Looking for a Weight loss Friend!!!
Hi!
I'm 19 years old, 5 ft 6 in, & 156 pounds. I'm a college student and I think my first goal wait is 130 pounds. Does anyone want to be my weight loss friend so we can talk and help eachother to reach our goals?
Hope to hear from someone,
Amy
Don't feel discouraged da1gal or getthin99. I am sure I will have a week when I don't loose anything also. I am actually up a pound since Friday (TOTM). Hopefully that is all it is. It is so frustrating, but stick with it. If you normally eat 1200 calories, try a couple days going over to 1300 or 1350, trick your body a little so it does not get used to the 1200 every day plan.
As for snacks, if you feel you want a snack but are not really hungry but just want something try ice cubes or ice chips, the crunching might be just want you need to get through the craving.
Some of my fav snacks are salsa and chips (only 1 serving of tostitos) or a mini taco salad with refried beans and salsa, lettuce and tomato. Mumm that is so good.
If I really am craving chocolate or ice cream, I just use portion control, only 1/2 an ice cream sandwich or no more than one serving of ice cream etc. Snack bite size chocolate candy etc. Chewing gum works well too if you are craving something sweet. Remember fruit is always a better option and can taste even better once we aquire that taste for it. ;)
Good luck everyone, see you at next weeks weigh in.
Hey guys,
Do you guys have any tips on what you did to "jump start" all these great habits you are getting in to? I feel like I am at a stand still. I am definitely going to try and start eating more (it feels so weird saying that I need to be eating more to lose weight!) but did you guys start any new habits you wouldn't mind sharing?
GREAT job on all the weight loss girls- you all should be so proud of yourselves!
P.S. Still haven't gotten to Wal-Mart for a scale or measuring tape... I'm in the middle of mid-terms!
I jump started my weightr loss by cutting out all sugared drink even fruit juices. Now all I drink is water, tea (with no sugar) or low fat milk (max one glass a day). I also cut out coffee, cos I read it dehydrates you, and I don't really fancy the taste.
I also cut out nearly all processed foods, and stopped buying junk food. I also switched to snacking on nuts.. they cost more here compared to say chips, but I felt they were worth it :) Just by changing my eating habits I lost 13 pounds over 3 months.. I only added exercise after I'd changed my eating habits.
The best advice I can give is read a lot about weight loss, there is a lot of information on this website, yahoo has health articles a lot, real age has some great articles. Knowledge is power, the more you know about what you are putting in your body or what should be going into your body the more you want to do the right things for your body. when I first started I counted calories but I still ate a lot of bad stuff and I did not exercise at all. I did this for while until I plateaued (sp?). Then once I hit my plateau I started exercising and with more knowldge that I absorbed I started to want to exercise more and eat better. The more I exercised the better I felt so I wanted to keep going. It was like a gradual snowball for me. It is still going. Next monday I am going to start the P90X program. it is an intense exercise program (1 hr - 1 hr 15 min a day) for 90 days with a defined eating plan with it. People on the program have had amazing results. I figured if I started it now then by July I may be able to bare to see myself in a swim suit. ;)
Ok it is that time again ladies. I was afraid to weigh in this morning. I had a rough weekend last weekend and it caught up with me this week. I was away at a women's retreat and their was junk food everywhere, I tried to be good and eat the veggies I brought but I eventually caved in. That coupled with no treadmill over the weekend = disaster for me, and it showed when I got on the scale this week. I was up a pound earlier this week and then was back to normal by mid week. I worked hard this week and was pretty good all week (except for 1 peanut butter egg, which I regretted eating withing 5 minutes after I ate it). So when I got on the scale this morning I was fully expecting no change at all. To my suprise I was down 1 pound this morning for a total of 24 pounds down now. I am now weighing in at 156. My waist measurements was up 1 inch at 39 in. I forgot to measure my bust this morning, probably because I was ticked off about my waist. Oh well next week begins a new journey for me. I am beginning the P90X program, it will be challege but I am ready, I have been preparing myself for this change for a couple of weeks now. It is time, to make some real changes. If you are wondering what the P90X plan is feel free to check out my journal, or google it online. It is a great program that has amazing results. It is intense but that is why it is so successful. I hope you all are doing good this week and I am praying for you all to have lost at least one pound. You go, I know you all can do it. Talk to you soon!

Hi! So yes, today I weighed myself and today im 135 pounds! It's a bit drastic, I lost about 3 pounds. I am a bit worried that I haven't been eating enough, but today I had a cheat day! I drank a bit too much alcohol, and even had chocolates and fries. Oh boy. Well tomorrow it's back to the treadmills :) I love my lifestyle now. Gym makes me feel wonderful... Anyway, 15 more pounds to go for me.. Goal is 120 pounds! Though I've been thinking that i might actually want to lose a bit more... get to maybe 110 (I'm not that tall)
I also plan to maybe start several different activities, like jungle trekking or sports like squash. I think that'll be good, add some variety to my routine.
But overall this week has been pretty good. I resisted a lot of temptations haha and I'm seeing the benefits! I look better, and people have been noticing. Congrats Allibee! the P90X sounds tough... Tell us how you've progressed, eh? Till next week, then :)
Congrats ally and da1gal on your weight loss! This week I weigh 153.8 so i went down alittle over a pound. I was hoping to lose more since i went to the gym most days last week, but oh well, 1 pound down is good. I can't wait till I get out of the 150s, I think that it will be encouraging when i get down to like 149. This week I plan to go to the gym every day and stay on track with my calories, since I did go over on the day before my big exam due to stress. Ok good luck this week!!!! : )
Hello,
I felt left out... so I got creative! Currently I am using a long piece of (unused!!) floss to measure me, and then using a ruler to figure out my measurements. I feel like going by this instead of weighing myself will be better, plus I still don't have a scale. Here's my measurements....38" bust, 35"waist, 41.5" hips. I'll be sure to check in on Friday.
