100 to lose club- the list
hey guys.. i wanted to have this done yesterday but i got busy (such an excuse maker aren't i? hehe)
so.. i went through the thread about ideas and made the list of what we all want to see discussed. I thought i'd post it here and see if there's anything that needs to be added.. i will keep the list updated if things need to be added or taken away. then i figured we could start these topics maybe next monday or so.. but it's up to you guys when you think we should start working on the "list" :)
here it is:
Self esteem:
1. how to overcome poor self esteem
2. examine why we have poor self esteem
3. exercises (not the physical kind) to do that help
4. how to graciously accept a compliment
Food Choices:
1. staying away from fast food
2. analyze our daily breakdowns to find where we need work
3. eat a new fruit/veggie challenge
4. how to curb mindless eating at night
Exercising:
1. a challenge to see who can up their personal best time/level
2. keep monitoring each other to make sure we are working out
3. exercises that are easy on the joints and can be done at home
4. Exercise apparel for larger people
5. what gym equipment is good and safe for larger people.
Motivation:
1. ask someone who's at their goal about maintaining and how they did it
2. share our success stories, trials, tribulations, successes, failures, setbacks, things that work
3. how do you motivate yourself every morning
4. how to overcome a bad day, either overeating or no exercise
5. share our little victories, like skipping that piece of cake, loss of a pound, drinking enough water, piece of clothing that is starting to get roomier
6. lose the guilt (regarding food choices)
7. take time out to be good to yourself
8. discussion about guilt associated with taking time away from family and friends to work on ourselves
9. smaller sizes! how to get cheap clothes
General weight loss questions:
1. saggy skin, what to do
2. when to weigh in, best time of the day and how often

Wow, now I feel like a total loser, cause I never added anything to it :(
Sorry for failing y'all.
Sorry for failing y'all.
eh.. that's ok.. ;) and you're not a loser, well.. you are.. but not the way you mean it, and you didn't fail us.. sheesh!
That's an excellent list!
Under exercising, should we include a topic on either attire or equipment that works well for very large people? Like, I just got new shoes and they are soooooooooo much better than the shoes I had been walking in. I LOVE THEM! I walked last night and if it hadn't gotten dark, I would have kept on walking! What a difference!!!!!!!!!!!!! These shoes have made me so happy! *wipes away a tear of joy*
I got excited for a mo' 'bout them shoes! But like, sports bras that are big enough and that keep your girls from hitting you in the face when you jog (assuming you can jog)... other equipment type things -- you know, some equipment says it accommodates a person up to 285 lbs. Well, it would be nice to know if anybody has found something that a bigger person can use....
Like those exercise balls? I have never tried one because I can envision it popping in a dramatic fashion with me trying to do sit ups on it *BOOM!* :/

nomo- added.. :)
Nomo - I used the ball at 227, and had no problems (and yes, I was worried about the beginning). If you use it for crunches, you're only supporting your upper half (feet have other half) so it's not holding ALL your weight (I think).
A girl at work mentioned a bra that Oprah recommended for bigger people (bigger cup & ribs), but it was expensive. She ended up buying it, because she needed it. Said it's really really comfortable, and it supports the "girls" really well!!!
I love classic Reeboks for walking - what shoes did you just get?!?

Thanks o1darcie1o!
I just got New Balance 608s. I had been walking in New Balance 490s, which I thought were the best for walking. They were better for me than most other shoes -- I have wide feet and a bad ankle.
But these 608s (cross trainers) are just... incredible. They totally support my ankles and have more cushioning so the impact is less, but yet don't sqeeze my feet too much. I just want to walk and walk and walk in them.
*heavy sigh* expensive bras, huh? Oh the price of being overweight! If only, if only....
I'm at 278 -- you guys think I can use the ball?

Two things on sportswear: 1) I wear Saucony's because I have narrow heels and wide fronts, and they're great! :D, and 2) my doctor told me to wear an underwire bra (yes, it's true) under my sports bra to avoid possible muscle injuries because I'm a 38DD and gravity can kill ya if ya bounce around in aerobics or jog or whatever. ;) Sorry if that was tmi. *grin*
that's interesting writestuff, I've never heard that before...
Is it comfortable to wear a bra under a sportsbra?
Is it comfortable to wear a bra under a sportsbra?
For me, when I'm doing aerobics in airconditioning, yes. Just for walking outside, it gets very hot, so I only wear an underwire I've designated the "workout" bra and a T-shirt. :) Apparently, you can tear (I want to say) your pecs?? At the very least, jogging or lots of bouncing can cause stretching of the tissue, and I don't want that. :D
Great list Obsydian!!! Thanks for all your hardwork!!!
Great list!
You guys encourage me by your discussion! I've been at this my whole adult life, but I'm ready for the mass destruction of change in me. I've lost my first 3 pounds and I'm invigerated. Isn't that hilarious? 3 lbs and I'm jumping for joy! 259, friends! yeah!
I've found, in the past, that good shoes has to be a priority, and the exercise ball is great for sit ups. The other way to use the ball is to lay on the floor, put your feet up on the top of the ball, your hands down flat on the sides of you, and lift your body up..... ouch... but it's the good ouch!
You all didn't know it, but you're encouraging me in huge amounts! Thank you!

I love the "peer pressure" in here... it's the good kind. ;) Everyone's always talking about what good foods they ate and what exercise routines that they've done and it's just... motivating. :)
We try, beanie. We really do. We all want everyone to succeed! :D
Why hilarious, Bstill? If I were down even 2 lbs., I'd be jumping around like nobody's business!! LOL
That list sounds great to me! and btw- i wear a regular support bra- no underwire- under my sports bras all the time. My girls are pretty huge, so there's no way around it for me. i usually close the bra using the last set of hooks( the loosest set) so i can breath. it helps a lot. I have a take on saggy skin also, which is- dont worry about it! just get to the point where you have some, then consider your options!
Would like to ask the ladies in the club, do you have a really hard time staying on diet and motivating to exercise around that particularly time of the month we ALL know about! That is my worst binge time, and exercise procrastination time, and wondering how to work through this! The list is great, knowing that we are all in the same situation and working through this together is extremely motivating for me!
The best I can do durring that time of the month is maintain. I give up on excercizing completely- cause I suffer from really bad cramps and overall fatigue. for me- its a bit hard to eat at all some days becuse of my symptoms. I suggest that u try to continue on your meal plan- but not at maintenance level, and skip workouts on days you feel really bad. trust me, 3 days- to 1 week off will not destroy you, as long as you get right back on the horse after its all done with. My approach now is realizing that weightloss is not an all or nothign deal. if i have a few bad days, they dont matter- as long as I keep moving ahead.
Good approach, thank you bgc3!
Can you add to the list a topic just about emotional eating and hormonal eating. Sorry Guys but I need suggestions on how to get better during that time of the month. I loose valuable time during that week and feel it is very distructive to what I have been working on. I am one right now and struggleing.
