Can I still lose?
Ok, Well Im very lazy. I hate exercising, actually, quite frankly I don't exercise. If I do, it's like a miracle. So I've just re-started my diet today. And I want to know if I can lose weight by just eating healthy, about 1300-1400 calories and still lose weight if I dont exercise at all. I have a pretty sedentary job, I sit at a desk all day. I then go home and sit at the computer or watch tv then go to sleep. So yea...anyone can help?
Here are my stats:
Height: 5'8"
Weight: 140 lbs
Goal Weight: 130-135 lbs
(It may sound like im small, but I dont hide my weight well at all, im chubby)
Size:6-10
Any help is appreciated. I dont want to lose much, just a few pounds.
I used the "burn meter" on this site to check your daily calorie use, and if you are still relatively young (I guesstimated your age as 25), you burn about 1700 cals a day without exercise. Since you are already at a BMI of 21.5ish, you will find it hard to lose those last few pounds but the small deficit you aim for (300 cals/day if you eat about 1400 cals a day) may work to your advantage. Remember it would take about 11-12 days to see 1 lb. loss at that rate, but it may be the only way.
Here's a thought--tone up with some weight training, nothing heavy duty but enough to give you some shape. That will make you LOOK smaller without necessarily changing your weight. A lot can be done at home with free weights and creative use of household items (ask on the fitness forum; people have amazing lists of what to use instead of weights or machines!).
Good luck, either way. You are pretty much the perfect weight for your height, so keep your goals realistic!

I'm no sportswoman either but I do appreciate that regular exercise reduces my risk of heart-disease, Type II diabetes and high blood pressure. So it's a bit of a no-brainer. It's not necessary to go to a gym... just try to be more active in your daily life. Taking the stairs instead of the lift, parking further from your destination, dig the garden, any opportunity you get to 'move' rather than 'sit' is helping you control your weight but, more importantly, improve your long-term health prospects.
How about investing in an exercise bike? Stand it opposite the TV and the drying paint and pedal for half an hour....

In the past what have done as far as exercise? I know you stated that you are lazy and do not like exercise, but we might be able to find something fun for you. To many folks work out endless hours in a Gym not knowing what to do and get discouraged.

Thank you for the replies.
To clear some things up-I am young, Im 18 :)
Also, some exercises I did before were like, walking outside for like 30 mins, the elliptical at the gym, taebo and frim dvds...thats about it. But I HATE working out. I also did soccer for about 3 years, but I stopped earlier this year around May.
The exercise bike is a good idea, but I dont really have the moeny to afford it.
How about something else more sociable then? If you liked soccer, maybe you enjoyed the sociable aspect..... Join a salsa/line-dancing class, get out, meet people and move at the same time? Or what about something completely off the wall like trampolining lessons, dog training, bell-ringing or having a crack at archery? Take a friend along so that it's more fun. There are so many courses on offer at local colleges and leisure centres. You don't have to do it for ever, just sign up for an 8 week course so that you're always trying out something different and fresh... BTW... come February second-hand exercise bikes are v cheap on E-Bay!!! ![]()
There are also 'practical' activities you can try. Conservation groups are often looking for people to clear woodlands or repair footpaths. Charities can always use weekend volunteers. I'm sure there are others.
There are lots of ways to be fit and active that don't involve so much as a whiff of lycra. Good luck
