How many pounds did you lose before people noticed?
So..I've lost 14 pounds so far and the only person that has noticed so far is my mom, who said she can see it in my face. My husband hasn't said anything but he's been extra touchy feely...which makes me think he's still/more happy with the way I look.
I've noticed my pants and shirts fit and feel better, and my back doesn't hurt anymore. But besides that - NOBODY has said anything to me!
How many pounds did it take you before people took notice.
BTW - this is not something I've publicized. My mom didn't even know I was dieting when she told me that. So, nobody knows (besides the hubby). I am getting to the point where I need to hear something like, "you look good!" or "it looks like you lost weight"...am I being silly?
I've lost 13 lb and nobody has noticed but me. I see a difference... all my pants except one pair that used to be too tight are now too big, and my face is less round.
While we're on the topic of clothes fillting/being too tight. I went shopping today. And I'm in between sizes! Isn't that the worst? One size up is too big, and one size down is too small or uncomfortable...
Don't you hate being in between sizes while dieting?
yeah being between sizes really sucks!!! But you can use it as a goal. I bought a dress that was WAY too tight across the chest, and I said, I will fit it by the end of the month, and you know I am just about in it now!!! w00t!!!
But still no one noticed, I think they may just notice my new hair style, and nothing else. Stupid extravagant hairstyle :P
Just because people don't comment doesn't mean they're not noticing.
They might worry about coming across as offensive (as if to say you look good now, but not so much before..)
Just a thought. People are probably noticing but might be hesistant to say something.
I am a big dude (started at 245 lbs) and people started noticing at approx 238 lbs, but I am also doing muscle toning w/ cardio so it is pretty noticeable.
You'll be able to notice more than others because you see yourself everyday. And I agree with the Belly Dancer that people, men especially, are very careful before they comment on a women’s weight in the positive or negative.
Ultimately you have to be doing this for yourself so screw everybody else.
Keep it up.
Just to expand on what subsoil and i are saying,
I had one person comment on my weight loss. I was so excited! A week later, he asks me how it's going. Of course I get paranoid like, what, cant you tell?! So I ask, do I look alright?
then he says he shouldn't comment on my looks anymore. end of conversation.
I was disappointed cause I felt like I had some encouragement when he noticed, and now he won't offer it anymore. He is married and I think he felt awkward talking about another woman's body. I just wanted someone on my "team," you know?
But I have to agree with the above post. Do it for you and screw everyone else. (:
My grandma noticed after just five pounds. I went over her house, and she was like, "you're losing weight. Your face is thinner." It took thirty five pounds for my dad to notice. Most people noticed around twenty.
Right now, after being on a plateau for oh, 8 months, I've lost ten pounds, and my grandma and my boyfriend are the only ones to really notice. But I notice and feel gooood. I described every single difference to my boyfriend last night, haha.
I notice every ten pounds or so on my boyfriend, even though I see him daily. Of course, I get to see a lot *more* of him than family, friends, or co-workers might!
Congratulations on 15 pounds-- I'm sure people will begin to notice quite soon.
People I see daily haven't said a thing about my weight loss (17 lbs). My fiance is currently living out of state and I saw him for the first time since I had lost 14 pounds and he definitely noticed and it felt great! I won't see him again for almost 6 weeks so I'm planning on losing 15 more pounds and blowing him away. Having him gone has made me work so much harder so I can have that big "reveal" moment. I have to buy new clothes but I'm not even halfway to my goal of 40 pounds and don't want to buy until I've lost more. The crotch of my jeans is almost down to my knees! I look silly but I'm enjoying every minute of it because it means I've lost weight!
At work, it wasn't until I was about 25 lbs lighter that people started to comment on it. I hadn't been able to shop for new work clothes, so I think many of them were hanging off, making the change much more noticeable! One woman told me, "My god, you're wasting away! To nothing!" which was actually not true :)
But now there are a few older women who are making me a little uncomfortable. They make comments almost daily about how I look ("lookin' good girl!") and ask me if I'm keeping up with the gym and whatnot. At first it was flattering, and I was happy to share/swap tips with them, but now I feel like I'm being scrutinized. They even called me out in front of everyone when I chose not to take a piece of someone's birthday cake. They were trying to flatter me, I think, but it's a little too much attention...
My mom noticed my weightloss right away, in my face, like a lot of other people are saying. My grandpa noticed after about 10 lbs, which was great, because he helped me pay for the personal trainer I had for a few months!
To update: I have now lost 20 pounds and PEOPLE ARE NOTICING!!! A bunch of people have said stuff like - You look great, you look like you lost weight, nice butt, You look pretty - stuff I have never got in the past few years! It feels sooooo good!!!!!
I got really sick last week and didn't go to the gym for 9 days (but still had to waitress after working my day job, and be on my feet for 6+ hours straight which still burns some calories)! But I'm back on track having gone yesterday and today...and I'm feeling good!
lol I have lost 17 pounds so far and NO one has noticed! Not even my dad! But people you havent seen in a while will notice.
Grats on the 20 lbs ceils! Yay!
I'm very overweight (265 lbs) I've lost my first 11, but don't really expect anyone to notice until I drop 40-60 lbs. Now I'm curious to see if anyone will notice my first 20 or 30!! Gives me something to look forward to, anyway.
Great job to everyone who's gotten compliments. It's great when our hard work doesn't go unnoticed!
It's time for y'all to hate me 'cause I'm a guy. I've dropped over 40 lbs so far and have been able to fit into all sorts of old clothes. People are totally noticing.
There comes a point, though, and I don't know if this has happened to you, or me 'cause I might be imagining it....that other overweight folks start to feel awkward around you. I know I have felt this way before around others who lost a lot of weight...as if there's this huge "when are you gonna lose it, Mike" hanging in the air. This time around it's me getting the kudos while some people I truly love must feel awful. I figure it's just not their time yet.
Cheers!
I fortunately (or unfortunately) never had the problem of other overweight people feeling uncomfortable around me because all my friends are freakin super models!!! I hate them sometimes. ![]()

Same here, so awkward.
No one noticed until I lost 35lbs haha. But thats cause I went away to college, so my new friends didn't get a mental image of me at any particular weight before it all dropped off. When I went home my parents were flabberghasted.

So you can log your weight -- which allows you to do the following:
- Plot your weight curve
- Analyze the trend of your weight (see under Recent in the figure above)
- Determine the projected target date (see under Overall in the figure above)
