How to loose weight at specific part of body?
Hi All,
After long 7-8 months hard work and control I am able to loose 24 pounds. Now my legs, thighs, hands, hips and chest are thinner and in expected shape, same way I lost weight from my waist and abdomen but proportion of other part of body its not sufficient. When i started my tummy is very bulky and looks really bad like a extension to body, after loosing so much still its look same :-( [in a way overall body weight is lost].
Can you guys suggest me some exercise [specially any cardio] or diet which help me to loose weight near my waist/abdomen. I want to loose next 10 pound only near to my waist/abdomen. Any suggestion or tips are welcome :-).
[By the way daily I run 2 km and do 20 min cardio and some basic exercise, also control my intake of calories. ]
Thanks for ur support.
Spot reduction is simply not possible. You can target a muscle group with weight training to tone a specific area and increase its strength but you cannot CHOOSE where you lose fat. When you lose fat it is lost from all over the body.
The spot reduction myth is further explained here.
Here is a key quote from that article..
"If the caloric expenditure is sufficient enough, it will cause fat from the entire body to be reduced, including a particular target area. Although fat is lost or gained throughout the entire body, it appears that the last areas to become lean tend to be those areas where an individual tends to gain fat first. In most men (and some women), the abdominal region is the most difficult area to trim, while the hips, buttocks and thighs tend to be the trouble spots for most women (and some men)."
Spot reduction doesn't work, as Chrissy so well explained. However, if it is your tummy mostly just sticking out, I do have some good news/advice for you.
-Some people store more fat inside their stomach with their internal organs. This is usually the last bit to go, so it will reduce if you keep working. Just keep doing what you are doing, fat will come off of there when it has left other places. This is even slower if you are following a very low fat diet, so make sure you are getting some healthy fats. Your body needs fat, so if you aren't getting any it hangs on to what it has.
-How much fiber do you get? If your are, um, back up, it can make your tummy stick out. Make sure you are getting at least 15 grams a fiber a day (If you get a lot less than this now, raise it slowly) and see if that helps any. Try the stir-into-drink kind if you don't want to change your food, or get the kids chewy supplements.
-Another thing that can really help is working on your posture. Weight training is really good for posture, and increasing your core muscle strength can help you look slimmer, although it won't actually take fat off. Since you run so much, it would be a good idea to add in some weight training to keep you from losing muscle mass anyway.
Hope this helps some! Good luck getting it under control..
Opps, I need to clarify that. Weight training will burn calories and fat, of course, I just meant that core specialized exercises still won't take fat off of just your stomach.
