100 to lose club- a challenge

Quote  |  Reply
hey guys!  it's monday, a new week, time to start something new! :)

I like the idea of doing challenges but i don't like those challenges that say i'll lose X amount of weight in X amount of time.  weight comes off when it wants to.. weight is just a number.

I like the idea of a challenge that either challenges your body or your mind.  I want us to challenge our bodies this week.  I think we should all put down what type of physical activity we are involved in, both what we do and for how long, and challenge ouselves this week to increase this activity!

now.. i know a bunch of us can't do a lot of heavy lifting, or walking, or stuff like that.  and i know my whole life i always had the idea that if i couldn't walk or run for 45 minutes then there was no point in doing it because that's the idea that is kind of forced into our minds.  if all you do is couch dance for 10 minutes a day.. that's something!  you're moving!  :)  if all you can do is work on your arms.. that's AWESOME!

Okay.. i'll go first:

one note:  for you newcomers here or to exercise, remember that i have been working out for over 6 months now.. when i started i walked on the treadmill for 20 minutes at 2.7 mph.. and i was out of breath!

on monday and friday i do:
  • walk 10 minutes on the treadmill as a warm up at 3.2 mph and about 3.5 incline
  • use the elliptical machine for 20 minutes, level 4 random usually around 5-5.5 mph
  • i lift weights for 10-15 minutes focusing on upper body
  • i walk 3 laps on the 1/6th track as a cool down then i stretch
on wednesday i do:
  • walk 25 minutes on the tread mill either at 4-7 incline at 3.0-3.2 mph OR i do the fat burning mode.
  • use the elliptical for 20 mintues, level 4 randomaround 5-5.5 mph
  • walk 3 laps on the 1/6th track as a cool down
those are my days at the gym.

what i'm going to challenge myself to do this week and every week from here on out is take one day a week (the coolest.. ehe.. it's hot here) and take an hour long walk and jog for 1/2 a mile.  i did that last week and i'm going to try and make this  a weekly thing.  i am also going to challenge myself to start lifting weights on my legs too (i hate lifting on my lower body)  :)

so.. what are you going to do to challenge your body to get into shape?

I'll admit, I'm getting a little bored with the status quo, so.. here's what I'm gonna do. :)

On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I shall:
  • jog a litle more than a mile
  • Lift Weights, as hard as I can
  • Do some more ab exercises
On Tuesday, I shall
  • DDR for an hour
On SATURDAY, I shall:
  • Go onto the exercise bike for half an hour (or longer if I like), to do something new
  • Lift Weights, as hard as i can
  • Do some more ab exercises
That is my plan for this week!
I'd like to bring the exercise bike into this as a mean to change things up a little, as my current routine feels a little monotonous, and my real bike needs work first (like both tired replaced).
How long does this challenge last?

I don't have a set routine that I do. I just walk whenever I can (for exercise, not just to get places :)) My husband has started a new shift so I dunno when I'll be able to do that so here is what I'm going to do...

  • 3 times this week I will walk 3km.
  • 2 times this week I will burn 75cals or more on the evil stepper thing I have. (I haven't really started using it yet so it's FREAKING HARD! :D)
i'm thinking that if you can make it a week.. you can build on it.. :)  make it a habbit.. so when does it end?  i'd say never.. it just gets better.. :)
okily-dokily :)

Also...welcome to all the new members!

*sets out bunches of flowers for all*
Some how I missed the post about the "New 100 to loose club"  and it is already at 7 pages.  WOW!!

Love the challenge so here goes:

  • Weight training 3X/week at 20 minutes mininum
  • Walk 30 minutes 2X/week
  • Work on cleaning out my basement :)  Lots of stair climbing!
Would love to add you all to my friends list, feel free to add me if you want.

Now lets go kick some tushy :)

Trish
I have a step video that I LOVE, and I normally try to do it 3 or 4 times a week, the full video (40 mins).  I've started trying to add in 1/2 the video (20 mins) in the morning, but I'm not consistent with it.

This week I'm definitely doing 4 40 min sessions, and 4 20 minute mornings.

I also want to start walking the dog again.  He gets so excited when I put my sneakers on to step, thinking we're going for a walk, but it's been so humid I don't want to be outside at all!  So, at least two times this week, I'll take the dog on a 30 minute walk.

Is that too amibitous??  We'll see....
Right now I do water aerobics 3 days a week M-W and take swim lessons on Fridays.

This week, I plan to practice my swimming for 1/2 an hour before water aerobics.  Also, whether Paul goes with me or not, I am going to the pool at least once over the weekend.
wow.. you guys are awesome!!!  :)  we are all going to be buff and healthy!  :)

and now i'm off to go work out!  :)
I haven't developed a real routine yet, so I'm going to interpret this week's challenge for myself to just DO something for 30-45 minutes 2 days this work week. (I work fulltime, have 3 kids, and usually let that be my excuse during the week.)

