How can I lose belly fat without losing weight?
Asked by qtr on Oct 13, 2008 in Weight Maintenance

I'm thin but I have a ‘belly bulge’ and it looks very bad. What shall I do to have a flat belly without loosing weight?

Answer

There are no quick fixes for belly fat. You can eat lots of vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and fat-free dairy products because research shows that a diet high in fiber, calcium and monounsaturated fat can selectively reduce abdominal fat if you stay within your calorie requirements. Exercises that build the core muscles can make your midline appear smaller. Pilates is a great core training system but it takes consistency and time to work. Abdominal liposuction can successfully remove fat right under the skin, but it does not remove visceral fat around the internal organs, which raises the risk for chronic disease.
