Lose 10 lbs before the NEW YEAR! - 10 by 2010!
I want to lose 10 lbs. My goal is to lose as much as possible by Jan 1, 2010. I think 10 lbs is probably unattainable but I have to set my goal high to accomplish even half of it.
Who's in?
We weigh in every Monday. It's not a competition per se but rather a chance to motivate one another and give each other ideas for success and a chance to tell our story.
Send me your weights by PM tomorrow and I will update the thread.
ALL ARE WELCOME ANYTIME!

Im in! Last year I lost 26 pounds, but then when I started working (I was a student) then it was winter, I started to slip, I have gained about 7 pounds and so would love to get back to where I was for Xmas and New Year!
So:
SW: 150
GW: 143
Me Me! Pick me!!
I have been trying to lose these last 10 sticky pounds for months now...
SW: 145
GW: 135
Me too! That's right on target for where I want to be by the first of the year! Come on 2010!
SW: 129
GW: 119
I'll get in on this! I lost about 15 pounds over the past year and have gained about 4 of them back, so it's been quite hard lately to get myself motivated.
SW: 135
GW: 125
Ok guys, we are in! We have two months to accomplish our goals. Let's keep the thread as active as possible and keep recruiting to keep it lively! :)
I updated the OP so check it out. Weigh ins on Monday.
Here is my story: I gained 12 lbs since my wedding Sept 6th 2008. By my wedding day I had lost 30-35 lbs from my starting weight using Calorie Count - I went from a very unhappy BMI of 25 down to 19) ... so although I don't really expect to get back to my wedding weight, I do hope to lose at least 5 lbs. I felt perfect at roughly 105 lbs (I am 5"1" and this gives me a BMI of just a hair shy of 20). I know I can do it if I exercise self control as I *know* I gained merely through a lack of self control (I loooove to eat and since I am married it seems it's all I ever do since I now have a house/home of my own).
So tonight for dinner (since I had a pretty low cal day so far), I am having acorn squash (yes with butter *and* sugar) and a chicken filet baked with spinach. No rice!
I am not really counting but trying to stay accountable. But generally, I am aiming for about 1500-1700 calories a day. I know I can lose on 1500 a day as that's how I lost the 30lbs to begin with. If I don't satiate myself I won't be able to keep this up.
Any updates today? I just polished off a tasty salad for dinner and there is room for treats. I am feeling good about this ... yesterday I was at 1700 and woke up feeling great. I may make around 1500-1600 today. Good things are happening here ...
Way to go nycgirl! Here's MY story:
I ran cross country in high school, and my senior year, I was down to 115 pounds (I'm 5'2)...that was my lowest weight! However, after that, I began binge eating...and have yo-yo dieted every so often. For my wedding in May of this year, I was down to 121 again...and since getting married, I have gained about 7 pounds! (ERG!).
My biggest problem with weight loss is that I LOVE food, and the best way for me to keep weight off is to exercise...but when I can't find time (or make excuses) for exercise, I keep eating the same (or more) and gain weight.
NO MORE! Ha ha...I want to eat healthier and be healthier...you all understand, I know! Anyway, I'm trying to exercise daily again, and my biggest hope is to get a decent mileage for running going again...I've tried before and gotten injured, so I'm trying to take it SLOWLY!
Anyway, the past two days have been good for me so far...I worked out both days, and kept within my calorie ranges! (1400 for yesterday, 1200-1300 today)! Keep up the good work everyone!
Thanks for sharing your story bas5z9! I too was working out for the first time in my life all summer and keeping my weight under control (at least I wasn't gaining anymore than I already had since my wedding). I then had another miscarriage though and haven't gotten back to working out. I definitely need to, maybe this weekend.
How do you keep your cal intake so low? What is an example of what you eat? I need inspiration, I would love to keep my intake between 1200-1500 instead of 1500-1800.
I'm so sorry about the miscarriage(s) :( That's got to make it hard to want to do anything...! But, keep up exercising (or get back to it, rather)...the endorphins that result will help you feel peppier (even if you have good reasons not to).
The best way for me to keep my calorie level lower is to make a lot of my stuff at home. I hardly eat out so I can control my salt intake as well as my calorie and fat intake. I take my lunch to work and to class in a small lunchbag/cooler. It works well for me, but I understand that some people have trouble doing that. Here's an example of what I ate today:
Breakfast: Chocolate blueberry spinach smoothie (SO good!) -- if you want the recipe, I'll give it to you! (290 cals)
Lunch: 100g (19 pieces) tri color tortellini (the frozen kind - less sodium, I think) with 1/4 cup marinara sauce, 2/3 cup frozen mixed veggies (275 cals)
Snack: nonfat yogurt, harvest powerbar, "healthy honey coffee" (another one of my awesome recipes, ha ha...it's mostly milk) (490 cals)
Dinner: red baked potato with 1/4 cup reduced fat cheddar, 2 tbsp fat free sour cream, 1 can tuna (rinsed for lower sodium) with 1/4 cup homemade pico de gallo (435 cals)
TOTAL: 1490 cals
I usually have quite a few staples that I eat MOST days if not all...such as: Harvest Powerbars (as snacky/meal replacement), Smoothies (that include fruits and veggies and nonfat dairy), and I try to carry around celery or carrots to eat in between meals, and...I don't know. I am especially picky about what I buy...it takes me a long time to get groceries sometimes because different brands have very different nutritional facts depending on the product. For instance, our store brand of wheat bread has 100 calories for 2 slices and the similar name brand has 140 for 2 slices.
