How to loose while breastfeeding w/o the guilt?

I HAVE VERY LITTLE MOTIVATION FOR EXCERSIZE & AM SCARED TO DEATH MY BABY WON'T GET THE PROPER DIET... YES I AM A CONTROL FREEK WHICH USUALLY SERVES ME WELL BUT NOW IT'S KEEPING ME FROM LOOSING WEIGHT.

I FEEL AWEFUL ABOUT MY WEIGHT, LOOKS, ETC  BUT I FEEL EVEN WORSE WHEN I RESTRICT THE CALORIES & I END UP OVER EATING.  5 MONTHS LATER 15 LBS SHOULDN'T BE THIS HARD!  LOL

ANY IDEAS HOW TO OVER COME THIS?? ANYONE ELSE STILL BREASTFEEDING?

I always feel like the last bit of weight is the hardest to get off. Just stick to your guns and it will come off...possibly slowly but it will come off all the same. It took me 2-2.5 years to lose the weight when my now 4-year-old was born. I just wasn't motivated and was too busy enjoying her!

I'm currently breastfeeding my 4 week old son and have yet to resume exercising (I had a c-section) but I have started restricting my calories. So far, my milk supply hasn't been compromised on a 1500 calorie diet. I did plan in advance and made sure I had a can of formula on hand just in case my milk supply dipped and the baby wasn't feeling satisfied enough (not sure what your thoughts are on supplementing but this works for us).

If you are this worried, I'd suggest talking to your OB and/or your pediatrician. They may be able to help ease your fears.

Just remember...it's better to lose the weight slowly and keep it off. You can do it!

I had my little girl 6 weeks ago and I started eating "healthfully" (is that a word?) about a couple of weeks after she was born (the first week - forget it!).  Just by cutting out the "junk" in my diet allowed me to restrict calories and I've been averaging about 2000 calories a day.  I started walking about a week after delivery (natural delivery) and have started added some jogging intervals and weight lifting to my routine.  I haven't lost much weight and I'll still need some clothes in order to go back to work, but I feel great and my milk supply is flowing (I am pretty sure I make more than my baby needs.  That is great so I can "stock up" before I go back to work!).  Good luck and don't be afraid of milk supply.  I actually read somewhere (don't ask me where) that active women have better milk supplies than those that don't work out moderately on a regular basis.  Go for it!  Laughing

I am at the same place as you. My five month old is doing great but I am not feeling so great about my extra baby weight. I am just trying to be mindful of what I am eating and putting last extra junk in my mouth! I have been eating between 1500 and 1900 calories a day and doing a light workout before bed, (only time I can get around to it). I am really starting to notice a difference in how I feel and how I look. Remember that breastfeeding burns up to 500 calories a day so if you just watch what you eat you will lose the weight naturally!

Good Luck!

My supply it through the roof.  lol

But yes I'm starting to supplement.  I'd like to wean completely & already cutting back on the pumping, engorging though it is for me, while adding formula to his diet once or twice a day today.  Then I don't have to be so concerned about his iron, fat, & protein intake.  It'll be in the formula.

I only gained 32 lbs during the pregnancy.  So careful to gain it with healthy foods.  Never dreamed I'd be just as heavy 24 weeks later as I was the day I left the hospital!

Thank you for all the support everyone!