Keep up the good work!
That is great, you will see a difference there probably more than on the scales if you are exercising especially. I can't wait to see your progress.
I used the floss method previously too. It's lovely when you see a difference after putting in hard work... you can probably also feel the difference by how your clothes fit.. Just be patient, and keep it up! You may not see differences so quickly, but over time it'll happen. :) See you Friday!
Hey Everyone,
My name is Katie, I am 5'4" and weigh 120 lbs. I am trying to maintain my weight, or lose a few pounds and to tone up. I am in nursing and have taken nutrition classes. I have lots of knowledge in dieting and exexercise and health in general. I even learned how to loose 1 pound a day safely! I am looking for people to support in their weight loss, and who can help me to maintain my weight. So anyone who is interested reply to this, or message me or add me as a friend!
Welcome!
How did you learn to lose one pound a day safely?
Oh, it is just something we learned in class. If you cut your calorie count by 500 calories a day (not cutting 500 calories more each day, people get confused with that), that is how its done! sounds easy, eh? This will bring you down to a safe weight, once you plateau you can figure out if you want to reduce your calorie intake more. You should substitute calorie dense foods (foods that have more calories per gram) for less calorie dense food (aka, healthy foods). Most leaft green vegetable are negative calories, that is, they give you so little calories you burn them off just by eating them.
Also, just a fact I found interesting that I learned in class. Carb and protien have 5 calories per gram, alcohol has 7 calories per gram, and fat has 9 calories per gram. So when you're drinking it is better to do shots rather than drinking mixed drinks to help cut calories. Or mix alcohol with fruit juice.
To lose one pound of fat, you need a 3500calorie deficit. So if you cut your calorie count by 500 a day, that means you will lose one pound a week. Losing one pound a day is not healthy, and probably means you're just losing muscle mass.
I study Pharmacy, and we also learn about diet and nutrition, but nothing about losing one pound a day! I think it's pretty drastic.. The only worrying thing about that is that, you might end up gaining all the weight again, if you cut your calories too low, as well as messing up your metabolism. I'm deathly scared of that, because I love my food too much and I don't want to end up having to NOT eat my favourite foods all my life!
I do agree with substituting calorie dense foods with less calorie dense foods. They 'healthy' foods are actually really yummy! :D Of course, if you still want your calorie dense foods like chocolate and ice cream and cake, the key is portion control. Just a wee bit, enough to satisfy your cravings, and then move on.
Friday's almost here! I need to step it up haha. Good luck everyone!
my bad, brain fart. cutting 500 cals a day lets you loose one pound a week. Your're right. :P I have had a verrry long day studying for exams and at the hospital. loosing one pound a day is not healthy.
haha, thats what I figured!
Hi Everyone,
Tomorrow is the big checkin day. Welcome to the group Katie002. My calorie deficeit is about 750-800 per day, only because during a P90X workout if done the whole way through which I strive to do, you burn 600 calories. I have been loosing on average 1.5-2 lb per week. I am following their very strict meal plan though too. It is tough, but I am hoping for some awesome results. Today is Day 4 on the plan for me. I must say that during Day 2 I about died. Plyometrics for an hour. Wow that is one work out, I was ready to vomit by the end of it. But I did the whole thing and was very proud of myself for that. I do have to tell you all though, every single muscle in my body hurts. But as you all know, it is the pain that hurts but feels good. I will check back in tomorrow for weigh in time. Good luck everyone, praying for at least a pound down for everyone. Maybe even an inch off the waist. Wouldn't that be awesome!

It's Friday again! I had a pretty bad week, on Saturday, Sunday and Monday I ate and drank beer without thinking about my calories at all (even though I secretly loved every minute of it haha)! But I still managed to go to the gym evry single day, so I don't suppose it messed up my week too much..
Weigh in! I lost another 1kg/2 pounds this week so now I'm at 60kg/133 pounds! I'm very excited, because that means I've lost 15kg out of my 20kg (my goal) and that's like 75% accomplished! I can do it! Only 5kg more...It's so close!
But because I kinda had like three consecutive cheat days I'm gonna forego the next two cheat days(i.e 2 weeks of no cheat days!) I really want to stay focused, and I can stay focused. As for measurements, I think my waist is smaller, because my pants are all loose! (And I just got new clothes too oh dear). I do kind of measure, but I don't really know how accurate it is.. But I feel good, and I can see my tummy shrinking.. Losing those love handles...
One day at a time, that's my motto. I just make it through one day, and the next day I just repeat it, and over time it gets so easy. This is the first time I've ever set my mind to lose weight, and I plan to lose it all and keep it off.
How did everyone else do this week?
Btw, I find this forum really great for me. Because at the back of my head, I know that I want to have achieved something after the end of the week so I can post it here, and because of that I push myself harder at the gym and try not to give in to my cravings/over eat. This is really helpful, so thank you everyone!
Hi everyone & Congrats da1gal! Thats great that you're getting so close to your goal. & I agree with you that this forum does help with motiavation to go to the gym when I don't want to or to resist that late night snack so I can report good results on here. Its nice to be able to share with you all about my weight loss, because I'm the kind of person that I don't want to tell people that I lost weight, I want to wait and see how long until they notice. So, i'm incredibly happy to report that this morning i weighed 149.2 pounds which gives me a total 4.6 pound weight loss this week! I'm really excited to see the results of sticking to my calories and going to the gym everyday. I hope next week will be the same. Hopefully everyone else did well this week too : )
WOW! Thats awesome both of you!!! I lost .5 inches in my bust... but gained .5 inches at my hips... :(
Which foods are high in both fat and calories?
