How much did you lose before people started noticing?

Quote  |  Reply

I've lost 10 lbs already and no one has said a thing.  I think it's a noticable difference, but have gotten no remarks or anything.  Maybe people are just afraid to say because it's a delicate subject??

How long before people started noticing for you?

About 20lbs.

for me, people definitely noticed at 20. but some people will never notice, and some who do will never comment. if you're doing it for the compliments, best to find a new motivation.

Some people probably notice, the people you see the most anyways. They may not say anything because they don't want to make you feel awkward or offend you. I know a lot of people like that.

People started noticing around 10 lbs. for me, but that was because my face slimmed down first, so they didn't even look at my body, they just saw how much thinner my face seemed. Now that I've lost 20 lbs, I came home for Christmas break and my entire family has been commenting about it... so I'd say 20 lbs. is when people notice enough to comment on it!

Mine wasn't really until around 27 pounds, and that was probably because I didn't tell anyone one anything about trying to better my health thorough weight-loss and upped exericise.  Don't get discouraged, I am sure there is a difference to be seen, but maybe since you are so cute, people feel funny commenting, like they don't want to say that you weren't already attractive before?

I don't remember how much I had lost when someone first noticed, but I remember reading somewhere that usually people start to take notice around 10% of your weight having been lost (so if you started at 150lbs on an ave body frame/size they would notice at about 15 lbs)

That being said, people who see pictures of me from a while ago and compare them to now are commenting a lot. They say things like, "I forgot how round your face was" or "Wow! You really have changed!"

Even my hubby commented on it the other day. He told me that he had been looking through some old pics on his computer (like from 2 years ago) and was amazed at how different I look now. Apparently the transition has been so slow that people just haven't really noticed the day to day differences.

it can be discouraging to not hear lots of "wow" and "good job", but like someone above said, if you are going to use that as your motivation you might be setting yourself up for disappointment.

Keep up the good work!

Everyone likes compliments, don't for one second tell me you don't, haha.

I'm just doing it because I don't want to be chubby anymore.  I've never been overweight, but I definately could stand to lose a few pounds. I've lost 10, I'm only planning on losing 5-10 more max, even though it's not much, it will definatly be noticable to me!!

oh no, i like 'em as much as anyone.  when i was home for christmas i made a point of seeing one person just because i knew she'd notice.

the point is, lots of people won't.  and some of those who do are so awkward about it that you wish they wouldn't.

compliments are great and all, but what really makes me feel good is slipping into my size 8 jeans ;)

People who see you often probably won't notice with 10 pounds.  People started noticing my weight loss around 15 pounds I think, but that was mostly people who I hadn't seen in a while.

Some people don't notice straight away because your weight isn't what defines you as being you in their eyes. If you're not very overweight to start with, they might not have even noticed that you were carrying a few extra pounds.

It also depends how frequently you see people. Someone you last saw before losing the 10lb might notice where someone you've seen every day might not because you're not that different to the last time they looked.

People have finally started noticing a difference in me lately. It didn't really start happening until I had reached about 90 lbs. down. I didn't feel as huge as I was, but I can certainly see it now. It really is a nice feeling when people bring it up, though I hate being the center of attention. I still have a long way to go until I reach my ideal weight, but having people notice really helps keep me motivated.

I've lost about 20 but no one really has noticed, or if they have noticed they haven't said anything about it. My dad is the only one who has told me I look thinner - but he knew about my weight-loss plan. Also, my bf has noticed small changes in certain places e.g. my stomach, my neck, boobs, arms etc but of course he knew about me trying to lose weight right from the start. I don't really mind that my friends haven't commented about it. It would be nice just as confirmation that there really is a difference but I think I would prefer that the changes were slow anyways so people will think I was this slim all along haha. The main thing is that I see the changes, however subtle they are.

I had to lose about 20 lbs, but I kept noticing people "looking" at me and you could see the wheels turning in their heads.  When I mentioned weight loss to someone, all of a sudden 3 or 4 people said that they had noticed.  It was kind of a let down, but I think you're right.  It's probably uncomfortable (just incase you've been ill or something).  They'll notice it one day and you'll knock their socks off!

i lost 15lbs when people noticed

I think a lot of the time people notice but just don't say anything.  I've lost just over 25 pounds in the last six months but nobody had really said anything other than our dept. secretary (who knew I had started walking and biking more so probably figured I wouldn't mind comments).  Then I was at a Christmas party the other night and we were talking about the Wii and Wii Fit and someone else commented that I'd lost a lot of weight this year - which led to a brief discussion of what I was doing.  So, apparently, it's obvious.  (I certainly think so!)  It's just not something we talk about.

The irony is that, several years ago, I had a bunch of people comment that I looked like I'd lost weight - and I hadn't been doing anything at all that time.  In fact, I didn't even know what I weighed so couldn't respond other than to just say "thanks; the new job is less stressful, so maybe that's it".

I heard that too and I think that makes sense. The last time I lost a significant amount of weight (20 pounds) I started around the 168 mark and people (including myself) started noticing around the 15-18 pounds. I mean, sure, some people noticed earlier, but not all.

Around 25lbs, when I went from 200 to 175lbs

I actually did start at 150 lbs exactly. I'm down to 140 now. I really hope someone notices by the time I'm 135, thats just 5 more lbs.

I was anorexic and my parents didn't notice. It just depends on how often you see them and how noticable the loss i

Id like to know when people start noticing to.

I lost about 20lbs (125 to 105) and noone has even really noticed!!

Ugh, its kind of frustrating really.
