100+ Pounds to Lose---we can do it!! Monday weigh ins. (start 1/7/08)

Quote  |  Reply

Hey Everyone,

Well, here is it, a new challenge for those looking to lose 100+ pounds.  I would like for everyone who is a first time poster to give a little introduction of themselves (include height, weight, age and anything else you would like)!

I'm hoping that this challenge can not only look at how we're doing in terms of numbers, but serve as a way to motivate eachother.  If you had an extremely challenging week, let us know.  If you found an awesome exercise or healthy snack food, let us know.  If you have anything, good or bad, that helped (or hurt) your weight loss (and overall health for the week), let us know!!

I'm figuring the weekly template can be something like:

Starting weight/date: XXXXX lbs XXXXXX (for me, 298 lbs 12/18/07)

Weight last weight in: XXXXXX lbs

Weight this week: XXXXXX lbs

and then list challenges, good, bad, etc. afterwards.

I would love to say I would do points and keep a tally, but honestly, I know it will be tough to keep up with everyone's TERRIFIC progress!! Hopefully we can all take a look at this and celebrate everyone's successes together.

Our first weigh in will be January 7, 2008.  Feel free to join whenever you like and give your introduction :-)

Let's do this together!!!

:-)

Welcome everyone and glad you're with us!  Don't worry, this group will not close and anyone can join at any time!  If you have family or friends who are also looking for some encouragement, please tell them to swing by the CC site!

Looking forward to the weigh in tomorrow because even though I didn't eat fantastically this weekend, I noticed definitely changes in my eating choices.  Case in point, we ordered pizza on Friday (fiance's sister and her fiance came over and wanted pizza).  Anyway, normally I could demolish half a pizza, easy...well, I practiced self restraint and actually ate two pieces---and felt satisfied and full! Hahaha

Small steps...small steps!

Seriously, I'm really feeling great, hit the gym today and feeling positive I'm doing something positive for myself!

For our next weigh in:  In addition to those ever so important statistics, I'd love for us to each share a snack item we each enjoy that is healthy and diet friendly :-)  We never know what new ideas we may hear and actually want to try!

Joining now..

Name is Elise

Age is 41

Start date and Weight: 1/10/2008  251lbs

Weight today: 1/13/2008 248lbs

Do not really have a goal date, though this site says it is like January of 2010.

Would really like to be at 170, but this site says i could get to 143 and still be in the middle fo the range, thus in the 100+ to lose category. ugh.

Mom of two, a four year old and a five year old.

Challenges:  A severe, addictive love of Fritos, while hating the whole prep work involved in making a salad.  Oh yeah, and a hubby that is hot, and thinks i am not. :-(, and a job that allows us meals for $3.65 a day, if we want to eat anything!!! And zip for time to go work out.

Strengths:  Not really caring what he thinks hee hee hee, and kids that do not stop running from dawn to dusk, a salad bar in the dining hall, and free gym membership )yes, free, with state of the art everything, and never ever any lines...you would think i could get it together huh?

Thanks for letting me join you..

Hi Everyone,

I'll start the Monday weigh-ins since its almost noon on Monday my time (Nepal!).

Down 1 pound this week for a total of 31.2 lost! Yesterday my husband and I rode our bikes to the animal shelter to volunteer, almost uphill the whole way! So despite not making the best food choices, I was still at my calories. I'm pretty excited that since joining (Jan 5) I've gotten all A's, except on Saturday's when I get B's (that's when we always go out to eat).

For snacks...I'm actually really love snacking on fresh fruit and veggies. Strawberries are in season for us right now, so have been eating lots of those. I also like Goldfish crackers, and of course the Wasa crackers with light Laughing Cow cheese. Trader Joe's fruit bars are good. Popcorn is another favorite.

Hope everyone has good WIs today!

Hello everybody,

I have been using my snacks to get in my fruits and veggies. I like the dole fruit cups or other fresh fruit. I also like to snack on butter snap pretzels they are yummy. They are Snyder's brand and they have a little more flavor than regular pretzels.

