Loose Skin After Weight Loss?
Hello, I'm 5'2, about 115-116, 21,f.
I started in April at 133 and lost a lot of my weight by the beginning of June. I was exercising at the start, but then went back to just cc when I hit a plateau in the middle of june. Balancing exercise and calorie counting was compromising my goals, I could only manage one at a time. I am going to start working out again soon, since I am close to my goal (110).
I have started noticing weird flab. Like, more than I had before. I understand that as I am not exercising I am probably losing a lot of muscle, but is this fat, loose skin, a combination and if so, which is it most? If it is loose skin will it tighten up on its own? I lost like ten pounds in a month and a half at the start and it seemed a bit quick, could that be the reason?
anyone with good advice or similar concerns, please respond!
Hey
I have similar concerns, but I think your skin will go back to normal with CV and toning excercises.
I think you only have to worry about excess skin if you lose 70+ pounds- even then it is different for everyone. I have just about lost 80 pounds, and have another 60 to go so i'm dreading what my skin will look like then. its already really baggy on my stomach and upper arms.
I think you should be fine though :)
From my experience, loose skin is a result of long periods of being stretched beyond its normal capacity. Skin is naturally elastic, but it loses its elasticity after being stretched for awhile.
The people who have to worry about it are like me and laurabow, losing a fair amount of weight (over 60 pounds). When I lost 80 lbs last time, I had a lot of loose skin, but I was losing weight far too quickly. I think you have nothing to worry about =).
I have some wicked loose skin now, but I too lost a ton of weight (90 or so lost so far.) At first, I thought the loose skin was just fat that's yet to go away; but it's definetely loose skin. I'm not really sure what I'm gonna do about it. It's not too bad a condition, but it is bugging me.
A good test to see if its loose skin or fat would be to pinch the skin on the back of your hand...if what's hanging off your body feels thin like this, then its loose skin....if you notice some substance behind it, that could be described as "jiggly"... then thats fat that you can still lose through exercise and dieting.
Weight lifting, walking and exercising is the answer as well as slower steady weight loss. Your body will catch up. I don't know where all the loose skin goes (another dimension) but it works...but with a lot of working out!