I have a ski machine, a treadmill, and a bowflex at home. (Our own gym!) But my use of it is sporatic. In the past, my biggest hang up was buying exercise clothes and changing into them before working out. How absurd is that? Whatever I'm wearing, as long as it doesn't restrict or catch on something, should be fine for working out since if I work out regularly, I'll need new sizes before the clothes really wear out.... and I have a range of clothes in the closet from my journey UP to this size that should take me back down at least half of what I need to lose! (I'll worry about them being out of style when I finally fit them, right?)

I had a good weekend. Saturday morning, I walked 2.5 miles on the treadmill at 3.5 mph. Early Sunday morning, I took my kids to the park in town and walked 3.3 miles on the path through the park - 2.2 miles pushing the stroller. For half a mile pushing the stroller, I also had to carry my 18 month old, because she'd had enough of sitting in it. The really fit runner that kept passing me on the path cheered me on for upping my workout! That made me feel really good. Then I played with the 18 month old on the playground for a while before it got too hot.
ok so saturdays, mondays, and wednesdays (generally my days
off...sometimes) i walk 2 miles in about 45 minutes i think. i think
tuesday i will integrate the gazelle i own into my life for 15 minutes.
and ill try for 3 miles this wednesday! yay!
Hey Marj - I have the same issue with working out!  Have to have the right clothes - and no one can see me!  My husband laughes at me because I make him go upstairs or outside when I step!!  LOL  I have to figure out how to get past that one!
I tried my cardio salsa video Sat-was able to keep up with it for about 10 minutes.  In light of the new challenge, here's what I'm going to do:

Mon, Wed, Fri-I will do 10-15 min of the cardio salsa-I really like the dance moves and this thing kicks my butt and abs.

Tue, Thur, Sat-I will walk 20 min (may have to use the hotel treadmill as it is really hot here even in the early mornings (So TX).

Also will do 20 wall push-ups daily.

ok, I'm off to do salsa-adios

ps-down to 7 cigarettes and then it's time to quit.  Really excited, nervous, etc. about doing this but really want to be more healthy!
Okay, I'll answer the challenge:

Currently: Mondays - Yoga (75 min class).  (Excercise isn't a big word in my vocabulary currently)

Adding for the challenge: 3 - 4 days per week on my new stationary bike.  I don't know how long I can stay on the bike to start with.

I'm so happy I have a bike now as I don't want to have to worry about having clean clothes every day at a gym or remembering to bring them.  Here, I can put on schlubby clothes, my sneakers and go at it while watching mindless drivel on the TV.  :)
Good Morning!
It's also important to note that resistance training can possibly increase and at least slow or stop the decrease of bone loss that leads to osteoperosis, the thing your Aunt Shirly, the one who fell one day on the stairs, and broke her hip, has.
Stronger bones means that you can withstand injury better, and that you won't be one of those old ladies or men who is afraid of falling even once.
well first of all my weigh in day was sunday. I lost another 2.2 pounds. That makes my total weight loss 10 pounds. I just need to stay motivated and keep going.

As far as exercise I will be doing:

Mon-fri weight lifting upper and lower body (rotate daily)

mon-fri bike 5 miles

tues thurs sat arobics

over the weekend I never know what I will be doing....swimming or something like that
joys- awesome!  10 pounds.. too cool!

i did my work out today.. extra leg work out lifting weights.. and thanks HK for pointing out about the bone health stuff with lifting weights.. i forgot about that!  and i need all that i can get because my grandmother died from complications due to osteoprosis.. by the time she died every bone in her back had broken multiple times and her hips were brittle tothe point she couldn't walk.. it was very hard to deal with.. and i am going to do whatever i can to avoid that!  :)
Lady o-my mom also has difficulties with osteoprosis-just another reason for me to exercise and quit smoking as both help with that process. I just finished my 12 minutes on the cardio salsa and I kept up with the moves! Course this dancin is all private right now as I'm thinkin it probably looked a little funny but sure felt good to do it. Also did my 20 wall pushups and walked Max for 10 minutes. I love this site!!
Sorry I'm late checking in, everybody, but it was a hectic day!

*writestuff waves and takes a deep breath*

OK, here's what I'll try my best to do:

  • walk 3-4 times for my normal 30-45 minutes
  • continue to do wall push ups, but do 100 a day 5X
  • continue to do abs work, but up my crunches to at least 50 a day 4x
  • do aerobics at least once, as much of the 60 minute class as I can
  • do yoga at least once, maybe twice, for 60 minutes
Happy exercising!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  :D
I burned 528 cals washing my car for an hour and 1/2 today. Try that. lol
