Lose 5 pounds in a week

Ok, it's not what you think...not a crazy person..not starving myself...the thing is, last week (Halloween and all) I went NUTS...ate candy, cookies, sweets all day long and literally gained 5 pounds.  I am 5'7" and extremely small framed and weigh about 121.  Now I am at a solid 126 and want to lose it in a week because I am going to Flordia- I almost feel like the weight gained is not "real" weight and should be able to melt off pretty quickly.  I am eating right and doing the stairmaster every day for 45 minutes with situps and 10 lame push ups...Does anyone know if that is possible?  5 pounds makes the HUGEST difference on my small framed body.  Do you think it is possible for that weight to come off?  Any advice to really boost up the metabolism and drop that weight would be helpful.  Thanks.

With SouthBeach phase 1, it not only is possible, but probable, but be prepared to give up most of your carbs!  Being a bread/pasta fanatic, it is the hardest phase to deal with for me.  I lost 6 pounds last week, which was my first week of phase 1 SouthBeach.  Go for it!  But no sugars!!!!
It will probably come back off really quickly ... it is likely some (or even most) of it is water retention ... just get yourself back on track, watch your sodium intake and keep yourself hydrated to deter any further water retention ... you should be fine.

Thanks- I already feel better in 2 days of getting back on track I just really need those 5 pounds off and then hopefully once in Florida with running and warm weather, another pound or so will shed off...I hope.
monitor your sodium.

I think I am going to try and do minimal to no carbs as well- I do think that really works.
You didn't gain 5lb of fat unless you ate like 24500 extra calories, it could be from lots of things and I bet no one will even notice.

You'd be surprised how much candy (full of fat) I ate last week- full size candy bars (multiple) it is real fat on me I believe and I am bottom heavy so it makes a huge difference the 5 or 6 pounds I want to shed...
I almost feel like the weight gained is not "real" weight and should be able to melt off pretty quickly

I find when i over eat and go up a few pounds from my usual 140 i can drop those pounds in a few days, like my body wants to go back to being its nromal weight (loosing beyond that im finding really tough). You may also be right that its not 'real weight' if youve eaten loads sugar and salt etc you may just be holding water and waste. Im sure that a few days of healthy eating with plenty fruit, veg and water will move a few of the extra lbs.

Though ive got to say surely 126lbs cant be that huge? im 5'7 140lbs (137.8 today) and aiming for 125. But i guess a few pounds over your normal always makes you feel bloated. Would love you to post a picture so i can see someone of 5'7 at my goal weight. Good luck and have a great holiday

I know everybody gets annoyed with me for constantly quoting the CC+ Library, Q&A section, but it's awesome.

How did I gain 4 pounds in one day?

Temporary weight gain is most likely a result of water retention, which can be caused by eating too much sodium. Water is heavy: a gallon weighs 8.34 pounds. In the body, sodium is found in the tissues outside of the blood vessels. If sodium becomes too concentrated, water rushes in to lower the concentration. The result is puffiness, often seen in the fingers and ankles as gravity pushes water to the ground. To eliminate excess sodium and water, reduce dietary salt intake and drink plain water to flush out the system. In women, the hormones of the menstrual cycle can also cause sodium retention. Certain medications can cause water retention as well.

You should probably just detox your body. Eat 3 cups of fruit in the a.m. (a medium sized apple is equal to a cup), but stir clear of lots of bananas. For lunch and dinner eat as much of a salad as you want - salad being just lettuce. That will take about 5 pounds off in a week, but it will be all water weight. From there you can slowly start integrating other foods, like lean chicken and veggies into your diet.

I just wanted to add if you are going to detox your body there are a couple things you need to stay clear of:

• Breads
• Alcohol
• Carbonated drinks (including diet)
• All fried foods

Also, a detox consist of going vegetarian for nine days, flushing out your systems of all of its toxins. No butter, no adding salt, just steamed/raw/grilled/broiled vegetables. Make sure you eat 6 meals a day (small portions are the best, that is metabolism 101). You can consume an unlimited amount of veggies. You will lose about 6-8 lbs of water weight and all that junk you put in your body. Also, no alcohol or smoking either.
