I've lost almost 45lbs (yea me), with about 25 more to go.  Now, help me find a way to keep wearing my engagement band.  It practically falls off now when my hands are cold, I've more weight to lose, and winter is on it's way.

The ring is an unusual shape/style (at least I've never seen anything like it before or since) and sterling silver, so I imagine the standard 'get thee to a jeweler' isn't going to pan out.

Aside from playing high school and wrapping yarn around the back of it, I've not dreamed up a solution.  I figure someone out there must have found 'the perfect fix' for this kind of problem.

I would say take a ring to a jeweler and find out what the jeweler thinks about the ability to re-size it.  In the meantime, I know it wouldn't be on the appropriate finger, but shift it to a larger finger.  In your opinion what would be worse: losing your engagement ring or wearing it on a "non-left-ring" finger.

On thinking again, I think there might be "sizers" that you can put on the inside of the ring to temporarily re-size it.  I'm not positive if they exist though.

Resizers exist. They bits of plastic which strap across the back of the ring to make it a tighter fit. They're available from the Betterware catalogue in the UK. Not sure if you have them over there though.

Ya I say take it to a jeweler regardless. I mean if he doesnt have a solution, nobody will. Plus its not going to cost you anything to have him simply look at it.

I lost a decent amount and my engagement ring was falling off beyond belief. Id actually lose it sometimes just putting my hand down if i forgot to clinch my fist. Luckily mine was gold tho. Jewelers can resize silver too. It's just the design might make it difficult in your situation.

Order the same ring in a size smaller? I know this one holds sentiment, but it might be cheaper to just order a new one and keep that one as a keepsake.

It's a beautiful ring. Because of the pattern, I'm afraid the only solution will be a sizer.

I'm in the same boat too. My wedding bands are flying off my finger these days!! I had a jeweler look at them and she said I must get it resized soon, or risk losing them. And I have already had a few close calls.

I'm worried about this because the problem is if I resize down, I am told I can't resize up again. And I figure that sometime in the next 20, 30 years I'm going to probably regain some weight, or at least get puffier with age! So I'm contemplating the sizer idea myself.
Hmm...  Get thee to a jeweler it is then.  I'll ask about a sizer, or perhaps s/he could add some bulk to inside of the ring or something.

Plastic and metal ring sizers can be found in the Walter Drake site.  I'm sure they are also in their catalog.  I don't know if i can post the addy, but if you do a search in Yahoo for Walter Drake, it should be the first one and the description reads: Features a variety of products including labels and stationery, outdoor and garden, personal care, and more.