Start weight 237

Last week 234

This week 231

Yeah!! I am happy with my progress. I did walk three times last week and went to the gym this morning. I am looking forward to seeing how everyone else has done. This site is such a motivation for me. Good Luck to ALL!

Starting weight/date: 246 lbs 01/08/08

Weight last weight in: 246 lbs 01/08/08

Weight this week: 241.6 lbs  01/14/08

Loss so far:  4.4 lbs!  :-D

Yay!  Almost under 240!  I even allowed myself to enjoy a nice big juicy london broil on the George Foreman grill on Saturday, and marinated in a light ranch dressing.  Went to a birthday party that night and stayed away from the cake, having an apple I brought with me instead haha.  And the next morning my boyfriend an I walked a little over a mile.  So far, doing good!

Tastiest diet-snack?  Well, to be honest, I haven't been depriving myself of too much, just replacing it with a healthier version, or just controlling my portions...  For my pasta and pizza cravings, I grab lean cuisines version.  For ice cream, I have a skinny cow bar.  For chocolate, a small square or 2 of dark chocolate.  And I love the 100 calorie packs of goldfish, pretzels, or popcorn... I bring one of them with me to work every day for in the afternoon.

First, my favorite snack food is steamed veggies with a little bit of parmesan on it. Of course you have to reheat them, but they are great! Now for the weigh-in...

Starting weight: 329.2

Last weigh in: 324.4

Weight this week: 321.4

So that is 3 lbs. But...I weighed in last week on Wednesday, so technically that is 3 lbs in 5 days :) But a total of 7.8. That makes me pretty darn happy!!!

I almost forgot to add in 2 suggestions for you guys!

If any of you like kiwi, try just bringing one with you to work and cut it in half.  Then just scoop the inside out with a spoon and eat it like that.  This time of year is pretty much when kiwi is in season, so lots of stores have it in stock.  Also watch for golden kiwi, it's less sour and more sweet, and a lot softer.  (Apparently you can eat the skin too, but I'm not really a fan).

And a quick marinade for chicken that I find particularly delicious and good for salads... mix up some  lemon juice, terragon, and parsley in a bag (I don't really track amounts, sorry), allow to marinade as long as possible to absorb flavor, and then grill it all up!

Starting weight/date: 274 lbs  1/1/08

Weight this week: 268 lbs 1/14/08

Loss to date = 6 lbs ***I'm feeling good***

After reading about the couch to 5K program on here, I got really motivated and started the training.  I'm training on Thursday, Saturday, and Monday - so two down for the first week!  Along with my motivation I've signed up with a group from work for the 5K leg of a marathon in April - so I have to be ready!  The group at the office is very supportive.

As for snacks, I'm with groupie - I haven't been depriving myself either - but I love my chewy granola bars from wal-mart - 110 calories per bar.  It's a quick snack and I get my fill of chocolate.

I hope everyone is doing well today!

Last week: 234

Today: 233.4

Loss = 0.6

Better than nothing! :)

My big deal this week was going out to play tennis with DH after not playing for 5-6 months (with heart attack 3 mos ago)  Doc cleared me to play over a month ago, but I've been too timid.  Went yesterday just to hit around, and all went well.  Still not the greatest player, but it's the only exercise I truly look forward to, so maybe there'll be more in my near future!   Yippee!!!

Jan 2nd: 223.5

Today's weight: 221

Loss to date: -2.5

I'm pretty unhappy with myself lately. I couldn't beat my cravings so far this month. I am a fiend for candy and caved in. Yell I'm mad because I have been working out quite a lot and I'm not seeing results because of stupid candy!! GRR

My mom agreed that when I lose 50lbs she will take me to get my hair cut and dyed.  I haven't gotten a hair cut, or a dye in over 6 months. Being a college student, I can't afford it! I have to get down to 215 so I can get my reward!

Come on guys, scold me, I deserve it, lol. I need to get back on track regarding food!

jfreak - try the 90 calorie chewy bars :-)   a little better for you but the same great taste!