I hope I didn't write you TOO long of a novel! :)
Hey guys anything to report?
Thanks for the great suggestions bas5z9, I want to try those smoothies sooo bad.
The past few days have been bad for me. I ate out both nights with two glasses of wine both nights, so know my WL for this week is probably in a slump. But that's ok, I am sticking with it.
Anyone else?
10 by 2010 baby!
I seem to be doing alright this week...yesterday, all I wanted to do was eat! ha ha....I ended up eating some m&ms, cookie dough, and some candy (not a HUGE amount, although it all sounds like a lot, doesn't it?)...but it was okay. Sometimes you need that, I guess (sometimes I need that).
I ran this morning, did the elliptical, and did my day 5! of JM's 30 day shred. Here's the recipe for the blueberry smoothie:
1 6oz nonfat yogurt (I like blueberry, but it tastes good with any flavor, really)
1/2 cup nonfat milk
2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tbsp protein powder
1-2 cups spinach (i just use a big handful)
1 cup frozen blueberries
Blend until smooth! :)
Thanks for the recipe. Where do you buy the protein powder??
I got my protein powder (EAS Vanilla) at my local grocery store...and most grocery stores carry some sort of protein powder.
How is everyone doing?! Don't let this challenge die! Remember tomorrow is our first weigh-in, how does everyone think they did?
I'd love to join this challenge! It's so on track for what my goals are.
Right now I'm 137.4. And I've been annoying hovering around that for the past couple of weeks. I've decided to get much more serious about losing the weight. I started slacking there for a while
. So it's back to the grind! By 2010 my goal is actually more like 129 (I'm aiming for 1 lb a week), but if I could get to 127 that would be fantastic! My ultimate goal by the time I graduate college in May is somewhere between 115 and 120. Not sure yet. (I'm barely 5'4")
My motivation is definitely lacking though so it'll be great to be held accountable by all of you!
I love this challenge! I hopped online looking for exactly THIS thread! So, I'm happy to join you. I’m starting out substantially more “Rubenesque” than you all, so I believe that I can lose the ten pounds, and with your mutual encouragement, I think/hope I can lose even more than that. I’m starting at 186 lb. eeeekk!
I notice that we all seem to have at least one thing in common, notably up-and-down scales. Ugh. I can so relate. But if you’re the Yo-Yo Kids, then I’m surely the Yo-Yo Ma! And I say that b/c especially after having kids, the lose-gain-lose-gain thing has gotten totally out of hand for me. Not good.
Thank you, NYCGirl, for starting this challenge! Yes, I hope we can make this as interactive as possible for mutual support and motivation. I love Calorie Count and I have successfully lost weight here. But unfortunately the only challenge I’ve joined was one where there was little interaction (mostly people just logging in on weigh-in day to report results). But I think a successful challenge is about more than just weigh-in results. The journey is also important. Discovering and sharing strategies can be quite valuable.
So I say, what goes up, must come down (and hopefully stay down). I’m all in!
Happy Weigh In Day!!
This morning I was 142.8 down from 145. I think I could only lose that much weight because I finally got strict about my diet after basking in the glory of vegan junk food for the last three months...and we were moving so there was a lot of heavy box lifting and running up and down three flights of stairs. Woo hoo!!
How is everyone else doing?!?!!
LW: 137.8
CW: 136.6
Sweetness! Not sure why that happened but I'm lovin it! It may be a bit of water weight b/c I'm working on getting the right amount of water back into my diet and I drank A LOT yesterday. But it's all good! Here's to another week of awesome eating! :)
Happy weigh-in day! I was doing REALLY WELL for the first FOUR days this week...and then I just stopped. I don't know why!
My weights WERE:
SW: 129
CW: 126 (on Wednesday...I think the 129 was water/salt gain because I had a lot of salty foods last Sunday before weighing in on Monday)
(This morning, though, I was 129 again...salty foods for that past three days :()....I'm going to do it, though! I started out this morning with my smoothie! (Chocolate Strawberry instead of blueberry).
Keep up the good work everyone! Keep your heads up!
Okay, here's my first weigh-in and starting weight: 186 lb. I see some good losses already for you three. Congrats! I'm glad to be in this challenge.
Confession (already!!): I binged on cookies yesterday and I haven't done that in ages, but once I had one, it set off the avalanche of the rest...grrr. I think because I had eaten so few calories yesterday that I was extra vulnerable. But, No cookies this week. Gotta manage my intake better...
What is the diet for kidney stones?
For kidney stones, you should drink at least three to four quarts of fluid (preferably water) everyday. There are several kinds of kidney stones... Read more
