1 pound loss for me this week.
So Julibox what are you doing to lose weight.
I've been slacking on my runs the past two weeks cuz I been meeting up with a chiropracter who has definitely realigned me. my left shoulder and left side of my neck has been killing me to the point where I can't sleep on that side at all. now Im fine but my posture is horrible. oh and it's TTOTM. as long as I don't gain, I'm okay for now.
I usually run 25 miles a week which actually is probably the reason why I have lost the 5lbs already. well that and watching the calorie intake. my deficit is always between 400 to 900 calories. no more no less. I actually eat decently well.... lots of veggies, gota work on the fruit intake tho, and more fish and chicken than red meats. I cook everything and eat out maybe 3 meals a week. I gota watch out on those outside meals, but the main thing I gota work on is not being lazy. :D
I have martial arts class every Tuesdays and Thursdays for about 2hrs. that's my strength training. those are the days I have major trouble cuz I have to actually increase my intake of calories a lot. I find it funny that increasing calories and eating more has become the hardest part for me.
this all has been working for me. I just need to not slack and be lazy.
Hey, I'm kind of new to this group. It's seems like a pretty good match since I'm 145 lbs, hoping to achieve 115 lbs (a 30lbs deficit). My dimensions are 5'3 and 18 years old, so 115lbs should be a healthy and achievable weight. Going into first year university, I weight 125lbs and then ended up eating my way through stress and anxiety which lead to the 20lb jump on the scale.
I'm just wondering.. does anyone sometimes feel it's overwhelming to think of how to lose weight since there's school, work, and "me time" to deal with as well. I'm afraid I won't be able to make the committment. And if I do make the committment, I'm afraid I might burn myself out with anxiety which would lead me right back to my old habits. Sigh.. a lot of things to balance.
Any advice??
SW: 145, CW: 137.4, GW: 115 yay progress!
damndetermined, you gota set a schedule and stick to it. try taking an informal cardio class or something that will require you to set a schedule. running actually helps me with the stress rather than be a burden on me. on my last job, I had to get on a plane every monday & friday, commuting to and from cali and wash dc. the only thing keeping me sane was running every morning. the consultant life of living out of a hotel, eating out 3 times a day at odd hours, lack of sleep, and work stress/ drama in the end kicked my butt. I'm happy I moved on from that job, but that's all the weight I am trying to lose now.
the only time I don't have to think is when I run or when I am hiking. it is my "me time." it's my time to get away from the world. don't worry. I'm 5'3" also, but 7 years older than you. :P I've lost atleast 7lbs and am aiming to be 115lb also, but I'm actually fine with 125lb. find your activity. make it fun so you look forward to it. use it as your stess reliever. I can tell ya that salsa dancing is soooo fun and definitely a workout that you don't even notice you are doing. plus make sure you aren't starving yourself or your body will store every calorie you intake instead of burning it. I could be wrong, but anything more than a 1000 calorie deficit is not good for you at all. just get some healthy habits going that you can keep doing even without calorie count. that will help you in the long run...
oh and good luck everyone else on here! :)

Hey Julie!
Go girl! 7lbs means you're almost 1/3 there! How long have you been at it for?
Which approach to exercising do you think is better (I'm a student so I have the flexibility to use either one: A) Plan your day around excercising OR B) Plan your exercising around your day?
Currently, I'd like to base my approach on the idea that health is my number one priority. The reason being is that if I'm not healthy, all other aspects of my life seem to crumble. Thus, at first thought, it makes makes sense to schedule my day around exercise.
Also, how do you deal with the idea of making sacrifices in order to stay healthy. I'm afraid I'm not doing the right thing, and maybe neglecting other important elements of life. I want health to be my number one priority, but I'm afraid other areas of my life might suffer. Is that something I just have to come to terms with and then simply tackle weight-loss challenge head-on? I just don't want to become obsessive.
sorry, this is a long reply. I officially started sept 10. I had to look back at this thread to see. :) so about 1lb loss a week.
it's easier for me to plan my day around exercise. that gives you no excuse to skip it. there's alot of stuff that is exercise that I dont really count as exercise. for me I get up every morning at 6am to run 3 miles or I run in the afternoon directly after work, except for going to the chiropractor to figure out what is wrong with me or if I really am very sick. so the run is the required exercise. then I have my martial arts class twice a week that I love going to. my bf and I go hiking, walk around the block, or play tennis. that's extra exercise but I see it as fun more.
health should be the number one priority. I dont know if I am sacrificing much. I think the biggest change for me is the food. you can easily plan that in advance, and it shouldn't affect the rest of your life. I stock my fridge with fruits and veggies. I pull the recipes and plan my week. I prep the veggies and what not so it's easier to cook. this all takes less than a day to do. then I bring my lunch to work. I still eat at out though. I do limit myself to eating out max 3 meals a week. also I dont have the chips etc at my place, so I cant reach for them to snack on. really, I'd say just dont deprive yourself but surround yourself well so that it's easier to make the healthier choices. my bf and I have been snacking on cantaloupe like crazy for some reason these past 3 weeks. :P but whatever works for ya, stick with it...
taking care of yourself should be integrated in your life rather than something separate. my last job was kinda in the safety industry so I'm partially bias hehe. but I know it's harder in college. dont weigh yourself everyday else you wont feel progress and it's not motivating. but other than that, just keep active and have fun! I know the major problem I would have had in college is eating out with friends.
if you dont look at it as a weight loss challenge more than a life change to be healthier, then I think you'll have a different perspective on things. when I run, my goal isn't to lose weight more than to consistently run 3 miles in under 30 minutes. I'm tentatively aiming to do the hawaii half marathon in dec 2009. haha vacation in hawaii and working out! we may not go but it's my goal for now and I'm looking forward to it. :)
or when I eat, I actually am not looking at it as lose weight but as getting in the nutrients I need and enjoying what I eat. there is a lot of good food that is actually healthy. more than anything, I've been trying to get all my vitamins and nutrients (i.e iron, potassium, etc) required for a day. I use calorie count more to monitor if I am actually getting enough calories. it's hard to eat lots of good food, especially fruits & veggies, cuz they are sooo low in calories. plus my calorie deficit is too high if I "exercise" too much. gota watch out for that too.
some books say to note how you feel after you eat something and remem that. after I eat a greasy meal or over eat, I feel like crap. I hate that feeling, so I am now less likely to go over eat or I will change my choice on what I eat. the donuts at work aren't as satisfying as the cup of vanilla ice cream at home. :) I pick and choose my splurges.
I guess with life, everything is moderation and balance. it's just easier when you get so use to it that you don't have to think about it. hope that helps! good luck!

no change this week. tis okay. adding in actual weight training twice a week to help more with my shoulder so I don't have to go to the chiropractor and to get more toned overall.
hope everyone else did well this week!
keep patient and keep strong!

Well I haven't lost anything this week. Does anyone have any suggestions to give me to help me lose something?
Can I join? I am 30 and weigh about 150 (I will do a formal weigh-in tomorrow morning). My goal is 120, I am 5'4".
I did CC back in January and got down to 138, but the summer (and too many parties and not enough will power) came and then I just got discouraged and spiraled down hill. I have started running again, but haven't lost. I know it is the food.
I hope that getting back on here will help me. I really want this to be my last stand against this self-defeating mentality.
Is this group still going and accepting new people, because I finally fit the criteria!
