!

~ Amy

I know, I almost always put on weight in the weeks before exams! I''m hoping this time around that wont happen (my exams are in about a month). What do you snack on? And I don't know, but isn't 1200 cals/day a little low? I honestly don't count calories. I just eat whenever I feel hungry, and I snack a lot as well as drink a LOT of water. I eat a lot of fruit (but stick to fibrous-y fruit rather than sweet juicy fruits, cos when you eat a lot, you're basically taking in sugar, too) and I snack on nuts (unsalted, unsweetened).

Gym is always good, I used to find it such a chore, going to the gym, but slowly it just got much easier! Now I fit in gym whenever I can, even during lunch breaks! But brisk walking is good too. Initially it can be a bit difficult to lose weight, but I recommend you think of it more as a way to have a healthier life, by eating right, by exercising, rather than basing it solely on the scales. I feel more energetic now, compared to previously when I was eating whatever I wanted and not exercising. It's a lifestyle change, and it can take a while, but just keep at it. Don't push yourself too hard, just take your time.
