Should/how should I lose muslce?
I'm trying to reach my goal weight and am very good about eating, the only problem is that the scale won't budge. I don't have a lot of excess fat on my body so it's the muscle that's making me weigh more. Any suggestions about what to do?
If you don't have any fat on you then why would you want to lose more weight? Why would you want to lose healthy muscle just to see a lower number on the scale? Makes no sense to me.
I second what trikki wrote. If you don't have a lot of excess fat, it seems unlikely that you don't look good, so why worry about a number?
Revise your goal weight. Trying to lose muscle to reach a number on the scale is a very bad idea.
I'm going to join the chorus here: there is no good reason to lose muscle. I guess it's a sign that people are too worried about a number rather than body composition, and to go to extremes I remember one person saying it very succinctly that if you just want to lose weight cut your left leg off and your weight will go down.
I assume you really are still trying to lose fat so then you need to get a better measure of fat content than a scale and go from there.
Stop moving, full stop. The only way to lose muscle is to NOT use it.
FYI, that will also make you weak, have a soft body and make it easier to gain weight in the future (since you metabolism is based on how much muscle you have, the more muscle, the higher the metabolism). But you're right, the number on the scale IS the most important thing ever, happy wasting!
I agree strongly with what everyone has said. I went through a phase where I thought I needed to lose muscle-was a soccer player my whole life so my legs have always been pretty muscular. I only ran and didn't lift, and all I got was flabby-and I didn't lose weight and looked bigger. I lost weight when I started lifting again actually. The scale takes awhile if you're doing things right and are already at a healthy weight. I honestly try to give myself a good month or two now to see any consistent drop in my weight. Give it time, if you are doing the right things, it will come off, it just may take a little while.
