Looks Like My Halfer Will Be In The Rain!
My first half marathon is Saturday in the AM... and now it looks like its going to rain. It will probably be in the 50's. I'm always cold - but I sweat profusely when I run hard. What should I wear?!
I'm so nervous about this thing. I know I'll take Friday off to be prepared but all of the sudden I'm filled with doubt!
Aw man, sorry it is going to rain. bummer. When I was training for a half and it would rain I would wear spandex, I had the under armour kind because they are thicker. I wore an under armour mock turtle neck with a shirt over it and then a light shiny jacket to keep me dry. When I got hot I would throw out the tshirt I was wearing. Well, just throw to the side (an old one) And I also wore a dry fit hat because I HATE rain in my face! ugh. I also heard suggestions from others about wicking socks? never tried them but sounds like they would keep your feet dry. GOOD LUCK saturday!!! Don't be nervous! Once you get started the excitement will kick in. I didn't even realize what mile I was on until like 10 and by that point 3 miles is nothing!
I am not a runner, but I read on another thread that some marathon runners will go to a thrift store and buy throw-away clothes so that as they start to get hot, they can shed a layer and just toss it.
From that thread it seemed that it might be a common thing to do and the race organizers might even have people to pick up the clothing to redonate it.
Just a thought.
Nice idea! Thank you!
the thrift store throw away clothes idea is a good idea! i'd never thought of that.
and the spandex for the rain is probably the best idea too - too bad about the rain! good luck though! i bet the nerves will be left at the starting line - what a high you'll experience once it's over :))
Hi Bethany!
You can wear a garbage bag to the start and throw it away when you start running.
I did my first 10K in October, and it was pouring. I wore a long sleeve cold weather technical shirt and shorts. It was warm enough while I was running. You'll want to make sure you have WARM clothes to change into when the race is over. Bring a bag of dry clothes and check it in at the bag drop off! Pick it up after the race.
Good luck and have fun!!!! I just know you are going to have an awesome race!
You will do great, there is no need to doubt yourself or be nervous! Let us know how it goes, best of luck to you and enjoy it, my half was a great experience!
I've decided that...
I'm just going to go to the race, wink at my husband and tell him I'm going to go for a little jog.
I'm going to start slowly, like I did with my 5K, and increase pace with comfort.
I'm going to miss not running with Jack Bauer, as his exploits and neverending "I'll explain laters" have propelled me through these few last months of training, but hopefully the scenery of Lancaster, PA will be enough. Maybe I can outrun a buggie!
I just hope it has all been enough.
The past few weeks I've been trying to keep an incline on the treadmill as often as I can... I hope it has prepared me for the road...
HEY bethany!!! GOOD LUCK!!! that sucks it'll be raining, but yeah lancaster is pretty :) so youre from PA? i live in louisiana but my mom's from PA, so we go up there a lot to visit her side of the family. she grew up in lansdale, dont know if you've ever heard of it. It's an hour north of philly I think.
I think you have a great plan for your run. That's exactly how I plan to do my marathon! I plan to run my first few miles at a slower pace. WHen I start out too fast I cramp :/ Plus you need to save your energy for those last tough miles!!
Just have fun with it :) Let us know how it goes!!!
JCL - my husband did an internship with Visteon and lived in Lansdale in summer 2004.;-) Thank you for your suppor!
What should my plan for today andtomorrow be?
