Lose some inches of 'em hips, help!
So I have been blessed/cursed with a set of hips that aren't really proportional to my upper half. My hips measure rougly 39inches while my waist is 27 and bust is 33. How do I lose inches off my hips/inner thighs? I just want to make my body a bit more balanced out. Maybe get my hips down to 36/37 inches....
Liposuction? Sorry, I'm afraid there's no good answer to this. Our bodies burn fat in whatever order they damn well please. We can't spot reduce. You can lose weight and eventually you'll have to burn fat in your hips and thighs. On the bright side, pear shaped people have a lower risk of heart disease and you have a very healthy waist to hip ratio.
urgh lip thats it! I seem to lose all my weight from chest which well really sucks! Then I pack on the inches from below my belly button to mid thigh. Unfortunate genetics I guess.
On the other hand - you won't lose weight where there are no extra fat stores or muscle mass. So whatever you do is likely to result in weight lost on your hips and thighs anyway.
i have bigger hips too!! like 40 inches....and i've always had them since high school, maybe even 8th grade!! a blessing in disguise maybe when it's time to use these birthing hips..... :)
For the first time ever I lost weight in my hips and thighs. In all of my previous attempts all the weight loss came out of my chest. Since January, I lost 15 pounds, but get this I dropped 3 pants sizes while my shirt size remained the same. I dont' know if my body type has changed because I'm getting older (42) or what.
Previoiusly I just cut back on calories to lose weight. This time my weight loss plan included
- taking in 1400 - 1600 calories per day
- 30 minutes on the eliptical 2 days per week
- 25 minutes doing weights and sit ups 2 days per week
- and playing tennis 2 days per week for 90 minutes each day
The weights were all upper body and core weights because Ii have a bad knee and cannot do any quad or hamstring work. I also cannot do lunges or squats. I say this because I didn't target my hips and thighs with exercises, but with the cardio and weights I lost the weight where I needed too.
I have the same problem! This last time around, however, I started running and doing pilates and other workouts for my abs/ hips/ thighs, and I will say that focusing on my lower body helped (I've lost 3 inches off my hips but only 1 total from the entire up-top region). My hips still do and will always look bigger than the rest of me - 'cause they are! - but it doesn't hurt to really target muscles in that region of the body and just see if it helps.

What makes you think that you're disproportionate? From Wikipedia: "Some researchers have found that the waist-hip ratio (WHR) is a significant measure of female attractiveness. Women with a 0.7 WHR are usually rated as more attractive by men from European cultures.[13] Such diverse beauty icons as Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren and even the Venus de Milo all have or had ratios close to 0.7, even though they all have different weights and heights"
27/39=0.692.
It a personal opinion I guess. Just when i'm wearing a bathing suit of something you can tell I'm bottom heavy because of my hips so I would like to lose a few inches.
Hmm, you might want to build up your shoulders a bit then, to balance out?