Goal Weight: 145lbs

I have found that the Weight Watchers mini cake bites are delicious.  They are small, but very satisfying.  I love the carrot cake with only 90 calories per cake.  Another sweet I have found that has no fat is marshmellows.  I can have one 1/2 cup of them and it is only 70 calories.

I am going to try the chewy granoloa bars...I need a chocolate fix as well and if they taste good and are good for you, I am in!

Hello all---

I am 24, 5'8" and my peak weight was 260lbs.  I have been avoiding getting serious about losing weight for years---  but not any more!  I am determined to get healthy this year and can't wait to feel good about physical self.  I have a great career, a great boyfriend, and now I need what is in the mirror (and in my clothes) to match what's on the inside.

Start Weight: 260 - 12/25/2007

Weight this week: 255

 Goal weight: 160

My biggest challenge is going to be restructuring my eating habbits.  I have always been active, but I have always eaten badly.  So now it's a complete overhaul into making smart choices.  :)  So far, I am on a plan to eat every 3 hours or so.  And it seems to be working.  I'm not starving and I feel satisfied all the time.  I just need to tame my sweet tooth!

Good luck everyone!  I will be here every Monday AM to post my new LOWER weight!

 Amy

Good morning everyone!!!

Weight this week: 250.2

I'm kind of upset that I haven't lost more since I have been working my ass off, but hopefully if I stick with it I will see the results that I want.

One of my favorite foods is cheese, so I love the Laughing cow cheese spreads to put on crackers or sandwiches.  They come in the individual serving sizes so its easy to regulate and count :)

Hope you all have a wonderful week and Happy weight loss to ALL!

Try dark chocolate squares!  I just bought a pack of prepackaged ones by Dove that are DELICIOUS!  And 1 square is only 37 calories!  mmmm!

Happy Monday!

I signed up for the "New Year, New You" challenge at our gym, so I'm weighing in every Saturday and using the weight form that scale as my "official" weight for the next 12 weeks.

Weight on Jan 1, 2008 - 246

Weight Jan 12, 2008 - 238

I'm happy with 8 pounds, but I find myself with unrealistic expectations from watching shows like "The Biggest Loser."  I try to remind myself that those contestants have someone to prepare their food and push them in the gyms 8 hours a day, while I'm cooking for myself (and a husband) and working 10-12 hours a day.  Still, just once I'd like to lose 20 pounds in a week!

I'm also trying to remember this is a lifestyle and not a diet.  At least I've gotten away from my old mentality of "one slip means I'm off program."  I had a piece of cake at a funeral this afternoon and for the old me that would have been enough to make the rest of the day a free day - eat what you want, you already blew it.  Now I'm off to the gym tonight!

Have a great week.

Ann

Starting weight/date: 298lbs (12/18/07)

Weight last weight in: 292 lbs

Weight this week: 290.4 lbs

OK, it's only a loss of 1.6 pounds, but I'm OK with that!!

A snack I swear by are the 100 Calorie Packs.  I find they are great because they almost "force" you, in a sense, to ensure proper portion control.  Also, they come in so many great varieties that if you're looking for a sweet or savory treat you can have one.  Not sure if anyone on here lives near a Trader Joe's, but they now have 100 Calorie packs of cookies---I would HIGHLY recommend them!

Elise here

checking in for the week

Start weight/last week: 251 (on the 10th)

This morning: 247.5 (1/14/2008)

Ate 1880 calories today though, on what is supposed to be a 1850 day.  bummer.

I am always surprised a little when the women on biggest loser either lose nothing, or only lose like 2 lbs.  I know some are doing the huge drops every week, but the rest of the women really are just doing the regular loss.  I too would love to have a private chef, a personal coach, and nothing to do all day but take care of my own exercise and nutrition needs.  I am sure we do not see all of the story, the temptations, the struggles, the cheating, but either way, a little support would be a big plus.. thus, I am HERE, with all of you!!!

Snack food:  No suggestions, since i can't snack, or i just would cheat all day.  I have been enjoying lots and lots of decaf tea with Splenda, and about 64 oz of water.Innocent

thanks for the challenge
