Can I lose 26 lbs by Christmas?

Quote  |  Reply
Hello all,

I am trying to go back to my old weight of 112 by Christmas.  I am currently 138 lbs as of today September 25, 2008.  Is it possible to loose the 26 lbs by Christmas in a healthy way?  Here are my stats:

Female * 5'2" * Small frame/petite

How many calories should I be consuming every day and what about workouts? EEk!  I need help...

There are 12 more weeks until Christmas , right? So that's max 24 lbs...give or take...which means you can easily aim for 20 lbs loss or so , to be on the safe side

Set your account correctly (weight, height, age, activity level, goal date) and it will tell you how much to eat.

I'm also 5'2" and now 124.5 lbs. My BMR is little over 1300 cal for sedentary. So to find how much to eat, i add the exercise and then take 500 cal off the number (usually less b/c i cannot work out much all the time) to get me around 1200 cal to eat.

can u?  yes.  in a healthy way?  no.  slow and steady wins the race...

So should I push more for like 24 lbs best case scenario?  The Holiday seasons are always tough so I figure that if I can survive through that I should prob be okay.  So 1200 cals you say?  What about excercise?

If you try to restrict to the lowest possible calorie intake and exercise a ton in hopes of losing as much as possible as fast as possible, you'll probably end up in a bad spot during the holidays because you will be so deprived feeling that you'll end up eating everything you can at holiday celebrations, especially if you feel like you "failed" because you didn't lose the 24 pounds you were hoping for and get frustrated. At your height and weight, I honestly do not think you should try to go for more than around 15 pounds, at the most. It isn't safe to lose more than 1 percent of your current body weight per week.

I'm also in the same shoes. I'm 5'2.5'' and currently around 132.  It fluctuates anywhere from 130-134.

I've lost 45 pounds a little over a year ago, and also hoping to get down to 110-115.

It looks like that's not happening anytime soon.  My lowest was around 125.

I've tried exercising, swimming, weights, but nothing came off.  Now I'm so busy at work, I can't even work out anymore, so I try to make the most of my walking (walking to walk, take walks on lunch breaks, etc).

I don't have any new advice for you.  But if you want to jumpstart your diet, try to eat dinner earlier -- like before 6pm.  Right now, I'm simply eating less, watching portions, and stay away from sweets and greasy food.  Oh yeah, and I love green tea.

So we've got about 13 weeks left before the New Years!  Let's do it! (How? I'm not so sure, hehe..but I really don't think you can go wrong with calorie counting.)  Good luck.

i agree with skwinkle.  if u try to loose too much, the holiday food will be that muhc more tempting.  i'm not saying you shouldn't try and havea  goal, but that maybe you should make it less aggressive so that you don't end up gaining it all back during the holidays.

i totally thing its possible, i know people say you should loose more than 1 to 2 pounds a week to be healthy, but lke that really happens sometimes u loose 1 to 4 pounds a week depending on how hard you work out, how you eat, and how far along into loosing weight you are, when you first start it comes off faster you know?

ive lost 7 pounds so far in 2 weeks, and my goal is to loose 30 MORE by christmas and i SO CAN DO IT, and u can too, we just have to stick to counting calories and working out, its hard sometimes! but just think how happy you will be when you are at your goal weight!

We should start a self motivating group ourselves! I know that 26 seems like an extreme, but I don't think that reaching for it is out of hand. I bet you there are other people pushing for the same. I think I had also failed to mention that I was kind of depressed the first half of the year and that was how I gained the 30 lbs in 6 months in the first place! Now that I have myself back together I figure I might as well get back in shape.

I'd say aim for 20 lbs and you will lose inches anyway. If you do more exercise than me, you can eat more than 1200 cal :) I only burn 600 cal by cardio each week which is 4 x 15-20 min on the stepper....so , not that much. I'm also stuck at the computer for 8 hrs a day  at least...

I had a year staying at 124-130 lbs...until several days ago when I had a shock abt hubby's possible business trip and i couldn't eat for 2 days...ok, i did eat but not enough...lost 5 lbs in 3 days :( yesterday, i ate more and today i was still down at 124.5 lbs...evidently it's not something i wanted or planned for but it surely opened my eyes abt my weight...

do something to shock your body; either it's a totally new diet or new exercise, play wt the calories - calorie cycling - and drink enough water.

green tea is also a very good help; drink 4-5 cups a day and it will help you get rid of the extra water in the body.

no i dont think it will be possible for u unfortunately, but u will be able to be half way there i think :) easy does it, lose weight on here slowly, but properly :)

fyi there are tools on here to find out what ur calorie consumption should be, but the main rule is to never go under 1200.

im short and petite like u and i consume between 1200-1300 calories a day and at this rate i can lose around 1-2 lbs a week.

I have lost just over 25 lbs. since July 18th so it is possible! Its been 2 months and one week, I have about 24 to go and I am hoping to be there by Christmas although I know it gets harder with the last pounds and the first pounds are easy! I eat about 1200-1400 a day with excercise 4-5 times per week. 5'6'' and 23/F.
