Lose 20 lb. by September 15th

Quote  |  Reply

I'm 19 years old and just finished my freshman year of college. I'm 5'4 and 157 lb. My goal weight is 125 but for now I want to lose the first 20 lb. By September 15th I would like to lose the first 20 and then the other 12 lb. by December. I leave the first week of January for 7 months to go study abroad in Italy and visit my family in Croatia. We can weigh our selves every Monday and post our losses (hopefully).

Good luck to everyone that joins!

You guys are more than welcome to join! Good luck! Is everyone ready to do the weigh in this Monday?

also, I will throw in my measurements whenever I get a measuring tape haha. Can you guys give me any good excersises (I do a lot of jogging and some workout videos), but I tend to get bored easily, and thats usually what makes me quit for a while.

I think I'm the biggest girl here. :X

5'6", 218. 38-37-47. Ughhhh. At least I know I have a waist...I'll be ready for the weigh in on Monday - weights, sneakers and bike with me!

Spring5, do Taebo! I swear by it.

If you can't do that, then start weight training. Great way to tone up.

sorry spring... my exercise is boring these days... walk/jog/run/swim lots of cardio... burns mad calories though.  The only bit I do that's fun is surfing.. but I don't think of that as exercise.  Its kind of like calling meditation exercise.  if that makes sense.

as for this whole measurements thing.. yeah.. I'm not sure I want to go with those.. no idea how measurements work on guys.. and I seem to be the only one here!!!!

Hey guys!

I'm 20, 5'3", and I weigh 135 lbs.  I would love to be back down to 115 by September 15th!

You know what I just realized... I never thought about how guys do their measurements lol

Bohdan - Thats awesome about the surfing. Do you live in California? I'm from New York and I dont think most people surf here lol

Spring5 - I've been focusing a lot on cardio just because it burns a lot of calories... Now that my summer classes are starting, I'm taking 3 credits in June and than 3 in July, I'm going to finally get a good routine going with work, school, and the gym. Did you ever think about joing a gym? The one near me is cool because it offers classes like kickboxing, yoga, pilates, aerobics... so I never get bored when I go.

Good luck everyone... we'll see what will happen tomorrow :)

Hi! I'm, 20, 5'2" and 147.8 lbs :(  I'd like to get down to 125 by my 21st birthday, which is September 25, so the 15th is a good goal date.

A mini goal is to get to 130 by August 23 (when I start classes again)

Yay, I'll be ready for weigh in on Monday (although the 147.8 is from today, so I don't know how much change there'll be!)

To answer Spring's question about boredom with exercise-

I find the best way to enjoy exercise is to set either workout specific goals or long-term goals and then to train for them.  I also like to wear a heart rate monitor so I have something to focus on while doing cardio.  My worst workouts are the ones where I decide to just "do the elliptical" without any specific idea of what I want out of the workout.  I need to decide to do 2minute on / 2 minute off fast intervals with my heart rate between 165-180bpm for 30 minutes with a 5 min warm up / 5 min cool down for example.    Also, with strength training, I find that recording my reps/weights on all exercises and doing the final set of each exercise to failure (so I feel like the workout really did something) helps me stay interested - I've been lifting like this for about 3 months and now have visible muscle changes which motivates me even more!

Don't know if that helps you at all...

I too am ready for the weigh in on Monday! Hopefully the number on the scale will not shock me too much but sometimes those shocks are a good wake up call.

Spring 5: Why don't you try some interval training too, alternate between sprinting, jogging and walking. I find this less boring than going for a Jog for an hour. Also interval training is good because it doesn't allow your body to get used to one particular pace.  Also try some martial arts! very fun and especially good after a stressful day at work. I also agree with Cindy about setting goals, it helps me stay focussed and forces me not to give up till I've reached them.

Bohdan - I think for guys they tend to measure the chest, upper arms, around the belly button/waist. Alternatively you can measure 3 parts of your body where you'll most like to lose weight or the largest parts.

I have to think about what i'm going to eat for breakfast tomorrow, usually I'll have a flapjack, scone or hot cross bun at work, not very healthy I know. I will try and make time to have some branflakes before I leave for work.
Godess don't fret! at 5"1 and 181 lbs (oh yeah guys I lost a lb sorry I'll weigh in again tommorow I promise :P) I'm a big girl too! Infact I'd wager we're about the same dress size wise cos you have height to carry your weight so dinni fret me lass.
Also guys I added to my personal measurements my ass (which is enormous) so I go 42-34(yeah measured again too lost an inch! :D)-42 and I was 45 and now I'm 44.5 Ass wise

42-34-42-44.5

I'm no longer in heart disease danger!
GUYS! I realised I've been reading my scale wrong. I read my initial weight of 182 lbs (13 stone) right cos i was 13 stone exactly. But theres only 6 notches between each stone on my scale. I weighed myself again and since yesterday I've gone down another notch meaning I've lost 4lbs! since Wednesday!
Well done Shanonna!!!

I doubt I have gone done, in fact I bet I'll be +1lb tomorrow, I look like I'm about to pop out a baby anytime so, hopefully by tomorrow my stomach would have gone down some.
hell yeah it will

i hate gettin bloated but you can hardly ever tell when i am, only i can tell

Thanks for the support! Laughing

Are you a 16 by any chance? Clothes swap time if so! Tongue out

Oh yeah...congrats on the weight loss!

Actually I'm an 18 only very rarely do I fit a 16! I would be upset but sizes don't matter much to me, I wish we could just have inches like men do, it seems grossly unfair. and thank you for the congrats, I imagine it'll fluctuate and since it's only the first week I'm bound to have a more dramatic weightloss, I'm aiming for 1-2lbs a week

yep :)  most people don't surf here either.. fear of sharks and cold water :)

its monday am.. weigh in time, weeee!

My scale at home gave me two numbers this am, 180.0 and 178.6.  I'm keeping the lower of the two, b/c I can :D

good luck everyone!

147.4---down .4 from yesterday, which was surprising!

at least week 1 is in the negative :)

good luck to all!!

this morning i did this 'extreme strength' class and all we did was arms for like an hour--seriously kicked my assss.....i did like 200 pushups (did not know that was possible)

I was 128.4 this morning.  .4 down from BW.  Not bad considering I went out for a birthday dinner on Friday night and my husband bought me ice cream yesterday....  I'll definetely try for better this week.
