Lose vs Loose...etc..
I know type-o's happen to everyone, including me. But, there is a difference between accidentally typing a word wrong and intentionally typing a word wrong over and over and over...
I cannot understand why soooooo many people think that the word "lose", as in "to lose weight" is spelled l-o-o-s-e!!! There is only one "o". Otherwise the word becomes "loose" as in "loose change"..
This is not happening once in a while... It is in many, many posts, and it drives me crazy!!
Anyone else??
Before you freak out, I know this seems petty...

Wow. We need to tally how many threads there are on this topic.
dnrothx, I was thinking the exact same thing!
dnrothx, I know, I know!!!
But I just can't help it.
Anyway, if it has come up so often in the posts than why don't all of the people that are still spelling it wrong have it right by now?? Hmmm?
Also, the words "sell" and "sale" being used interchangeably... (i.e. "i have seen that item for "sell" in the store.. or.. I think I will "sale" my car and buy a new one.)
I could go on and on....
this is the 25th
(i've been tagging them for quite a while now)

Aww nomo. You beat me to it. I was gonna post the links to all 25-ish of them on here, too.
*has a sad*
There must be a Full Moon tonight. The lose v. loose thread always comes up on a Full Moon.
maybe a moderator should tag it and keep it there forever for all the new members, it will be a public service.
there is either a new moon or a full moon tonight
i don't know which the empty circle on my calendar denote
Maybe we should just vote the people off who spell it wrong. We can kick them off the island!
Ha ha. On the Internet in a world where people talk like this
"g2g"
"bbl"
"wuz dis wat u mean?"
"u r so dum"
Lmao..what do you expect? Since this isn't a letter of recommendation or what ever and just an on line forum people tend not to care so much about how they type or present their words. :P

But the problem as I see it, is that people get so used to saying things the wrong way that when it comes time to be formal, they often forget how to do it right. At my office, I can't tell you how many times we've decided to not go with a service of some sort because of this very lack of attention to detail. The particular example cited in this thread talks about that very thing-- people misuse the word "loose" so much that it's hard to tell if they actually know the right version. Also, who knows who might eventually be reading your posts at some future date? Now this is my personal opinion and I fully expect a lashback, but I think when folks don't even give a minimal effort to grammar and spelling (now I'm not talking about the occasional typo), it appears as though they lack intelligence-- whether or not that is actually true.
Finally, so what if this is a repeat thread? It's obviously an issue that bothers a lot of people. If you're not interested in this topic, then why post?
Hehe, this bugs me too, just not enough to post a rant...but do take into consideration that not only is this a dead horse of a topic, BUT a lot of CC users do not speak english as a first language and/or have access to the education that you did.
IF YOU CAN WRITE CORRECTLY, PLEASE DO SO. If not, that sucks for me and the 25 other threads about this....lol.
Edit: I've never noticed other threads about this topic, but I take faith that there are 25.

It's a full moon tonight. A dark circle is a new moon.
You know what you get when you feed Moon don't you. Yep that's right, you get a full Moon.

I can usually tell if it's an English as a second language deal. That bothers me a lot less than when native speakers mess up. I went to a public school-- most everyone in the US has access to that same level of education. College is a different matter of course-- but I'm not talking rocket science here.

I'm gonna,
Sail, sail away,
Sail, sail away,
Sail, sail away from here.
That drives me crazy! (I know, short trip...) While I tend to fragment sentences when posting online, I at least take the time to spell things properly! Seriously, the little posting box on this website even has spellcheck! I occasionally do not know how to spell a word, but in that case I use spellcheck or look it up. I guess people no longer care how they write. Even I make a type-o once in a while, but I agree that the consistent use of a grossly misused or misspelled word is annoying and appears unintelligent, whether that person is or not. This applies to those who speak foreign languages as well. Spellcheck is your friend!(It is not 100% accurate but it is an improvement over some of the word-garbage I have seen posted here.)
